Default My first street race, utter defeat

K, so I've had this car for a couple months now but have never really raced anyone. On my way to walmart the other day I stopped at a redlight next to a yellow ZR1 with black stripes and license plate was something to the effect of "killer bee"

I pulled on him for a few seconds then he threw it into 3rd and left me in the dust, his exhaust sounded like bombs going off and I swear my ears were ringing

No offense, but did you really think you'd be able to take a ZR1?

You don't race a ZR1 in a V6 Mustang. I mean, I'm one of those folks that says "NEVER STREETRACE", but those who are gonna do it are gonna do it....if you're gonna race, race something you can compete with. Like a Geo! lol.

no sir

there aren't many nice cars around where I am, just a bunch of ricers who I don't even bother with. I knew I wouldn't win, I just wanted to see how long I would last since it was the first suped up car I've had the chance to race

Damn Nick, that was harsh... The new sixxers are actually decently quick for what they are.

Now, Garrett, when you say you "pulled on him for a few seconds..." I assume that you're joking, or that the ZR1 didn't know that you were "racing" because a ZR1, or just about any fairly modern Corvette would walk you in every single gear, no questions asked.

I could probably take a ZR1 off the line due to the crazy amount of wheel spin it has. But if they were a decent driver, they would most likely pass me before 3rd.

Actually, the proper term to be used with me would be "no ma'am". Although I don't like being called a ma'am because it makes me feel like I'm 94 years old when I'm only 24.

It wasn't meant to be harsh...I haven't driven the new sixxers so I don't know much about them. I was just thinking about my old 99' sixxer that would've lost to a Geo Metro had I ever raced one. lol.

No he knew it was a race, I revved my engine and he revved his before it turned green. I'm fairly certain his tires were spinning off the line and it seemed like he wasn't really threatened by me because he wasn't shifting fast, but as soon as he got it in 3rd he floored it and ripped my ear drums apart

I had a 2-3ft lead for all of 2 seconds

No doubt, same here, but we have 2 more cylendars and weigh less.. (Than Garrett's Sixxer.)

I say bore/stroke a 460 to 521ci and throw it in your car along with some really good tires. Then try to race that guy

Was this a 90-95 ZR1 because that would be a little closer race.

I could believe it if the guy in the ZR1 was doing a flat burn-out from the stop light, other than that there is no way.

One of the few times I've streetraced I was in my old sixxer against a '98 Z28 and I had about a 1ft and a half lead on the guy...but then he started

Oh well...I had him off of the start, which is what I'm assuming happened here.

The ZR1 that was at the track day in Memphis a few months ago was unGodly fast. I was mesmorized watching it go around the track. I didn't get to race in the same group as it but from what I heard from people who got passed by him was that they would be halfway down the .7 mile straight, with nothing behind them, look back a second later and that big black ZR1 would be roaring past them at 180MPH. I saw this sucker flying down the straight and NOTHING was in it's leauge. I would have sworn that it would plow into the wall it was going so fast, but of course those massice carbon caramic brakes would stop the rotation of the Earth for that until the tires started to rotate again, then Earth's rotation was restored.

Lesson is: You were amazed by a ZR1, the ZR1 never even reaslized you were there.

Are you sure it wasn't just a Z-06, doesn't matter really cause even a stock late model vette would have left on you unless he wasn't paying attention, and most people who drive vettes know better to just floor it at a light.

I jumped on a C-5 vette a few years ago and actually stayed fender to fender with him until we both slammed 3rd gear, then he pulled ahead very nicely, We both slowed down and gave the thumbs up. No harm done, we only hit about 80 or 90 mph. I was concerned though about all the noise we were creating . Dam, same thing happened to me with an 04 GTO, 3rd gear=gone with any LS motor...

i test drove a new 6. they really have alot more acceleration than my model. Its not so much the different engine, its the gear ratios. Each shift it fell into the power curve of the 4.0, well designed. I guess thats why a 300hp mustang gt can ALMOST keep up with a 2010camaro with 400+ hp, gearing, suspension etc. But regardless he was just messing around to get a good idea of where his car was. I'm sure you all have done it before when you all had 6's.

yup yup, to quote Sun Tzu:
If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.
I just came from a '97 grand prix, I just wanted to see what my new sixxer was capable of at stock
