My 70 year old Dad could really use some prayers and good thoughts sent his way, he's been having a truly bad day.

He had to go to the emergency room with kidney stones early today. He's had too many to count over the years but this is the first one in a long time. They took real good care of him and sent him home to await the test results.

He decided to go piddle around in his wood shop and caught his thumb in the table saw. He only got to the doctors office because, 'for some unknown reason" a deputy was sitting at the end of their driveway and escorted him to the doctor's office.
The x-ray just came back showing the bone is involved but they don't know how bad.

They live in the back waters of the ozark mountains in Arkansas...not exactly cutting edge medicine. And he will be 70 on July 30. Guess we'll be getting him a prosthetic thumb for this birthday. Thanks for letting me rant and for all the good thoughts and prayers in advance.

 

I thought fingers were often able to be re-attached? My english teacher cut his index finger off and they re-attached it. But youd know more than i would considering your a nurse Good luck to him, and sorry to hear about the hard times.

 

That sucks, but hope it gets better soon.

 

I've never heard of that, but if you lose a thumb, they'll usually take your big toe and use it as a thumb, since it's the most important part. I may be wrong though.

Hopefully it turns around and starts going well.

 

Hope he does ok. nothing worse than a mangled up thumb as far as hands go. Try to get him to lay off working on stuff. Just relax and take it easy.

My mom will be 80 soon and, every entrance to her home and my home is a Brick mountain to climb, so anytime she leaves the house she has to be very precise in her stepping. I worry cause my dad fell down those steps when he was fifty and like to killed him then.

But try to get your dad to lay off the power tools. But I'm guessing he's the type man who has to stay busy doing something he enjoys. Whether he can still do it or not..

Good luck with that.. They had to take my sister inlaw, fathers chain saw away from him after he almost cut his hand off with it. Sucks to get old. but we all will..

 

He's not far from me so I'll throw some thoughts out for him, mine will get there first I was driving through the Ozarks last week to go canoeing and I really would not want to be seriously injured as remote as some places seem up there in the hills. I'm lucky to live less than a mile from a hospital here in Conway. Hope your father has some good days around the corner.

 

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers, they must have worked, he's at home recovering. In the confusion he told my Mother he had gotten his thumb but it was actually his index finger on his left hand. It was mainly the tip and barely into the bone so it was not too difficult to re-attach. He is sitting in the recliner all doped up for the kidney stone and the finger mangle. He's somber but not hurting.

He is not a happy camper at all about having to stay away from the shop for a few days. That place keeps him going. It's called "Papaw's Workshop" and me makes all kinds of furniture and toys and crafts and sells them all over the state and craft fairs. His wood working shop is bigger than my first house. It really gives him purpose.

You probably drove right by their house if you went from Conway to go float the Buffalo river. They live direcly off Hwy 65 in Leslie AR. You just stop in that one horse town and ask for Tony and Helen and once you convince the you aint revenuers, they'll tell you how to get there. You just tell them you know their daughter that drives the wild *** car...you'll be covered or cursed...no guarantees

that sucks, my dad is about 70 as well so I know how that is. Luckily it doesnt sound too bad, just some bad luck.
