Default Anyone have issues with dentists?

Or is it just me? Cause idk, I'm a puss when it comes to work being done in my mouth..lol..

But I really need to go..haven't since like..my freshman year in HS..and I've been chewing since...sophomore year...

Any ways to help with freakin out at the dentists?

If anything more then a filling...I'll prolly ask to be knocked out, lol.

yup.. gotta go to the right dentist tho. call ahead and make sure they are willing to sedate you. some places will sedate you for just a normal cleaning.

Thats what I call a good time lol. The numbing **** they shoot into your mouth doesn't seem to do much for me.. but I'd really like to start going to the dentist..getting my teeth taken care of..and hopefully quit chewing, lol..

I had a reaction to whatever they sedate you with once....that sucked. Other than that, nothing but good experiences.

Nah man, I almost fall asleep every time I go to the dentist, I get so relaxed. I blame the damn light.

Lol. This man had a reaction to the NOS, obviously he doesn't live his life a quarter mile at a time.

No, I'm cool with NOS...I meant that stuff that knocks you the hell out. It's like a bi-product of morphine. Anyway, instead of making me fall asleep and not feel pain, it's paralyzed me and increased the pain.

My dentist is cool as hell. he's a car guy for one thing, plus he was voted Best Dentist in my town at a recent poll the newspaper did. last year my insurance was going through some changes and they wouldn't pay full price for anything other than cleaning, Well I had a cavity that needed filling and my doc asked me about my threshold for pain. LOL, I said I'm a tuff enough old bastard as long as the pain doesn't last too long. ( I've been through some serious surgeries, and pain management was learned in a hurry for me..) He knew about my medical past and told me he could drill and fill my cavity without novacaine. I had told him how much I hate having that fat lip syndrome after a shot in the gum.. Geez, I'd rather feel pain than not having any feeling at all.

Anyway he drilled my tooth and I raised my finger when it started to get too painful, and he would stop.. ask if I was ok. Yep go ahead doc. We did this about 3 times and he filled my tooth with only so much as a little bit of burn with the drill. Saved me over a hundred bucks. And I didn't have to worry bout biting my lip in half or my tongue cause I never had it numbed..

My dentist told me he never would have asked any of his other patients if they wanted that option, but he figured I would like this option because it was only a little bit of pain vs 4 hours of slobbering fat lip synrome.. and no fcking needles to the gum.. LOL. I left alittle sore but happy I could still feel my mouth.. My dentist FTW..

Fukin dentists.

I love how they decide to wait until your mouth is full of clay and swabs and stuff before they ask you how everything is going.

Dentist: "So...how's the wife? how are the kids?"
Me: "Mmmpphhphh...." (**** you, doc)

Those invisaligns are expensive. My friend was doing it. Not sure how much they charge, but it's more expensive then regular brces for sure. I know my insurance which is pretty damn good doesnt really cover for braces unless I had a child under 19 or something.haha

i dont have issues with the dentist...i actually fall asleep during cleanings but i think thats because i usually go while im working 60-70 hours a week. i only had to be sedated once and that was for the wisdom teeth removal and i nearly bit my friggin tongue off eating yogurt of all things. ****, i been denied orthodontic care for the past 5 years! i have to pay out of pocket.

I have serious denatl phobias!!! I blame it on horrible childhood experiences, remember I am old and grew up before dental insurance. Thus we only went to the dentist when the whiskey and asprin were no longer effective, hence we needed serious work. I had a permanent molar pulled when I was 8. And I have more fillings than I can count.

Now I have an excellent dentist and doctor. My dentist wrote a note to my doctor and after talking he prescribes me xanax before any dental work. XANAX FTMFW!!!! the only big draw back is getting a driver when my hubby is deployed.

I hate dental work too. Braces twice because the first Orthodontist fucked up everything in PA. When I moved down to FL and started going to the new guy, he said that the first guy didn't do anything right so we had to start all over. 4 damn years.

It all depends on what is getting done..

I had an impacted molar (wisdom tooth growing horizontally into my molar) so they had to cut it in chunks to get it out. well the damn assistant has no clue how to use the suction thingy, so I kept swalloing tooth dust and blood. tasted ******* nasty.

See..when I was younger...I had work that had to be done..and I'd damaged my front teeth pretty badly..

Broke my two front teeth, and they were just..nubs..on my guns..

The doctor also had to pull some teeth back in the day..and the crunching sound ect from pliers on my teeth was horrible..

Fillings..they'd numb me..but I'd end up feeling it..and I wasn't much of a fan of that...

My insurance is pretty decent, braces would still cost me some cash, but I don't want to be over 20 wearing braces...I'll get the invsalign crap..

dentists never bothered me but i also have a high tolerance for pain. For example when I got all of the wisdom teeth taken out I was fine. Didn't need any pain pills and actually went out and bought the Mustang the next morning

One thing about dental work. It has a lot to do with how you handle intense but usually very brief pain. And the sounds you hear are worse because it's being amplified cause it's reverberating in your skull. I've had 2 of my wisdom teeth pulled with only novacaine and the crunching and snapping noises you hear aren't really that bad. That's only if they aren't grown in so bad that it requires deep cutting. Anyway, using NOS is not an option I would ever use. My wife did that, and got all 4 pulled at once. She was a mess afterwards. The pain hits you all at once as soon as you wake up. And that will make most people sick and hurting.. and when your sick to your stomach percocets don't stay down long enough to do any good..

LOL, Just think about those poor souls before the invention of pain killers or any kind of anesthesia.. God, Just hold em down till we're done with them. .

lol yea... see.. i can deal with pain... i've had a knee surgery...broke an ankle and thought i was good .. stitches put into my finger tip (finger tip is a bad spot) had holes drilled through my nail while the finger is swollen.. ect

But my mouth... I just can't do for some reason.. the pain I could prolly deal with somewhat..but the sounds are the things I can't handle...

Yep, those sounds you hear are barely audible to the dentist. Sounds like a tooth being extracted are like hearing big bones being broken. Makes everyone cringe. When actually it's just a little bitty bone being pulled from your gum. Still though, It never will be pleasant. I actually hate going to get my teeth cleaned because I just don't like being prodded in any area unless I'm doing the prodding..
