New Whip!
My Saturn wouldn't pass smog so it got the boot (trade in) and a newer better model put in its place.
First: No tripping on the whole Brand X thing. I don't like it any more than you do but Fucked-Over-Rebuilt-Dodge Motor Company wasn't offering 0% over 72 months. Details: It's quick. Shifter is a little vague. Handles like it's cutting grooves in the road to guide itself, VERY solid and snappy handling. Came with 18x7 and 18x8 wheels, brembo 4 pot front brakes and vented disc rear single piston setup. Clutch is touchy as fuck. Came with a pillar mounted boost/vacuum gauge that looks to be made by autometer. Runs 15psi at full tilt and makes 5psi at 1800rpm with a the throttle just barely open. Boost comes on fast as hell. Came with XM for a year and OnStar for a year free. Bluetooth, USB, accessory audio-in and plenty of steering wheel mounted controls. Oh yeah... and a sunroof. To top it all off the back seat is usable by adults and the trunk if fuckin cavernous. Overall it's a great car. All the fast I want and none of the headaches. Not going to mod it at all.. it's got every single thing done to it from the factory that I would have done. Chalk one up for chebby... they got this one pretty much right. http://media.dealerskins.com/carspec...009/4SA41U.jpg On a lesser note, the mustang will be sold sometime in the new year. |
so when does the 5.4 go in?
|
:nono: wtf? :noooo: Srsly? :hahaha: A cobalt? :kekekegay::kicknuts:
|
If I had to have a Cobalt, that'd be the one. It will hang with GT mustangs all day in the straights, and then rape them in the corners.
R3d, hows the TQ steer? bad? none? |
none at all. it's a helluva car

R3d, hows the TQ steer? bad? none? You know me, I'm a pretty level headed guy, but a 260hp FWD car "hanging with GT's in the straights" does not sound very plausible either.. I wonder how much power it actually puts to the ground.. 200 ish? IDK man, I guess it's possible, but doesn't seem very likely. |

You're on the green stuff again aren't you? FWD top heavy 4 door "raping" a Mustang in the corners. You must be on stronger stuff then ever before.

I think you need to have a toke this time. |
I hope you have better luck with your Cobalt than my best friend had with hers. She got one the first year they were out (2005, I think), it was the regular 4 cylinder. She had to take it to the dealership almost 20 times for recurring transmission and electrical problems in the less than 2 years she owned it. The car had problems shifting into gears, the headlights would dim or just turn off while she was driving, the horn would blare and not turn off... she was always having problems with it.
She took care of her car, but I think it was built on a Friday or a hangover Monday. Whenever I drove it, I liked it. It was pretty nice and rode really well.

I mean, it's a Cobalt.. With a turbo.. and some suspension stuff.. Oh and the battery is in the trunk. To me it's kind of like buying an SRT-4 neon, you can call it an SRT-4 instead of a neon, but guess what?.. It's still a Neon. (I was watching pass time the other day and they had two kids on there with SRT-4 Neon's and when they asked them what they were driving both of them just said SRT-4's and had taken the Neon name off of the trunks of their cars. LOL) |
why are you selling the mustang? if you can afford a brand new cobalt SS, i'm pretty sure you can keep the 'stang.
red is a traitor for going to chevy. :( |

fwd generally has less drive train loss than a rwd car. I won't knock it I've heard those are pretty fun cars....... The supercharged 5.4 badass-and-a-half-ness will be gone though:(

It corners better than any stock car I've driven short of M3's and Vettes. The thing is seriously better in a corner than I am so far. And yeah... it's pretty close on power and weighs 500lbs less than a mustang so I'll bet it'll give a stock stang a run for its money.

I never get to drive the mustang and it's a big asset waiting to be liquidated to eliminate a modest chunk of debt. With that debt gone I can go out and buy a 2011 Boss in a year and have plenty of car and a helluva lot more money to mess with.
Anyone that wants to give 13K for the stang can have it. I'll even have it tuned for ya. |

So far reports from owners of 09' SS cars have been splendid. Don't think I didn't do a bunch of research before buying.
Also, my best friend is one of those who if she didn't have bad luck, she'd have no luck at all, so it honestly didn't surprise me with all the problems she had with her Cobalt. |
If you really do end up selling the stang r3d, would you consider trading the wheels? Mine for yours, and I could probably muster up some cash.
|
I can't hate one bit on the SS cobalts. Thoes are good cars. They are magicians in the corners and are plently fast.
|
Sweet car man! 4 pot brakes, damn! thats baller.
Thats the speed 3's arch rival. |
Russ: Sure man. They're DD's. My tires are new too.
|
Congrats on the new car man.

It is, but not many people would pay for a modified-to-the-hilt streetable racecar. When you modify, you never get out what you put in.

I may have time today to swing by. I'll hit you up around 4:30.

I shall endeavor to be around. May lag a bit... traffic and all.

I love the new cobalt ss. They are completly new cars compared to when they first made the ss supercharged. I forgot what magazine it was but they got a bone stock one down the track at 13.8 and it pulls lateral g's like no other. It also holds the new front wheel drive production car fasted lap time at nierburgring(sp??). I would love to get one if I had the money but in retrospect it still is a cobalt.

Some neato details:
It uses the GM LNF engine: A turbocharged direct injected (redubbed Spark Ignition Direct Injection) Ecotec was introduced in the 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line. It is a longitudinally mounted engine. Displacement is 2.0 L—1,998 cc (121.9 cu in)—with a square 86 millimetres (3.4 in) bore and stroke. Compression is 9.2:1 and maximum boost is 1.4 bar (20.0 psi), delivering 260 hp (190 kW) at 5300 rpm and 260 lb·ft (350 N·m) of torque from 2500–5250 rpm. Engine redline is at 6300 rpm and premium fuel is recommended. The sodium filled exhaust valves were based on technology developed for the Corvette V8 powertrains. The sodium fuses and becomes a liquid at idle, which improves conductivity and draws heat away from the valve face and valve guide towards the stem to be cooled by the engine oil circulating in this aerea. The camshaft-driven direct injection systems pressurizes the fuel to 52 bar (750 psi) at idle, and up to 155 bar (2,250 psi) at wide-open throttle. The "Gen II" block is similar to the 2.4 L and also features VVT technology. The Gen II block was developed using data from racing programs and computer simulations. The bore walls and bulkheads were strengthened with a weight increase of 1 kg (2.5 pounds). The coolant jackets were expanded to improve heat rejection, resulting in a coolant capacity increase of 0.5 liters. Unique LNF features[1] include: * a twin-scroll turbocharger * cam-driven high pressure gasoline direct injection fuel system * dual camshaft continuously variable valve timing * sodium-filled stainless steel Inconel exhaust valves * low-friction cast aluminum pistons with oil squirters * forged steel crankshaft * forged steel connecting rods * cast stainless steel exhaust manifold This engine is used in: * 2007–2009 Opel GT * 2007–2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP * 2007–2009 Saturn Sky Red Line * 2008-2010 Chevrolet HHR SS * 2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt SS * 2010 Fisker Karma * 2009 Elfin T5 Also uses a Torsen diff supplied by quaife which explains the lack of significant tq steer. |
^ good stuff. The sodium filled exhaust valves i did not know about. Freaking cool!
|
The HPF system is surprising to see on an economy class chassis. Good stuff.
