this **** is crazy. I guess im partial since i own one, but still. Do you guys have pit bull bans in your areas? I think its the owners responsibility, but then again my dog hasnt YET mauled someone so I cant speak for the other side of the coin here you know... what are ur opinions??

I would say no, but I would definitely increase the punishments for owners of aggressive dogs if their dogs bite someone.
I think if someone's dog bites someone, the owner should be subject to jail time. It's the owner's responsibility to make sure that their dog is under control.

I have a small scar from a pitbull (it wasn't fully grown), it just thought I was playing or something and jump at me and it's claws went right into my side. I blame their reggin owner though.

No. I own one and he is the sweetest. It's all in how you raise them and the environment they are brought up in. Some dogs have more aggressive tendencies than others but people bring it out in them. Mine wouldn't hurt a fly intentionally.
Ever watch the Dog Whisperer? Daddy the pit is the most awesome dog. I think he's owned by RedMan or something.

I have mixed feelings about pit bulls. My neighbor has one and she is about the sweetest dog I've been around. With that said, I'm getting really tired of the the cholo's and Fing thugs who own them.

My first dog was a pitbull and it was never aggressive. A friend of mine has a pitbull and it is the coolest dog, lots of personality. Owners are the reasons dogs are aggressive, and if a dog attacks a person it is the owner that should bear the resonsibility.

I wouldn't say ban them, but screen the suspicious looking people who are getting them. haha. I have mixed feelings as well. My biggest fear would be the fact that their jaws are so strong. Even if they are playing with someone or another dog, you never know that they might bite down a ltitle too hard and not realize it. I personally wouldn't have one.

Banning a dog breed is not going to fix the problem.
The entire culture about buying and selling dogs in america sucks, and that uis why we have issues.
Instead of banning pitbulls, i would like to see them do the following
1) Agressive breed dogs should require a licence to own. Much like a Handgun or Concealed weapons licence.
2) The licence can only be given to a US Citizen and they must have a clean criminal record, No felonies.
3) In order to get the licence the owner must pass a class on Dog Psychology, Dog Training, and Handling Agressive Breeds. They must pay for these classes and pass them to get an Agressive Breed licence.
4) Owners of Aggressive Breed dogs should understand that thier dog will be considered a weapon and if thier dog attacks and harms another person that the owner will be procecuted for "assault with a deadly weapon" and face potential jail time.
Ive heared all the arguments about Pit Bulls. They ARE more prone to agressive behaviors than many other breeds, that is why they are commonly used for dog fighting, intimidation, etc, etc.
You diddnt see a Golden Retriever in Michael Vic's kennel did you?
THAT said, it is all about the owner and how they want to raise the animal. The actions of the animal are a direct result to the owners training and how they are raised.
Pit bulls are not bad dogs, they can make excellent pets, but too many people go out and buy a pitbull because they want a mean dog, then they GET a mean dog and dont know how to raise it, and that is where the problems revolve. Not enough people know the proper way to raise an agressive breed. Period. A few simple classes and a background check to verify they are not into criminal behavior will GREATLY reduce the number of pitbull attacks
My Best friend is part of a working dog group that trains attack dogs, and they do an excellent job of it, somme of you might have seen some of the pics ive posted. They run with Douche Shepards and Belgian Mallanois which are similar to german shepards but easier to train and a little smarter. Those dogs can be turned on and off with a command, and will NOT bite unless ordered to do so. When they are not training they are as mild manored as your average housepet. Then again, they KNOW how to train them rather than just tazing and neglecting them

i don't see the problem with pitbulls i just see the problem in irresponsible people who don't know how to properly restrain the dogs they have... i've been around a lot of pitbulls, some that even act smarter than labs... if you know what you have and what its capable of you won't let things like that happen

I work for Science Diet..and I was in a pet store and had some dumb ****** hick bring his wolf/dog in. mother ****** didn't have it trained and it almost bit my hand off. I told him had that dog bit me, I would file so many charges on his ***.
little kids wander around that store, imagine if it had been one of them.
on the pit bull note, well said chris. I've met a ton of pit bulls, none of which were aggressive. (toward me anyhow)

Any dog can be an ******* if raised by an *******. Both of my dogs are from the pound and my first dog (belle) was very aggressive when I got her because of the previous owners even though she was only 6 months old. She is over 4 years now and is very tame and sweet, unless you come to my door and want to murder me then she will kill you.

im sorry but my dads old Male Chow Chow is more agressive than any pitbull any of you have ever seen...
so no.. and anthony (03GT's) pitbull is the coolest ******* thing..

True story here. I have never owned a bit bull, but I have owned a Very large Doberman and she was indeed the most verocious looking dog I've ever had. She wouldn't hurt a fly unless it was a baby bird, and she was hungry. My littlle beagle is far more aggresive as far as being outside.
Anyway, I was washing my car last year and a big ole, fat headed pitt bull was running toward me at full speed. I was concerned to say the least, but I stood there and waited to see what would happen. The pitbull happily jumped up and tried to lick me to death.. LOL.. Then it ran off to say hello to anyone else who would rub his head and say hello to him, he was happy and just running free. Never found out who he escaped from but I doubt he mauled anybody..
I'd be more concerned about a loose German Shepard or even a Large Chow than I was of this particular big pittbull. You just have to know how to react to dogs in general. I've never seen a dog who would not believe I was indeed a dominate male.. And they will react to the vibes you give to them..
Like the old saying goes. Don't be scared, be dominate..

According to the show "Bite Force" by National Geographic:
Pit Bull bite was 238 lbs
German Shepherd bite was 240 lbs
Wild Dogs bite force was 317 lbs
Rottweiler bite force was 328 lbs
Lion bite force was very close to 700 lbs
Hyena's bite force was 1000 lbs
Snapping Turtle bite force was 1004 lbs
