I work for a shipping company. Tying up , loading and unloading ships and letting them go.

I work in south west Scotland in a small place called Cairnryan. I drive everything from huge loads like these which have to parked on the ship

to smaller things like these...

packing them in like this

That whole deckspace above will be filled totally. We pack em in like sardines on various ships. We also deal with cranes, hazardous loads and drive buses with passengers now and then so a bit of responsibility and decent driving is required. Worst I`ve seen was one guy pulling off a trailer with a $750K nose cone from a Jet and he caught the side of the ship. he didn`t last long.

What does everyone else do? Pics aren`t necessary.

My father was a truckdriver all his life and when I got out of high school in 1975, I started driving a truck. We pulled "refer" trailers out of Hershey Pa. up and down the East coast and the Midwest. He was dianosed with Cancer in early 1979 and couldn't drive anymore. I went to work for a forklift dealer as a mechanic and did that for 30 yrs. Got layed off in 2009 because of bullshit union rules and have have been doing carpenter work ever since.

Oh yeah, the father thing....he had always dreamed of having his own truck (a long nose "Pete") we were about 6 months from having enough money for the down payment and expenences to buy it and he got sick.

Thats sad man. Life deals out some shitty cards at times.

Not the same but in the last week me and the woman have split, my company is cutting salaries and my wee pet dog has gone blind. Still. **** could be worse.

Electronic engineer, tester development division. We develop cables for IBM, HP, Dell, Cisco Systems, GM, Lockeed Martin, etc. Anyone who needs to transfer a lot of data. I never thought I'd end up doing something like it, having a biology degree, and never knew so much went into making cables.

Some top professions there. Maybe I should have stuck in at school.

My salary will be getting cut shortly but in all fairness it`ll still be a good job and good place to work. I was kinda surprised at the hourly rates paid in the US for jobs but I suppose with everything being cheaper the standard of living will be more or less the same.

I work for a sister company of the New York Times here in Spartanburg, SC ( The Herald-Journal ) as there Network Administrator aka Child Care Worker

I have been in the IT field for almost 20yrs now and have seen a good bit and have been through the ups/down of layoffs and during the spins of the economy spins... I have been here for almost 2.5yrs and has to be the best job I have worked in some time! A good bit of freedom to explorer different techie things and implementations of new technology and the hardest part is trying to stay on top of it all the time.

The downfall is the pay that I used to receive yrs ago to now, just isnt the greatest but at least its a paycheck too compared to some!

And then theres being oncall every 3wks....

I had been working in commission based sales until recently but after a few layoffs in the last few years I'm out of that field. Over the years the commissions got smaller and the hours got longer so I don't miss it. I am now a service technician and enjoying a more regular schedule.

I have a meeting with a VA counselor to discuss possible educational benefits so I can go back to school and get a degree though. Wish me luck.

I currently work in retail. Been there since I was 14. Its good and bad at times, can't complain. Air conditioned at least.

Have a photography business on the side, trying to start up another at the moment.

Usually end up working a little bit at the school's daycare, since I'm going to school to be a pediatrician figured it'd look good. And I love kids in general, so it works out.

Ohhh and I work the corner........

At a local track. ****.

Was a diesel generator technician for 8 years. It was alright but I was in the military and they took the fun out of it. I just quit my job in Iraq to go back to school to finish my bachelors degree in applied science. Starting up lab work and couldn't do those classes online. Class starts in 3 weeks. I love this post 9/11 GI Bill

Good Luck, that's how I got through nursing school. There's money out there for school if you're willing to spend the time looking and writing essays.

Thanks. I have wasted enough time. I went into the Army straight out of high school with every intention of making a career of it. My lung collapsed during basic training and it took several surgeries to correct. Because it was a recurring problem they didn't give me an option to stay enlisted I came home and got caught up in sales which I've done for the last 6 years.
