Default Contemplating getting rid of the stang

Why

It has over 140000 miles
RWD in winter is entertaining but bad for the heart
I keep wanting to spend money on it to make it go faster when it's just not supposed to be
I want something that will autocross better out of the box
I want a standard tranny

Why not

No car payment
I love mustangs

Right now I am looking seriously at this
It's 8 miles from me has less miles, better MPG and I know a guy who autocrosses a stock one and he kills me every time

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

let the flaming begin

if thats what you like, get it. It has potential. How is the aftermarket for those SE-R's?

I just think it looks fairly clean and it's not to rice

ive been contemplating the same thing too. I wont sell the stang though, but I want a decent daily driver that isnt as cheaply put together as the stang. I mean for christ sakes half the mods ive done to the car are taped on Grill delete, bumper inserts, emblems. This car is basically held together with tape LOL. Im scared one day Ill hit a pothole and half the car will fall off. Id like to get a used CTS, but my buddy is trying to convince me to get an audi because apparently their saftey is immaculate, and he got into a serious accident, and swears had he not been driving an audi he would be dead. Thats important to me since i drive with my little man alot now. I like the CTS tho, and i feel yo pain

You need to take a long hard look at insurance with those kinds of cars. The ricers have killed the rates in those things, apparently they think "R" stands for "R"eck!

The insurance will probably be about as much as a GT Mustang.

i think that since ford gm and chrysler have been forced to start making better quality cars to be more competitive with foreign automakers, people have realized that they can get a car nowadays with a better build quality that we are used to. I mean since ford gm and Chrysler got away with spoon feeding us **** for so long. ive noticed on forums like this one and a few others that alot of people are starting to give up on their stangs for other vehicles. I mean just about everytime i look on SVTP someone is selling their cobra/lightning. i think the mustang interest has peaked. At least until the 2011's start roaming the lots.

I got a full coverage qoute from giecoe for 104 a month so through my insurance company it should be even less when I merge it with my wifes car

I have no tickets in the last 4 years and I have never filed an insurance claim

finding insurance quotes is so ******* annoying

don't get me wrong I would love a GT but this car also has 4 doors and I am going on the assumption that my next car may need car seats at some point

i don't like sentras. there are a few select foreign cars i would own, so i am going to give you a couple examples to consider.

mid 80's Supra (1985)
300ZX ( or straight Z)
Skyline. (good luck with that one)

if you want to go get one, go right ahead. but look around at all cars, and choose the right one for the money.

I give a big thumbs up for the SE-R Spec V. I have a buddy that has had one for a while any it has been a great car. Quick (relativly), reliable, useful due to having four doors. He also had a head on collision at about 60mph with a deer, no serious damage other than needing to be rebult. He has done some mods, intake, exhaust. Also, Sportscar magazine, the magazine you get when you are a SCCA member, has a SE-R spec V as a project car that they have used for autocross, rallycross, and now road racing and have done well. I've got back issues.

eh, I just don't know about that one. The insurance on that car is more than my GT. I would maybe look at some other options.

Trying to set up a test drive that will really decide

I'm also looking at subarus but I would want a WRX and they are way more expensive at least around here or have 120000+ miles

If I really like the way the car drives and looks up close I might offer him 5700 and see if he counters

If I can get him to 5900 I will probably get it just cause I have a hard time imagining finding a car that I could have that much fun in with 67k miles for that price and still have it be economical to some extent

The closest one to me that is even close to my price range is 233 miles away It's only 10 k but I'm sure the insurance companies know everything about evos

anything closer is pushing 20k far more then I am willing to pay at this point

and from what I have seen of people who own them they always seem to be broken or having some type of issue that makes them lean or rich or some ****

I would love to buy something more high end and I most likely could but if something happened with my job it could strain the budget.

I feel that this car would be practical and fun. To be honest this thing would leave my stang in the dust around a corner or in a straight line.

I think mustangs are way sexier but that's the only place my car can compete with this..... except for doing doughnuts but I never do those

Like you said wait to decide till after the test drive. if you like it after that then go for it.

Edit: Think of it this way it's like the cobra of the sentras

one of my good friends has a spec-v. really isn't that great. it's a nice car for what it is. i wouldn't choose that car for an autox car though.

Sentras are OK, but I've never been a big fan of small cars.

Meh I would keep my car. Just add springs and better wheel/tires and you will be able to handle much better.

I think your still on stock suspension and wheel/tires right?
