Thumbs up Verizon phone opinion?

I will be getting a new Verizon phone very soon. I like the Droid a lot but the Storm 2 isn't bad either.

Just wondering if anyone has either and what they think of them.

I had Storm 1 and I hated it but I went to Verizon today and liked all 3.

Droid got amazing reviews except the keyboard is flat and wimpy.

My choices are:

Droid
Droid Eris
Storm 2

Can't you try out the phone for a week, and exchange it with another if you don't like it? I'm pretty sure you can, do that.

My wife has the blackberry tour and likes it a lot. Ever since I held the droid, I wasn't too impressed. It felt kinda cheap and flimsy. I would either go with the Storm 2, or wait for the Samsung Omnia 2. I have the first Omnia and love it. The new one will have a 8gig or 16gig model, plus has the micro sd expansion, AMOLED screen, WinMo 6.5, wi-fi, and all the other bells and whistles. Look it up and see. i think it's coming out pretty soon. And yes, with Verizon you can pretty much try out the phone for 30 days.

Don't get the Storm 2. They have so many problems. Almost as bad as the iPhone.

The Omnia is awesome. I, as well, have the first Omnia and I love it. The Omnia 2 is the best phone to be released IMHO. It's simplistic and not some crap-berry that locks up, with the exception of the Tour they actually made it well.

I like the Droid system, but the phones don't impress me all too much. The system is what makes it awesome, not the phone itself. My Omnia kills it in speed and multi-tasking.

Have you modded your Omnia at all? It's nice having a WinMo phone since there are so many was to mod the phone. I'm running 6.5 on mine and it's very touch friendly.

I haven't done 6.5 yet. I saw it on my buddies Omnia last wednesday when we put in his procharger, but I haven't done it to mine. I thought about trying to upgrade the internals, but have yet to find a way that is fullproof. So it'll probably just stay stock for now.

I would definitely say to upgrade to 6.5. It's easy to do and I've had it on there for awhile. The phone does freeze up at times, but nothing major. Just soft reset and you're back in business. Check out Modaco.com or ppcgeeks.com and you can find tons of roms. Let me know if you decide to do it, and I can point you to the rom I loaded.

Anyways, for the OP, heres the Samsung Omnia 2.

loading a new rom is very simple. Theres basically a program you download, open up the rom, plug your phone in and then takes a few minutes to load the rom to the phone. I've done it a bunch of times now trying out new roms.

AT&Ts contract with Apple doesn't expire until either 2010 or 2011. There were rumors that Apple was looking at desiging a different iPhone for Verizon, but who knows. Apple originally went to Verizon first, but Verizon passed cause they couldn't be in charge of their own warranty and Apple wanted too much of the profits. For the amount of iPhones that are sold, AT&T doesn't really make money off of them since Apple has so much control over them.

AT&T makes little to nothing on the sales, while Apple RAKES in from the apps. I want the rumors to be cleared and the truth to come out! I heard Apple's contract is up in 2010 and Verizon wants them to make a new iPhone for a 4G network. While AT&T wants to push the contract back a year because their 4G network won't be ready.

Also that Apple is hesitant to partner with Verizon because they passed the first time around and Apple wasn't happy about that. Then again Apple hates AT&T because their service sucks. If Apple partners with Verizon, Apple's smartphone market share would double and then some.

I say....Verizon 4G iPhone Summer 2010 PLEASE!

Even if the iPhone came to Verizon, I still don't know that I would get one. I'm not a fan of Apple and I don't see why people go crazy over Macs and everything. They are way over priced and don't do anything differently a PC can't do. Same thing with the iPhone, doesn't do anything most other phones can't. They have a good marketing team and apps don't make the phone. 90% of the apps are useless. Plus Microsoft already showed how easily it is to port over the apps that are made for the iPhone. It's a good multimedia phone.

I agree!
I've had an ipod touch since it came out and every time im in a wifi spot i rather use my touch than my Omnia.
the interfaces are more user friedly and you can have all kinds of apps that are actually usefull like online radio, myspace, facebook, ebay, paypal, etc.
Plus name a cellphone that downloads youtube videos and saves them on your phone? plus 100 times better video quality!
all this made me want to get an iphone!

I have the Omnia and have Pandora and Facebook on it. Works great too. Most iPhone apps aren't useful. Didn't know the iPhone could save youtube videos, but they are shitty quality anyways, so no need to.

Try the beta for the Opera 10 browser. Works great.

But the iPhone is not the iTouch. The phone blows. Overheating problems, horrible battery, the operating system has bugs and problems that cause it to lock up all the time. Yes it's easier to use because it's simple.

I can type up word documents, excel documents and then transfer them to my PC and it looks perfect. Show me an iPhone that does that right....

I can view powerpoints for my classes on my phone to study for tests. Plus the iPhone has no multi=app running capabilities. I can listen to Pandora and type a paper at the same time.

Plus, you pay sooo much for iPhone service it's ridiculous.

A buddy of mine pays $75 a month for just himself. That's insane! I think my family pays like $100 or something for the Verizon family plan!

yes, i downloaded mixtube which lets you download high res. videos.
idk if your omnia plays youtube videos with good resolution but when i try to watch videos on youtube from mine the resolution sucks! and most videos pop up with a "not available on mobile network" tag! pisses me off!

Almost any smart phone with internet will play youtube with as good of a res as possible. At least any blackberry, palm, and the omnia line.

You figure the screen resolution on ANY phone is still only DVD resolution. 320x480 is the iPhone, the Omnia II is 480x800. But not hi-res at all so that part doesn't matter.

As far as video goes in general windows based phones stomp out the iPhone. The only format iPhones accept are mpeg-4 and H.264.

My omnia can use Divx, Xvid, MP4, H.264, and WMV files. Being the audiophile I am I also like the availability to be able to play loss-less audio files(FLAC) , not shitty MP3s only.

I like the iPhone, but too many people try to say it's the most powerful phone out there and trumps all others, which is a false statement. It's a fad for most people. Particularly the college kids I see walking with them at school everyday.

There is no denying the iPhone is sick. Sure, there are a ton of useless apps, but there is a ton of useful ones as well. The presentation is sleek and fluid. Nothing about it is choppy or laggy, like every Verizon phone I've used >
It makes me jealous that I can't get one. Really, the only thing that stomps the iPhone in my eyes is the iPod Touch. Text and Skype apps = free phone for the most part. But, all of this is just my opinion, I know a few of you have different views than I.

But explain me why it's better...because no one else can.

Text apps and skype apps do not equal free because you have to pay for internet service, which requires a minute plan as well. AT&T isn't that dumb, unless you have a hacked HTC touch with free 3g like people I am (not) affiliated with.

Exactly. Nobody can really say why it's the "best" phone out there. My friend has gone apple now. Got a new Macbook, and iPhone and says he'll never go back to a PC. He says the Mac does everything better and so much easier to use, but can't give specifics. I've played around with the iPhone and Macs and they aren't anything special. I'm not saying my phone is the greatest thing on earth, but like 08mustang said, it's a fad.

I haven't had any issues with my verizon service or phones since I signed up with them how ever many years ago. I've loaded custom roms to my Omnia to make it better and give me more apps and functions to use that Verizon sometimes likes to lock down, but a lot of people jailbreak their iPhone as well. If I had AT&T, I'd probably get one since they don't have really any other phones I like, but I wouldn't switch services because of it.

Lol, we're not being defensive we're stating the truth. You can't be defensive when you're the one asking questions. No one can tell me why the iphone is better. Everything they try to throw out my phone or something else out there can do better.

You're being defenisve about your precious iPhone that honestly, does not do anything more than any other phone out there. Prove me wrong if you can.

Did I say anything about Blaze said it's the best phone out there? Didn't think so. Sounds like someone needs to remove the sand from their vagina. I was stating how most of the people who own one think it's the best phone, but yet can't really say why it's the best phone. I'm not the one getting defensive.

LMAO!!! Just quit please. I'm going to **** my pants if you don't. Are you sure you shouldn't be driving a honda civic? Because you use the same responses as them.

Not being a dick, but seriously. When you get shot down your responses are always "be more mature" or "Don't be so defensive."

If you want to go into maturity I am almost certain that I have been through way more **** than you could possibly ever think.

You, sir, are the one who needs to quit being immature. If you could prove to me that I was wrong than I would accept my being wrong, but instead you fail to do so and instead just get pissed and try to play "good cop, bad cop".
