FIRST OF ALL WHY WOULD YOU THINK MACO? Probably close to 2K doing it right, sanding, priming, etc.

autotrader.com is your friend......

I looked at your zip and within 75 miles of you there are at least 3 black GT's that were '99-'01 that didnt look bad at all and were real close to your budget.

Your not looking hard enough.

Or we could lie to you and tell you MAACO does a hell of a show quality paint job for $400.00...........

To properly paint a car like ours it will cost between $2500 and $4000. This depends on how much disassembly you plan on letting them do.

If you go to Macco for a paint job you will regret it for the rest of the time you own your car. Their work is beyond sub-par in nature.

Remember, you always get what you pay for. Pay for half-a$$ed paint job, get a half-a$$ed paint job.

yea you should wait, then you'll have that 1.2k to spend on mods instead of paint

idc if its hard to keep clean, ill keep it clean or try to, and the 1.2K wont be used on paint, itll go straight to mods IF i get the GT in a month(exhaust and what else?)...ive always loved the look of a black mustang... my dad saiud instead of getting me a mustang for Graduation, he'd prefer to get it like this month or next...which im fine with...

i hate dealerships thats just me but if u have to buy threw a dealership then find a gt with the lowest miles you can because dealerships are known to add on allot of money if the car is modified at all

Just be patient... heres my story hopefully will help u keep searching.
I fond a 2001 GT. It was oxford white with only 36miles on it. Auto tranny, mach 460, dark grey leather.
Modded to it already was a flowmaster exhaust.
Visually it had a FULL saleen kit, decals and side scoops, grill delete, autometer cluster gauges, dual a-pod pillar with tran tremp and air/fuel.
All this for $11,500. keep searching

I would never paint a perfectly good car even if I did not like the color. BUT, if the car had bad paint, or had some body damage, that is another story.

If I bought a car on the cheap due to it's condition and I wanted to keep the cost of painting cheap, I would find a small, mom and pop paint shop that would allow me to do all the prep my self. This way, I would do any body work make the car paint ready. I would have them inspect my work first, then spray primer, two coats of color and three coats of clear. I would have them wet-sand between clear coats. This would give you a very good paint job assuming they had a nice booth and you spent money on decent paint.

The primer, clear, and paint should run about $500 - $700 just for the materials if you get decent stuff. Price also depends on color. Red cost more then black.

Your labor is pretty extensive as you will also want to remove all the moldings and some body panels. Keep in mind that if you are changing colors, to do it right, you will also need to pull the motor to do the engine bay.

A expert paint job for a complete car could easily be $8,000 - $10,000.

MACO paint specials have their place...and this may be an option for you. But I would never put MACO paint over a good paint job. These paint jobs are what you do when you have a $1500 car that you wnt to freshen up and drive for a few more years.

I would say that price is very much in the ball park! I have a friend that bought an '03 GT Vert with 6k on it for 23k.
