In japan, there is something called JCI (Japanese Compulsionary Insurance) you have to put on the car and it lasts for 4 years. It runs about 800 bucks and the car has to be mechanically perfect for it to pass the inspection. Sometimes it is not worth the repair, so you drive it untill the JCI is up and drive it off the Hachinohe pier. That lowers the value of the car right there, its cheaper to buy another car that still has 5-8 months of JCI left on it.
Also, While i was there at least, in Japan the rule is 1 car per family unless there were more than 2 kids, then they can have a 2nd car. So the japanese would want a new car, they couldnt buy it untill they got rid of thier other one, so they would sell em to the americans dirt cheap.
I had a buddy there who also had an RX-7. It was turbo, had roll cage, body kit, tacs, it was fully tricked out probably had 8-12k worth of work into it and easily the fastest car ive ever driven, it'd rape my buddys 04 cobra 6 ways from sunday.
He paid 2K for it out the door. 2k? Wow that is cheap! The dealer wanted 6 K for it, but nobody would buy it.
Because it was Barbie Pink. ROFL!
As for the skyline, yeah, black, fast, bad-***. However, there was a strange and mysterious order that had befunkified it before i bought it. I figured i could find out what it was and get rid of it. 5 Months i drive that damn thing with this sweet sickly funk to it, air fresheners would not help. I never did figure out what that smell was, i tore it apart time and time again. I was fixin to move back to america and nobody wanted the smelly thing, i couldnt even GIVE it away. So i drove it off the Hachinohe Pier.
Ok, long story short, "Hachinohe Pier" = easy car disposal, you just have to drain EVERYTHING out first, kinda like when they sink ships in the ocean to make artificial reefs, that is what we were doing...,. ok.. well, at least that is how we justified getting drunk and sending cars flying off a pier at high speed.

after about 5 min driving you dont even notice it, but you go to a gas station and get something to drink, come back, and it reeks again.

I almost bought a 69 Camaro one time that had a very funky smell to it.The Dealer that had it told me that an old man had owned it and had died in it in the middle of the summer and it was like 2 weeks before anyone found him. They had replaced everthing inside and still the smell remained.
Freaked me out totally.
