my girlfriend and her family are letting me use there two car garage during the winter and or shitty days but its not heated. Im looking into getting a portable heater that will be able to heat that size but also nothing crazy. Ive been checking out home depot and sites like those but im really not familiar with how much i should be spending or what a good one is..? any body have any clue on this?

 

Wood heat!!! our garage is wood heated now, if you have the time it saves a ton of money

I think he's talking about a big cast iron stove/furnace type of thing you put wood in to burn. If I didn't want to invest a lot of money on a system, which I doubt you do since it's not your garage. I'd just get a small propane heater like you'd take camping. Just keep it close to you while your working. Not that Texas gets cold, but when I work out in the garage in the winter I wear a lot of layers, an put a blanket down on the concret floor to work on.

Just a cast iron stove, you can have those inside but they take up a decent amount of space, my dad's is outside the back of his (right outside a door) and is in an "enclosed" area. It is way cheaper than gas and if you have a way to install it it is pretty cheap starting cost too.

the only issue is getting wood, or splitting it if you dont have time... we used to use propane heaters but they never could get it to a high temp and you have to keep everything a ways away from them when you have them on high. then again, it is a 3 1/2 car garage that is 1 1/2 deep

 

your gonna want something that is 220v

anything 110 will suck power like a fire hose

 

If you get one of the propane heaters, just be sure not to stand too close. My buddy was working on his trunk drunk and lit his pantleg on fire standing too close to the heater. hilarious for us, but not him. lol
