I think the people complaining about rap should look at other types of music as well. Country to me is nothing but being as redneck as you can. Talking about drinking, your girlfriend/wife leaving you, how your childhood sucked. Almost EVERY music style fits into a pattern. Emo music is all about dying and crying. Rap is about how many chicks you had in the club, sexual innuendos, and drinking/doing drugs for the most part. Whoever said that the radio is the problem is completely right. But who asks for the stuff to be played on the radio? The people. That's why iPods and MP3's were created.
I listen to rap/hip-hop but most of the time it's for the music, not the lyrics. I'm a big fan of music in general and I believe any musician is worthy of praise. But, following the crowd and doing the same thing everyone else does is just being a "sell-out".
