Default Cobra Performance

All right boys and girls im looking for a good power upgrade for my 97' cobra. I already have the basics: an exhaust, intake, gears, pullies. Is there anything else i can get to give me a little more "umph." Looking to spend like $500 possibly more if theres something really good for a little more. Let me know.

Clean off your IMRC's that will give you a small boost there.

At this point you are looking at forced induction or cams/heads/etc...

Have you gotten a tune? That will net you a bit more as well.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. That's why I feel like nitrous is like cheating bc you gotta refill it. Like a turbo boost cheat in a racing game or something.

Cobras dont have separate plenums, only TB.

The plenum is attached to the intake.

Alright thanks a lot guys. Ive desided to go with a bbk throttle body and bbk CAI. im gunna wait on the tuning because i got one a few years ago but im sure it needs another one. (that will be the next project, when i have more bucks in my pocket). thanks for the advice

Throttle bodies are a waste no matter how much HP you're making. The intake manifold is far more restrictive then the throttle body will ever be.

Do NOT get a BBK CAI either. If you must get something like a Ceramic coated WMS Racing High velocity intake kit (upper and lower tube) or JLT True Cold Air kit. Do not get MAF either, you'll take care of that with an SCT big air meter or a LMAF down the road.

At this point I would suggest longtubes, Short runner intake, Cams (this isn't very bang for the buck on a N/A with B Heads), or upgrade to C style heads which will require everything listed (headers, intake manifold, CAI, tune, and cams while your at it.)

Don't get a tune until you get a few more bolt ons at least. You'll see a difference even on a stock Cobra with a tune...but as soon as you make another modification your tune is obsolete.

Give it a tuneup too...plugs, wires, fuel filter, and cleaned IMRC's as suggested. That'll help some too.

You feel a difference with your WMS setup? and if i can get the BBK CAI really cheap is it worth spending the extra cash on the WMS?

it's very hard to judge a bolt on modification by the SOTP meter. I'm sure the Intake made an appreciable difference, and this could be evident on a dyno. WMS and JLT advertise between 10-15rwhp for their complete intake on a 96-98 Cobra.

I can guarantee you the BBK intake will do nothing but Heat Soak, no one runs these intakes because they do not make any power...they are simply for show.

Good luck with your decision.

How much is the WMS (upper and lower intake) setup compared to the JLT?
