Hum, there really is no link and that is a completely bogus statement. You might as well blame the 911 attacks on GW just because he was in the office too.
What you don't realize is that with a different president prices could actually have been a lot higher...or lower. To make a claim like that you need to be specific.
Stating that prices are higher now than when he took office is clearly a true observation, but blaming the guy is a whole different story.

For those that don't know, Oil's days are numbered anyway. During our generation there will be a depletion in the worlds Oil supply, it isn't speculation, its fact. These jack-asses are just trying to salvage every last dime they can out of the situation, because they have such a firm grip on situation and significant influence on politics. The price "gouging" is very uncalled for, and there should be a price cap set on gasoline/petroleum products. These gas stations at this very moment are charging between $.50 -> $4.00 more a gallon for gas that they have already paid for at a low fixed price. They aren't covering an increase in overhead, they are just raping the population. Wish I owned a gas station today.
The hike in oil prices is not directly related to Bush, however I'm sure that he had an effect on it...whether it be keeping it lower or higher then it could've been.
Gasoline will go the way of the dinosaur (no pun intended). There are many other alternative fuels...and alternative energy sources out there. It's only a matter of time before the technology, and someone in the politcal position to get the ball rolling in these areas manifests it. Once the infrastructure is in place it'll only be a matter of time before Petroleum will be obsolete...just like the steam engine.
What's really going to suck is that the price of everything in the economy will see a slight/moderate rise following this large price hike. Every product that is manufactured and purchased requires the use of gasoline...if not to produce it (rare) but to deliver it (unavoidable.) Airplane tickets (as if they needed any other problems), Consumer products, food, milk, wood, toilet paper, lego's, Tampons...you name it...it's going to cost the manufacturer and someone's going to have to take the hit. And it's the consumer. Just the way it goes. Gas prices go up, product prices go up (might only be marginal) but people will not want to go out and spend money to drive to the mall/store/arcade/movies much less pay more for their product.
The Hurricane will however be a stimulus to the economy in the longrun. Sure there are Billions in property damage, but the federal aid will begin pouring in along with insurance money etc, and construction on a large scale will commence. This will produce jobs. Employment rate is what makes the economy. People make money, people spend money. In a year -> year and a half there will be a positive flux in GDP due to this...history has shown natural disasters, specifically hurricanes to be stimulating to the economy. It is extremely unfortunate for the families that have experienced loss of loved ones, personal belongings, and property.
Just everyone be patient, be thrifty, and give it time. Things will level out in the end it always does.

i remember on 9/11, gas jumped up 1.00 immediately in michigan. the governor froze the prices at what they were before the attack, since it was price gouging (the stations didn't pay any more for the gas) i wonder why more of that's not happening (like in ATL)

i dont blame 911 on george dubya. i do, however blame a pointless war on him, and thats part of why our gas prices are going up. during the war, one of the things they did to hurt us was burn oil fields... less oil = higher prices..

For one thing. There is no power to the main pipeline that supplies the whole east coast. WE may run out of gas before the holiday weekend is over. So of course we are gonna pay dearly for that. Clerk at the store where at get my fuel says gas will probably be over 4 bucks a gallon before this weekend. I filled my tank Tuesday night at $2.81. Weds. morning it was $3.06. I'll bet tomorrow it will be 3.25/ 3.35 a gallon. Power should be up by Friday but maybe not. Some stores are predicting NO GAS at all this weekend here in NC. And plus NC cigarette tax rose 35 cents a pack as of midnight tonight. Sucks to be me. But we got the lottery finally. Only state on the friggin east coast without one. WEEE scratch cards here I come. Case of beer, Carton of Cigs, Gas, and some scratch cards. Gonna be a fun weekend LOLL

They should hand out free tubes of KY while you fill up at the gas station.
These guys are making a fortune off of us...and half of it is the media's fault for hyping up the whole situation. If they didn't say a word about gas going up, it wouldn't happen as badly/quickly...and people wouldn't be freaking out and running to the gas station to get it before it "runs out" or skyrockets in price. The only reason these cities are out of gas is because everyone panics and fills up. If everyone went to their local grocery store and bought a bag of dorito's they'd be out of it for days too.

Jesus this thread is gonna turn into a huge political fight. Bush is doing as much as he can in my book about gas. Hell they just opened up the reserves. We are not gonna run out of gas by the end of the weekend. That is rediculus. We have a barge coming to Pensacola with 1 million gallons of gas on it because basically the panhandle is out because of all the people driving here from MISS, and AL. They said we will be getting a barge every 2.5 days instead of 5 so there will be twice as much gas. This was a quote in our paper and not just from some Joe Shmoe on the radio or some Arabian working at a gas station. And for the people that think the war is pointless and say it is Bushs' fault..well it is his fault because he is the president..any other president would have done the same thing so then it would be his fault. You gotta be out of your damn mind if you think it is safe for our country to bail out of Iraq right now. I won't say anymore because I could rant forever. There is a reason we are still there and there is a reason you don't see bombs going off in the US like you do in other countries. Enough said.

Its not safe to pull out of Iraq right now yes...
But we shouldnt have been in there in the first place (found those WMD's yet??) nor should we be expecting to settle 2 MILLENIA of conflicts between tribes just because we brought down the hand of "democracy." Expect to see that Iraqi constitution to just become grounds for a lovely civil war between Muslim factions.

The colonial gas pipeline is now open again. Gas prices here stabilized at 3.01 all day. Hell that's not much more than the 2.81 I paid on tuesday. I think they would have found another way to get .20 or .30 from us in some other taxing way. so in the long run you're just paying dues for living here. The gas will be available now and it wont hurt me financially right now to pay 3 bucks a gallon. I just won't jump on that primered honda with the fart cannon next time I see him. LOL. Maybe he will actually think he took me and tell all his friends he wooped a stang with his riced out ugly *** boom box on wheels. oops I went off topic. Anyway hopefully gas will stabilize and not hit 4 bucks here in NC
