That's why it would be hard for me to leave my position. I have full benefits where everything is pretty much covered 100% plus my wife is covered and so will my kids. The best part is, I don't pay a dime for it. My retirement is pretty damn good as well. People either love or hate where I work, but I think many healthcare organizations will start following our model in the way we are doing things.

Exactly, if it were just me i'd be a little more inclined to test the private sector, but I have a baby and wife to worry about now so the cost of healthcare is a big deal. I'm pretty sure I know what healthcare provider you work for and I have to say they are my favorite to deal with from a work stand point. We work a lot with your community benefit/government relations people around supporting community health programs They've also been the leader in electronic medical records which is pretty cool as well.

We in the public sector call our medical benefits/retirement the "golden handcuffs". ha ha ha.

I have a buddy that works for a very successful machine shop and he makes pretty damn good money, but shit he pays like $800 a month out of his pocket to cover his wife and kid. While his salary might be high, at the end of the day it's not really because of the cost of healthcare.

In another thread I said if I could go back to college I would have picked a major having to do with the healthcare field. That's where it's at right now.....that and the green industry.

I'm pretty positive you know exactly who I'm talking about.haha. I actually work with one of the teams who does the back end support and build for our eletronic charting system. One of our friends is a teacher and she gets paid a little more than some teachers in other area's, but she has to pay like $900 a month for medical insurance. Once she gets married she can join her husbands plan and then pocket that $900. Pretty stupid how they work those things out.

By the way, to kind of stay on point, I've thought about finishing up my degree and going for some form of healthcare management.

Oh and I also attended Northern Michigan University up in Marquette, MI for 2 years from fall 06 to spring 08. As a marketing major as well however I hated it there and Texas State is much better :D

personally im more of a meat/potatoes and lets get right down to the heart of the matter, so i would be too impatient in college taking 18th century russian literature when im trying to learn to become a geologist. lol


To answer the question though..

I did not go to college, i went into the USAF. Now im working as a telecommunications network analyst (voice network not data) for a pretty stable company. I could go to college and get a degree, but in this career having a degree does not get you any further.

I'll have my BA in Communication Studies in 2 months. I have an AA in Liberal Arts and a certificate in Digital Media, as well. I'm thinking about taking an e-commerce business class and a welding class, after I get my BA in May. Yes, a girl who wants to learn how to weld :)

I originally went to school for drafting, then i switched over to medical, did my EMT-B, paramedics. But halfway through that I landed a job for a frieght company as an admin assistant and now im a freight broker. I sit in a chair calling truckers all day, dispatching them, and getting a brokers fee. Dont think i'll ever leave here. Theres a lot of freight brokers I work with making way over 6 figures a year, even in these tough times.

I have an A/S degree in Public Communcations and I am a few credits shy of a A/S in fire science.
I am also a graduate of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and continue to take continuing eucation courses from there.

At least I can say mommy and daddy had nothing to do with my purchases. and even if they didnt buy them for you...you live rent free, allowing you to have play money for your cars..
