Default Unbeliveable!

So my sister has a 95 mustang v6, and i have a 00 alero. My sister is 19 and works and has her apartment with her boyfriend about and hour and a half away. So about 3 weeks ago she got in a fender bender and we got it fixed. New bumper and new paint job on the bumper. 991$$$$.. Not too bad..So it sat in the drive way until today. She took it back down to where she lives to go to work and then come back ina few days. She got half way there and called me and said my hood fell off. You all know MOST girls dont know nething about cars. We went down there and saw it.. It was unbelivable.. The hood is just firewall no fiberglass no paint no nothing just firewall. She took my car back to her apartment and we took hers to the shop.. At the shop everone was huddled around it saying that they never seen anything like this and that its crazy.. What happened is there was a gap between the firewall and the fiberglass. Air got in there and the fiberglass flew off. So they quoted us 850$ for a new hood with paint and install. So i jumped in, WAIT WAIT WAIT, i cant jump bc i messed up my knee and im on crutches..So i crutch up and tell them that i can find one for cheeper..Maybe a carbon fiber. They say they will store it for a lil and we will get back to them. The car is white and i tell my parents i could get a CF hood for like 400 they agree until they find out that a CF hood is black..lol..So im trying to convince them to get one bc im gonna give my mom my alero, shes gonna sell her car, and im gonna take the stang bc i kno the guy off of rides from manteno,IL and hes gonna give me a cobra engine and a new manual tranny. The car worth **** right now so my dad wont spend much on it bc just this year we spent over 8000 on our cars alone, not to mention my knee surgery. So i found some CF hoods on AAS.COM... Just wondering your guys, and girls, opinions and wonders of the world..

thanks in advance for your help... Matt

On Carbon Fiber you get what you pay for.

So, if my translation is correct (and its probably not because I haven't spoken punkass since I was 15)

your sister got in an accident
the car got fixed
then the hood flew off.

what do you mean by an air gap between the fiberglass and the firewall? You mean the fiberglass hood? Was the hood latched at the front or pinned, or nothing?

Was the hood replaced by them after the fender bender? If so, they should be paying for a new hood if it just "flew off"

My sister has a 1995 Mustang v6, and I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. My sister is 19 and works full time. She has an apartment with her boyfriend that is approximately an hour and a half away from my parents house. About 3 weeks ago she got in a fender bender and my family got the car fixed. It required a new bumper, which we had to get painted. It cost my parents $991, which is not too bad.

The car sat in the drive way until today, when she decided to take it back down to where she lives so that she could go to work. She planned to return to my parents house in a few days. She got half-way to her apartment and called me because of a problem with the car. She told me that the hood fell off while she was driving. You all know MOST girls dont know anything about cars. My parents and I went down to see it, and it was unbelivable. The hood broke off, only the mounting points to the firewall are left. No fiberglass, no paint, absolutely nothing. Just the firewall. She took my Alero back to her apartment and we took her Mustang to the shop.

At the shop everyone was huddled around the car saying that they had never seen anything like this before. Apparently, there was a gap between the firewall and the hood. Air got in there, which created lift on the hood and the fiberglass hood weakened from the flexing, cracked, and flew off. They quoted us $850 for a new hood, painted and installed. I interjected in a physical manner but alas, I could not, for I had injured my knee, and I am currently on crutches. I gimp my way up and state to my parents that I can find one for cheaper, perhaps even one made of carbon fiber. The shop says that they will store the car for a while and we can get back to them. The car is white and I told my parents that I could get a CF hood for approximately $400. They find this transaction acceptable until they find out that a CF hood is black.

Now, I am trying to convince them to get one despite their complaint. My reasoning for this is that I am going to give give my mom the Alero, she is going to sell her car, and I am going to take the Mustang. I know the guy off of Rides from Manteno,IL. He is going to give me a Cobra engine and a new manual transmission. The car is worth nothing right now so my dad doesnt want to spend too much on it because this year we spent over $8000 on our cars alone. The bill for my knee surgery is not worth mentioning.

I found some CF hoods on AAS.COM. I was wondering what the opinons of the geniuses on Mustang Boards is as to this matter. I know I am inferior to you all. Not only in my gramatical skills, but also in the use of a computer keyboard to convey thoughts coherently.

Thanks in advance for your help. Matt

Sounds to me like the shop that installed the hood screwed up in the install.

It is a fiberglass hood, and if im not mistaken you need to change the hood catch in the front if you upgrade to another SN-95 hood, because most hoods are made around the new latch system on those cars. Either that or hood pins.

Edited.... for political correctness. Slappy left out a few important details.
