Default Where did ford go wrong in 05 style?

I finally figured out why the 05 are ugly (most of em). My dad called and said the dealership in enid had a new red stang gt. (laser red or maroon, whatever its called) Since it was my fav color I went to look at it and was extremely disappointed.

probs with style: Hood is plain and booorrrriiiiinnnggg.
The door and quarter panel area is bulky and plain.
Most of all, the stock tires look very skinny to me even
though they are 235's.

For $27,000 I'd expect a lot more.

I do like the front.

What do you guys think?

I'm not a fan of the 05's either. If they have been lowered and some other mods done thier not too bad but I still like the 99-04's better.A dealership in Springfield,Missouri had 2 GT's on the lot and both had around 5000 miles on them and they were asking $35000 for a used GT.I just laughed and walked away.

$27k? was it the gt version? better have been. Its bulky bc thats the style. Muscle cars are supposed to look bulky. And since its retro style, they probably didnt want the fake hood scoop of the previous gen models bc it woudlnt go with the retro theme. And as for the tires....I'm clueless. GT's are NOT supposed to have 245's. thats ridiculous. I dont care if they are pirelli's....muscle car tires are supposed to be FAT.

235's the fender wells are huge. the rear glass behind driver door. fog lights in wrong place. too square needs more too the back. the concept looked alot better.

I have to disagree. The concept's front looked funny and it had fake side scoops like the 99-04. And the fog lights in the grill look badass. They stand out so that you cant mistake it for a v6. I cant see anywhere else they would look as cool.

It's to each his own as the old saying goes I guess. I am partial to the SN95 platform from 94-98 myself. The 05s are just flat out hideous to me. There are some extremely odd colors driving around too. What's up with that? I realize that the older muscle cars were bulky, but the 05s just seem to be a little over the top. I guess you could say my beef is all with the looks, as I have never driven one. It's sad when someone has to say that in order to even own a particular car, it needs all kinds of body kit work and the like just to appease them. The only ones that I halfway like are the ones in the magazines with the crazy paint schemes and bodykits. Considering the outrageous price tags as mentioned by others, to consider having to do all of that work just to look decent is not worth it. The 94-98s and the 99-04s to a certain extent were awesome on their own (once lowered and with fat tires on the back), but Ford definitely missed the head of the nail with this one. I sure as hell won't own one. I'll dump my money into my 95 v-6, 96 GTS, and 98 Cobra.

Not a fan at all!! I dont like the interior of the car nor do I like the exterior!!! The inteiror is too retro, and i know that was what ford planned but it wasnt a good idea to me! And i agree with cobra4123 that the fog lights in the gt's are in the WRONG place!! Hopefully they get better in the future!

I cant see how putting it there would look better. I understand about going back to its heritage, but it just doesnt give it the presence. See for yourself.

Its that quarter window and the fact that they dont have a decent wheel to go on the thing. The bullitt is ok, but come on. Wheels make the car.

i definitely like the fog lights down on the bottom a lot more than were they come. if i did happen to buy an 05 gt, the first thing i would do is take off those rediculous fog lights.

I agree. the older stangs w/ fog lights in the grill woudl definitely look weird. But the older stangs were more of a nice, easy appearance than the current ones which are going more for a mean, aggressive look.

eh...i'm torn. I remember when the 99-04 stangs came out. I thought they looked stupid. Now look at me...i own a 03 and i love it. Maybe the same will happen with this one. Everyone hated the 99-04's at first...but they grow on you. I say give it a year or two.

I think it depends on the color. There are only 3 i have seen close up that I would even consider buying. Stevens has a mineral grey one with bullitts and its is pretty sharp. An upholstery guy has a black one with quarter window louvers, and the guy that runs our wal mart has a silver one with black stripes and hood pins. Every other one sucks. A friend of mine has a white one with the "premium " wheels and it looks like crap. Black, silver, or m grey are the only ones I can stand

BTW the guy that has the baby blue one with the cragars on this site is a good color on one.

When I first saw the 99 mustang I though it looked tuff, and I was a chevy guy!

if the 1/4 window isn't covered it's just ugly. and the fogs need to be either like in the second pic or like the first but down in the bottom. up high like that it looks like it needs a gun rack in the back window, mudder tires and some guy with a mullet driving it...... oh yea rust above the rear tires

Whatever I wasn't crazy about with the 05 is fixed with the GT500. That car is heaven. Stop trying to compare the 05 to different year body styles and appreciate it for what it is... in todays age, it's something different.

the 05 is basically ugly as all sin never hsould have gone back to the old style they should have come out with another original style for the pony and not copy the older models the 05's are fugly bone stock u can mod them and make then look better then stock but thats all they'll ever be a modded ugly 05 and dont even get me started on the v6 especially the front bumper vomit

personally i think ford did an awesome job when they came out with the 94-98 b style and the 99-04 body style but now the 05 one should die its just impossible to make them look kool they dont have any curves like the 94-98 style and they dont have the good body style like the 99-04 to mod them with kool rims or a body kit u just cant do it

One thing is for sure....

In 5 years, when ford decides to redesign the stang again, ford will either be king of them all....

....or sink..

Ford's future relies on the design of 2010. They can't do retro again. And they can just revamp the 99-04 style. It has to be a 100% completely new, redone, fresh mustang(in terms of looks). The platform can be the same, but its look can NOT just be a freshened up version, like the 99 was for the 94-98 style. Or else it's over.

The only thing I like is the front end and how they got the gas cap back in the center again, or is that just for looks?

1 way for Ford to save themselves. remake 56 Ford Pickups with updated components, and Im not talking retro, Im talking the same truck just with new technology in it......they would not be able to make enough of them.
