WHo would be interested in buying detailing supplies and lighting upgrades?

I am currently in the works to start my business up. I am working on the website right now and hope to have everything up and running in the next 2-3 weeks. I wanted to offer a place for us mustang guys to get good detailing supplies from someone you know who is not going to screw you over.

I am curious who would be interested in Poorboys detailing supplies and possibly DDM slim ballast HID kits. I will expand my product line as I can. I am in talks with a few other suppliers as well right now like chemical guys for those who know Adams detailing products, chemical guys makes all their stuff with a different name on it, or so I heard.

This has been a little dream of mine for many many years and I figure I should just do it and see if it works out or not.

MB.com members will get a nice little discount of course on everything.

Hardest part for me is coming up with a name for my business.

PColav6 08-31-2009 12:48 PM

Gonna get the license and resale cert and all that jazz? Retail is a lot of stuff to keep up with. I could help you with the name

spike_africa 08-31-2009 12:51 PM

Because its an online business that will be run from my home all I have to get is a Florida business lisence. Problem is that I need a name before I can do that. I kinda want it to have something to do with my screen name since alot of people know me from that. And I would like to think I have a good reputation with most people.

zigzagg321 08-31-2009 01:16 PM

Being that Im in the biz, I might become a customer of yours... that is, if you could give me a bulk discount.

Black Sunshine 08-31-2009 01:21 PM

I would damn sure buy from you. I've been wanting to try Poorboy's products, anyway, but didn't know who to buy them from or how Poorboy's customer service was. I also have HID lights on my list. One of the few things I have left to do with the exterior of the car.

I'm going to call one of my uncle's about the name of your business. He's a really creative person and I know he could think of something awesome for you. :)

WNRacing 08-31-2009 01:27 PM

I think you know that Mustang guys/girls support their own, so that is pretty much a no-brainer. I love PB products, so I'd definitely be interested in that, still can't decide on HID's for the 'Stang yet, but I may be interested in that too.

Are you looking to get into all kinds of detailing stuff, or just a retailer for a few companies?

Steeda97 08-31-2009 01:43 PM

I'd definitely do it. I'd choose a name that isn't mustang-related just incase you want to expand your business to serve a greater amount of enthusiasts, you won't have to deal with the name change later on.

I'd definitely buy from you. I've never used poorboys products but i'd give them a go.

As much as the over-the-counter shit sucks, you should stock it. You can beat the stores prices by at least 10% if not better. Most people do their shopping online nowadays, and they won't know what "Nattys Paste Wax" is, but they'll sure as hell know what turtlewax is, or other common product.

PColav6 08-31-2009 01:46 PM

You're going to need to apply for a resale certificate and the appropriate tax form, you can do it online once you have your license and tax ID number( get that at IRS.gov)

You need a sales and use tax form and probably one more since you have inventory. Remember you do have to charge sales tax to fl residents and need to fill out the form quarterly. I have almost all of the same legal stuff that you'll need since selling a service is basically a product. So I can help you with that if you need any.

K.G.B. 08-31-2009 01:47 PM

would definetely buy from you!
. that 50% discount you mentioned sounds appealing! :D

shad0ws 08-31-2009 01:49 PM

As far as customers, I'm pretty sure you've already got all of us as customers for those who would be interested in your products. I know when it comes time for HID's and some detailing products I will definitely come to you Spike. I wish you the best of luck with it and taking this on by yourself truly shows your character of a strong willed person which we all know you are.

Switch 08-31-2009 02:43 PM

Considering you're a friend and neighbor I would buy from you in a heartbeat. If there's anything I can do for you let me know.

3.8for the win 08-31-2009 02:49 PM

whitestang04 08-31-2009 03:02 PM

I would buy the heck out of some PB products, as well as a set of HIDs. The slim-ballast was exactly what I was looking at.

01FR500 08-31-2009 04:27 PM

I would buy. I want to try some Poorboys products and I am getting HIDs for the car someday, just don't know when.

I would definitely buy some HIDs from you if you were selling them.

White04GT 08-31-2009 08:19 PM

I'm down for the HID kit for sure. After seeing your foglight HID kit I realized how bad I want some hid's fog lights and head lights...just waiting to get the car back first!

spike_africa 09-01-2009 04:30 AM

Thanks for the kind words guys and gals.

I have always wanted to open up a small online business and well hope that it would grow to something larger.

I do want to keep the name kind of non mustang specific so I could sell more products, but really I want it to grow enough to be able to carry mustang parts aswell. But for now it will just be detailing supplies and Slim ballast HID kits.

For pricing on the HID kits, I think I am going to be able to do them for $83-85 shipped for all non dual beam kits (still working on pricing for dual beam) with my support and tech included of course. I plan to make a few install tech guides to help people out.

And I will carry more then PB products, but for now since they make good stuff and I have been buying from them for awhile. I am going to start out with their line, and then add more as time goes on. Its very expensive to stock product so I need more capital before I can carry more.

I actually like spikes spot a lot lol.

And Pcola like I said I called the state of FL and told them my planes and they said I did not need any of those. But I when I go in to register my business name and get my business lisence I will ask if this truly is all I need to have. So thanks for the heads up.

Hopefully this works out as its going to drain my entire savings down to almost nothing to get this up and going, but you gotta take a chance once in awhile and see what happens.

I still need a name though.

venom 09-01-2009 06:53 AM

Sounds like a good idea. Pricing is important. Im in the works with something as well but only in the dreaming phase.

whitestang04 09-01-2009 09:22 AM

I really like Spikes spot too. Good luck to ya and keep us posted on your progress.

Lazerred6 09-01-2009 09:43 AM

SpikeSite

Steeda97 09-01-2009 09:46 AM

Spikes spot sounds like a pet store.

spike_africa 09-01-2009 02:19 PM

Thanks for the idea's guys, but I finally got a name and the site is currently being put together right now. I hope to have it done asap. I am going to register my business name and get my business lisence tomorrow and whatever other forums I might need. So look forward for a place to buy from real soon.

I plan to have a little something special for my opening for the MB.com members who purchase once we open the doors up. Aka a nice sale for you all!

whitestang04 09-01-2009 02:39 PM

You'll have to bring some products to the meets so we can save some money on shipping :p

mustangV6_04 09-01-2009 02:41 PM

Not trying to burst your dreams, but as an investor and watching out for you.

Personally i dont think its a good investment,

Specially with competitors like autogeek. those guys are the wal-mart of detailing supplies, and i know they are hurting really bad right now, everyday i get more newsletters and internet coupons then i ever in my life have had from them, from free shipping to 30%-50% off items. With the economy, one of the things i noticed is not everyone spends hundreds on detailing supplies like they use too.

They are hard to compete with since they have bought a lot of small brands, own stocks of competitors, literally buy items by the CONTRAINERS.

They had a "detail fest show" back in april which i got to attend, and i got to tour their massive warehouse. All their items are purchased by the containers.

They get meguiers, poorboys, four star, mothers, and other brands cheaper then anyone else.

Not only that but they also make a lot of products in house, their whole pinnacle line, wolfgang, and a few more brands they own and make it in house. AND their the official U.S. dodojuice distributors.

All their microfibers are also purchased by containers from china which allows them to give them for free with every order and sell them for dirt cheap.

Like i said, im not trying to burst your bubble, but I would look into other ventures to invest in.

I noticed your in Florida, im going to PM you one of my business ideas of a florida business im starting that is very promising.

mustangvsix 09-01-2009 11:27 PM

I am a poorboys fan, and have been meaning to buy there black hole glaze and ex-p sealent for the next time I detail my car. I would definitely buy if the prices are even somewhat competitive. I would rather support a fellow mustang enthusiast then just some random large company. You should try to get some common polishing pads as well.

Good Luck Spike, My wife started her online business as just a hobby, but it turned out to much more than that. Main problems were shipping issues, and payments for stuff. Get paypal for sure, and get a good website, she had one that actually was pretty good, but it ended up being expensive. And you have to be online all the time, any interuptions causes delays, and that pisses people off.. People who pay by check, have to wait for it to clear, and that was a problem sometimes.. It is defenately not a hobby type thing to persue.. She gave it up after a year of no profit.

But I'm comparing apples to oranges here. Just be ready to have a full time job on your hands. I'll buy some stuff from ya.. You take paypal, Right.. :)

rebelyell 09-01-2009 11:51 PM

Oh, and another thing is, you can get a tax break on your computer stuff you buy for your business. Right it off as business expense. Get yourself a bad ass computer and the fastest internet you can find.. You'll need it..

Here's a name: Spikes Shines.. ;)

I didn't think you actually washed or waxed your own car.

I think if you start out small, you can have a good chance. Especially if you are getting good business from guys on forums. Or you can always go with Spinz grand business idea.

spike_africa 09-02-2009 09:13 AM

I respectfully declined Spinz offer. The whole point of this is that I have always wanted my own business, and I have always wanted to do something with cars since I was little.

And I hope like you said that while I start off small, that with references from you guys and others that it might grow into a decent sized business. I just can't not try it since you only live once you know.

Yeah but if you grow big enough and have the capital to get enough product you can do this

http://www.compucarnitrous.com/index...d=52&Itemid=60

Now I know that a 20 kit buy in is a bit much to start with but no body else ships their kits and if you get big enough and can manage the buy in it would be really cool..... you can put me down for a kit for sure..... maybe two if I can talk the wife into having some fun with her mountanieer
