Default F**Cked up thing happened at Restuarant!

well. Me, My Fiance, My daughter (4 years old), And my little cousin (9 years old) went to a restuarant last night. My daughter asked if we could sit in a booth cause she likes the seats better. I said OK.

When we were about to be seated we asked for a BOOTH, the lady that was seating us said that there are no booths available and proceeded to seat us at the TABLE for 4. I then told the lady seating us that I see 4 empty booths. And WOuld like to sit at 1 of them. She then said that they were unavailable, and said sorry. I then said aight then. Well after about 2 minutes. I see a party of 3 enter the restuarant. They were then seated at a BOOTH! My temper went from medium to full throttle. The lady that seated us passed by us and i then told her that we want to sit at a booth. and that you cant say no cause i just saw u seat people in a booth. She then said I'LL be right back. She then seated us at a booth. But I gave her a peice of my mind. and told her thats fukked up.

Now I dont know why we couldnt sit in a booth on the first request. But once I saw people being seated in booths I got pissed.

Yeah, that fawking BS man. That has happened to me and my friends once. It was 4 of us we went into this restaurant called bone daddy's (similar to hooters but better) and aske the hostess if we could sit in a booth and she proceeded to tell us that there were none available when there was clearly 3 free booths around. I told her, why can't we sit in those over there that are not occupied. and she told me, i'm sorry but there are none availbable. ...I was like wtf?? so i decided to let it slide. The waitress comes along and asked us what we wanted to drink and i told her, can you give me a reason why we can't go and sit in a booth, and she's like...i dunno, and i was like..well the hostess said there were none available. so she proceeds to tell me, wait a sec and i'll see whats the problem, after she left, we decided to sit ourselves in a booth and knew damn well they weren't gonna asks us to move! ......i told the manager and he said that he was sorry, blah,blah,blah...

OK, I'm a server, and here is probably EXACTLY what happened...

servers go on a rotation. Hostesses make an attempt to give every server an equal amount of tables to be fair. Many times, if one table stays longer than expected in one section(GD i hate campers), and then another table leaves quicker than expected in different section, yes the booth is empty, but they want to be fair to all servers. PLUS, not to mention, if its a 4 table section, one of those tables was likely part of another "4-table section" and if the server already had 3 taken tables, they might have been weeded(our term of busy-as-crap) and seating YOU at THAT booth would have given you bad service. The restaurant will NEVER not seat u somewhere just because. It is always either, something wrong with the table, sever is too busy to give good service, or something. I hate when ppl bitch about getting seated soon and when theyre rushed to the booth, they complain about bad service. I mean, if I'm super busy with 3 tables, and you sit in my section, for a good 5-10 min(while I'm recovering), you will NOT get very good service, and it's not my fault.

You really need to work in a sit in restaurant to understand. I was a busser for a high class restaurant in Lynchburg, VA called Crown Sterling and it's all about reservations and making sure one waiter doesn't walk away with $500 and the others only get like $50.

I'm now the dishwaser for this place and I do back cook every now and then. I got off the floor with customers because of people who bitch about **** like that. No one really understands the whole restaurant business unless you have worked at one. Now when I go to a restaurant I do everything I would want done to me. I take all the plates and stack them up and put all the trash on the top one like I would if I was bussing a table so it makes the it easier for the waiter and plus it gets you better service. Ever hear the phrase, "Treat others the way you would want to be treated."?

This is a joke, if server A is busy and server B is not. But Customer C wants to sit in server A's booth. Have server B cover that booth for an hour until those people are gone. Wow that was tough.

Bottom line the customer is always right, if they want a booth and there is clearly one available GIVE IT TO THEM.

You accomodate the customer not the other way around.

Oh and you being busy or "recovering" is not a good excuse for poor service. I dont expect much, fill my drink, bring my food, take food away and bring the check. In alot of cases the server doesnt even bring the food out.

you clearly have never worked in the restaurant business. When u got one table that just sat down, and the restaurant policy is a visit within 30 sec. Then another table who took their sweet tie to order(seriosuly, some people take FOREVER to order, so u gotta get their appetizers b4 u put the food order in. Then your 3rd table needs refills. And then the 4th table wants their check and everytime u pass without it, they give you dirty looks. THAT is a typcial shift. So yes, that 4th table makes ALL the difference of service. Don't act like you know how it is to be a server.

my g/f used to be a waitress and she says the same thing. it pisses me off because that's your job. you get paid by me to take my plates away . i shouldnt have to. if i feel like doing it then fine, makes your day easier but i dont have to do anything but pay.

This turned out to be an interesting post. You learn something new everyday. I have walked out restaurants numerous times for being slow to take my order because of where i chose to sit.

yeah, many people(especially old people) who say 'we dont want that booth' after a host tries to put them somewhere, end up complaining about bad service bc the place they chose to sit in was a server's who was very busy. And many restaurants dont like having servers pick up tables in other sections mainly bc then the other server wants one in the others' section and they gotta remember who gets what table and it really throws off everyone's timing.

I understand that restuarants needs to fairly even out the tables to each servers. But when my daughter asks ME if we can sit in a booth. I could care less how the hostess tries to equal out the tables for each server. Its about good customer service. Next timme imma slap ah bitch if she say no.
If I see a damn booth open and they dont want us to sit there. yes, there will be problems. Oh and for a tip I left a nice pool of ketchup on the table. suakkahz

dude...you've got issues. You would do yourself a WORLD of good to be a server for a few months and see what we go through. If you seriously left no tip for the SERVER, because YOU had a hissy fit, that is pathetic

I always tip 20% since I had friends in the field and its really tough to keep a constant smile and keep track of everything with all the customers. Only time I tip less is if they are being an *** but its not really a great job so dan hang in there till you can find something better.

yeah, I know that serving is a BIG motivator to finish college bc I cant go my entire life relying on other peoples' generosity(or lack of) to make my income. Tonight was a BIG reminder of that. I had nearly every table give 10% or under and I KNOW I gave exceptional service. I was never busy and everything went smoothly. It was HARD AS HELL to keep a smile throughout the entire night.

lol..ya man it was a joke..you know I love you danny boi.

I'm not usually an ***. But I only got upset at the restuarant cause I saw people sit in a booth RIGHT AFTER i had requested one and was denied. I just thought it was wrong. I now know that they had to even up the tables...but I still think that the request should have been granted the first time.

And I only left a pool of ketchup for a tip cause the waitress that was serving us was not so nice anywayz.

I would almost agree with this and what DannyB said except for the fact that I am the customer! In the world of customer service, if the customer makes a reasonable request, oh let's say he asks for a booth. (Don't know why I'll use this scenario) The hostess should have graciously sat him at an open booth. Since I am the one paying the bill, the customer decides where they would like to eat. I don't care if one waiter makes 1000 dollars and another makes 5.
I may want to sit in someones section so I may be served by that person.
The number one rule in customer service is: I know you all know it!! "The customer is always right!!"
He had every right to be upset. And had it been me, I would have had the managers at my table getting the *** chewing of a lifetime. Oh by the way, if you disagree with me on this, please feel free to let me know what restaraunts you work at so I can never eat there!!

I've worked in plenty of restaraunts! The object is customer service. If you need to step it up because your behind so be it. When you get to the customers table, explain why service is slow. Take responisbility!! The customer will appreciate that!! I have been serving customers for 24 years now. I would tell you the same thing as I do my employees. Own a problem and treat the customer with dignity and respect. If you give a customer slow service, explain why and apologize, own the problem and try to make it right. Don't blame anyone but yourself. If you follow these simple rules, the customer will love you and probably leave you a decent tip when all is said and done. And you probably saved the restaraunt from losing a customer.
Try this strategy some time, it will work. You will definitely work harder but it makes you better than any other server.

Thanks, I will share this experience with my folks at work. Nobody likes bad service and I like sharing these types of scenarios. It makes my employees think about how to do it better.
I look at it this way. You ask to buy 4.10 gears., You are sent gears but they are 3.73's. You still got what you asked for, gears. Would you be mad? Booth = 4.10's and table = 3.73's. You had every right to be pissed!!
Take it easy.
