Mustangs really aren't to bad on gas. I have been taking it easy with mine and not using my lead foot. Riding around in town I try and ride with the windows down and AC off. It is hard living here in Florida but it helps some. If you drive to fast with your windows down to save gas it can sometimes make it worse by creating drag inside your car so that is why I only do it around town. I can usually squeeze 300 miles per tank using 87 and mine is a GT. Don't know if this helps.

Same here...when I'm strapped for cash I keep it under 4500 RPM's and below 75 on the fwy. I usually average around 280-300 a tank which is not much worse then a 4 banger.

300 miles a tank? wtf? Im lucky if i get 200.

Anyways, if you sell your car, youll probably lose a lot more than it will cost you in gas to keep it.

Im sure they meant 300 HIGHWAY miles. There's no way a Mustang gets that kinda mileage in stop and go traffic.

Im thinking (or maybe rethinking) on buying a real low mileage 03 Cobra, but if gas keeps doing this I'll just wait until they cant move them and buy it even cheaper and not drive it as much or just not buy it at all.

Im a cop here in Florida and up until yesterday we were allowed to use our cars on or off duty. Well, they just announced that if you arent at work or going to an off duty detail you are not to use your car for personal use. Supposedly we are only getting half our allotted gas load this month.

LOL yeah, I can get at most about 250 with a mix of city and interstate. I still say get the mustang, then just get a beater civic if you are that worried. I have my eyes peeled for a 500 dollar honda...

If you are really that strapped for cash that gas prices mean that much, then you should not get a Mustang. If you did, you would definitely have no money to mod it and what fun is a Mustang with no mods?

200 miles to a tank is the best i can do.. the way i look at it.. i love my car, and right now it's my only car (until i can afford to title and insure my new dd a 4banger accord..) so i have to put gas in it.. so if u love your car to the point were u can't get rid of it like me, then u have no choice, but to pay the high gas prices.. yes it does suck that gas is oober expensive, but what can ya do, other than sell the car...

I noticed a 2mpg increase around town after installing my gears. On the highway it stayed about the same.

Driving from Daytona Beach, FL. back home I could squeeze out 310 before it was too low for me to drive comfortably (might have been another Gallon in it.) So i think i averaged 24 mpg hwy , and usually around 20mpg for the City: with occasionaly spirited driving.

The gears have helped me, the car doesn't have to work as hard to get moving. The only reason gears eat up gas is because you can't keep your foot out of it.

Mustangs aren't that bad on Gas. Especially compared to their pushrod counterparts and ancestors we've got it pretty good.

i have a 390 gear in mine and i get about 21mpg on the highway, and if i keep my foot out of it i don't do too bad through town either. i say get the mustang if that's what you want, you have to buy gas either way.

Ask yourself why you would buy $100 sneakers, $70 homeless jeans from Ambercrappy and Finch. If you want to show off having a big SUV is going to be one of those luxuary items. What you have to understand is the SUV has replaced the station wagon and mini van to some extent.

If you own a stang and make fun of SUV owners...that's like being a member of PETA and wearing leather shoes.

Unless you drive a moped, you have no right to make fun of what anyone else drives when it comes to gas prices. As gas hits $5.00 a gallon, we will all feel stupid.

BTW, I own a Suburban - LOL. While big, it does about 19 on the highway. My Mustang gets 21. My MiniVan gets 1,000,000,000 miles to the gallon because it is a company car and they pay for all the gas. So, guess what? On Saturday when I have 7 kids in the car to take 40 miles to the soccer game (I am the coach and we meet and car-pool) I will be most likely driving the van.

As far as SUV's being dangerous, I would much rather be driving one of these when I am hit by a semi, then a little Toyota. Fact is, I have NEVER seen any studies that show that SUV's cause fatalities. I already buried one child, and I will do my best to ensure that my family has a safe vehicle. I can not simply worry about everyone else. While I choose to have a big car, others choose to have small ones.

I also own a large boat and live in a climate that regularly gets 100+ inches of snow and we are at 2,000 ft elevation.

Do I bitch about gas prices? You betcha. We are being raped. If the hike in prices was due to a tax for sending money to help the victims of Katrina, that would be fine. But, we are making oli companies rich instead. While it may cost me more money to drive, It pails in camparison to the money I have lost just in my 401k.

I have a Hemi Durango 14 city and 18hwy. I bought this as the 1st and last SUV . I almost conviced my wife to get a Cobra vert but with plans of having 3 kids its just not going to happen.

I see your point about your friend but this is the US and the tree huggers cant control what people buy. The prices will go up, rap stars and the population that have the money will continue to drive their trucks while the rest say damm I wish I could afford that. All thats going to happen is the posers who bought SUVs and really couldnt afford it will have to give up the act. The fact is that alot of people live beyond their means and you cant live paycheck to paycheck and expect to have everything that you see on TV.

I am a firm believer that everyone should enjoy your life as its short but as long as you meet your obligations. You might as well praise the oil companies as these will keep teenagers from crusing the streets therefore saving gas and reducing the amount of collisions . So kids stay home and let us adults drive

Actually, there will be a lot of consequences of high gas prices. One being teens won't drive as much and the other being that the roads should have less traffic. And as we all stay home more often, we will stop spending money.

in my eyes, the kids who are just given a car dont respect it, which in turn, they dont repsect driving.....but for those kids(even adults) who buy their own car, put hard work in to something they truely love to do(llike modding), they respect wat is available to them.......i respect my car.......i respect driving.......even tho i didnt pay for the whole car my self, over 3/4 of my savings from hard work went into my car.....i dont want that money go to waste now.......

not all of us teens (except for springstang for wat he did to his mothers car) are really that bad at driving.....my girlfriends mom doesnt let anyone but me or my girlfriends family drive my girlfriend......she trusts me with her first born....that in it self is a great privilage.....

im not saying that i dont joy ride...but the only joy riding i do is in my little beater 82 rx7 on dirt/gravel roads.......i could care less about that car even tho it is a special edition w/ the GXS handling package...i make sure that i dont do anything stupid where there are alot of people to get hurt.....

i baby my mustang like it is my girlfriend.....n i baby my girlfriend like no other......she and my car are so pressious to me i wouldnt want anything happening to any of them......

Not all of us are bad drivers...just the people who have it really easy in life take advantage to wat is given to them.....(wow...i couldve said that w/o typing a whole freaking english theme)

Just don't forget that there is no substitute for experience and judgement. I have been driving for 22 years and making love to my wife for 14. I would like to think that I am better at doing both now than I was when I first started.

3 kids here.... 1 teenager and 2 in car seats. I have no choice but to have a SUV, Minivan, etc.

I did keep it in the family however... 02 Eddie Bouer Explorer... Gets ~19-21mpg on the highway and ~17 in town.

I also have a beater Mazda Millenia I bought off EBaY 2.5 yrs ago. Get's 26 mpg highway and takes me and the WAF to work and back everyday. Yep.. we carpool.
