What would you do.....

I currently have a GT conv. S/C making 360hp and 377tq. I currently have the option of a 2003 Cobra. For a very good price. What to do. Wife says refinance but I could possibly finance the Cobra at a smaller payment. Maybe saving an additional 150-200 a month on the car payment. What do I do

Badfish 12-07-2005 08:43 PM

sell me the blower setup for 1000 :)

FREAKING COBRA!

Think about that cobra block and then that should be enough said lol.

naw seriously though.. if you can afford it, do it. Just make sure you're not gonna get screwed by your insurance company.

Stangdude27 12-07-2005 08:52 PM

Oh insurance is very cheap for me no tickets or anything. No the blower will go with the car. I'm currently TDY in Little Rock. And found this cobra in St Louis I think I'll go and look at it drive it and see how much of a deal I can get for my car.

Lances03SVT 12-07-2005 08:53 PM

I've seen alot of Cobras on autotrader in the Little Rock area.Long drive to STL.

BrentK 12-07-2005 08:56 PM

Get the cobra :D ..It is going to be about 1000 more a year in insurance though but its worth it

Will you be trading in your car? You know there not going to give you **** for it , even with the mods. Most people that buy a used car see that stuff and think one thing. Its been ragged on. You will be better off selling it out right to someone who would pay good money to have it.

whitethunder46 12-07-2005 09:40 PM

If you said the Cobra was gonna be less, than don't even think twice, get it asap. Out of curiosity how many miles you got on the GT and how many are on the Cobra? what year is the cobra?

Stangdude27 12-07-2005 10:12 PM

03 gt with 35000 and the 03 cobra has 27k. I have found that here in Little Rock they will give me 18k for my gt. I'll see what happens tomorrow.

madmatt 12-08-2005 05:01 AM

Psh, no question. Get rid of your car, BUT get the blower off of it. That is an extra 2500 bucks, do NOT sell it on the car. If you do that, you must figure in the cost of all the stuff you added into what you are already losing in the deal.

blackstallion25 12-08-2005 06:43 AM

cobra for sure, it says it makes 390 but in reality it makes 425 HORSEPOWER!!!!!!!!!

buy the cobra,

Stangdude27 12-08-2005 10:19 PM

Here is a stupid question somebody might be able to answer for me. How long is interest paid on a car note with fixed APR. I think I might be getting screwed on payments or Ford is way ****ing behind on updating my payments. I've paid on my car over 1.5 yrs doesn't interest normally stop after the first year of payments. I've been ahead of payment's since I originally bought the GT. I checked the pay off of my car and it doesn't seem right. Anyway without discussing financials with yall Isn't the 1st year of payments paid towards the interest then after that the full monthly payment goes directly towards the principal?

csledd 12-08-2005 10:21 PM

I thought it was you paid the interest until they've collected all of it or whatever, I don't know though I'm new to the game :(

Stangdude27 12-08-2005 10:51 PM

After looking around for answers I'll just wing it and try to get the cobra. Looks like payments might actually be higher now but it's a Cobra.

MattJ 12-08-2005 10:56 PM

Take your blower setup off and sell it. the dealership will claim they are giving you a good deal for it but you will get shafted. If you trade it in, take it off. If you sell privately, keep it on and advertise. You can add to KBB price with blower.

stanger00 12-09-2005 04:22 AM

yourt gonna be gone a lot with this new job your trainning for. you already know your going to be going down range a lot so you will be making more money. buy a beater and put a for sale sign on or do the trade in if your gonna get 18k. then your gonna be in a cobra. soon after that you will have a 2.2 on top and then you wont know what to do but go for some nitrous.

TClark22 12-09-2005 09:19 AM

actually the interest does not stop after the first year...you keep paying a little interest everypayment...we just did this in class at school and its really gay how much you pay interest and how much actually goes towards your principal...

GET THAT COBRA

4.6 Love 12-09-2005 09:35 AM

I'd go with the cobra is you have the cash for it.

stangspeed 12-09-2005 06:22 PM

It takes 2 years before you actually start taking a chunk off the principle. So if you got a 4-5 year note, the first 2 of that is interest. Sucks..I sold my Z71 because I got tired of making 2 payements, 2 insurances. But they are right..take the blower off and sell it..I had a 6" procomp lift 35" mickey thompsons, and about 3 grand in stereo..they were gonna give me bluebook. nothing more for the extra **** I had on there...Then they will turn around and make a butt load more profit off your ass...screw them..dont give them easy money. make them earn that sale.

Not to be off subject, but... your only making 360 at 13 psi???? That just seems really low for 13psi, I would go for the cobra, that thing should be makin that or more bone stock.

Om my, you are scaring me! Dude, interest goes the ENTIRE length of any loan. When you get a loan on a car, say for 5 years, during the first year, you don't hardly knock-down any of the principal at all. This is why you need to keep a car for at least 3 years on a 5 year loan before selling or trading.

Wait until you buy a house. As an example, if you get a lousy 100k loan on a 30 year mortage, in the first year prolly $50 goes to principal and $600 goes to interest on your payments.

So, on your car loan, sure the first year is basically all interest, but so is the last year too, it just is that with each payment,m a little less goes towars interest.

Nope, Ford is not screwing you, it's called paying the man! This is why it is impossible to ever get ahead in life buorrowing money for everything.

Now, on to your question:

Blown GT Vert VS Cobra

The Cobra is the better car! PERIOD. BUT, this is prolly a very poor financial decision. Why, because you won't get zhit for your trade no matter what the salesmen is telling you now. The only one making money on this deal is the dealer.

The other big warning to me is you are payment shopping. Anyone who payment shops, always loose sight of the forest in the trees. Hell, I could get you in a brand-new Vette with lower payments then your GT, if you want to pay on it long enough. Do yourself a favor and break this habit of looking at payments. If you don't, it will be hard to ever have anything in life. Look at the big picture, not at the monthly payment.

I am glad someone finally picked-up on that. Something is not right. Sounds mor elike 8 psi to me. Besides, you can't run 13 psi on a stock motor as far as I know.

04DarkShadowGT 12-10-2005 07:24 AM

Your payment on a Cobra may be the same but how many more years are you going to have to pay. You have paid 18 payments on your GT out of 60 or so. Do you really want to start over with 60 more.

The only benefit of the cobra is it should hold its value a little better, but not enough to offset the $$ you have spent on your gt and the depreciation of your gt.

Keeping your car is better financially but its your $$ do whatever you want.

were also not in the boost 24/7. i didnt get a chance to ride in his car before his boost gauge got jacked up im sure it hits 13 psi at redline or 6k. the problem with 01-04 is that those years have higher compression then the 99-00 years. which means they cant run as much timing. that is what i was told by the guy that tuned my car.

That is a true statement, but most guys get that much hp running 8 psi. What kit does he have for his car? I am doubtful of the boost gauge.

madmatt 12-10-2005 08:27 AM

BTW the compression ratio between a 99-00 car is not that much different than the 01-04, I think its like .2 points.

Stangdude27 12-10-2005 10:51 AM

look at the sig. The car makes the boost minus the HP. I'm still pissed about the low HP but then again the fuel was maxed and more timing could be put in but the tuners will not let you over do it. On a stock block. Besides I'm probably like 425 at the fly so the power is their and I'm not really going to change a thing till I get a new motor. I will be at MPH on the 13th to get the car retuned by Tim. Since my tune I've added a X-pipe and BAP so I think I might have picked up some power.

I will have a cobra after the car is paid off. I just hope I can find one with low miles and looks good in 2 yrs.
