dang, I haven't received anything yet. Good thing most of you don't live in Cali cause I guess the state might give us IOU's on tax rebates cause we are so broke.
I'm not expecting to get anything back anyway. I claim too much on my pay check just to make it each month. |
i am getting 1500 back + 250 state taxes. a nice LCD TV and a nice exhaust is coming now. :D

It all depends on how much money you make, what deductions you have and such. When you don't make much money you usually get a lot of your taxes back.
By the way, tax guy finished our taxes and we are getting like $7K back. I'm stoked, I was assuming we'd get back around $3K or so. Now we can pay off our new AC and I don't have to worry about paying anything out of my pocket.haha |
The IRS makes it tough to figure out the balance of taxes paid vs taxes owed. There are lots of deductions you can use to make your taxable income lower. That's where it gets confusing. It's pretty tough right now to be a middle class american as far as income is concerned. geez my wife and I made around 90 grand in 08, But gaadamm we paid pver 20 grand in federal taxes, and only getting 1700 bucks back.. Geez I'm paying for a bunch of government stuff just cause I worked my ass off all year long. I mean I don't mind paying my fair share, but I would love to take home a little more of my earned income.
Alot of people support the Flat tax rate, and some think we could do away with federal tax altogether and just raise the sales tax to compensate.. Lot's of if's and's or but's about the the way out Government gets the money it wants.. As far as me and my wife, We pay more than our fair share.. IMHO.... :boink: |

That's probably why I got back a lot for the last two years or so. Without taxes being taken out, I think I made about 22k or so and I claimed 1. How come you two are getting so much back? HAHA :(

Dang man, that's sweet! I've never got more than $2k back and I'll be happy if we don't have to pay this year. Our loan is interest only so basically every months mortgage we get to write off, which including the property taxes we can write off that comes to about $26,000. We also had a baby girl in November so that will help, plus I try to claim just about anything else like mileage for work. Might even try to claim my home internet/phone cost cause I have a little side consulting gig that I do at home. I don't worry about the federal taxes to much, but the state is what scares me. They rape us!
I was definitely surprised at how much we are getting back. I was assuming about 3K or so. We have our property taxes impounded in our mortgage so it's nice not having to set money aside to pay for that. The 7K we are getting back is actually federal and state combined. I think we are getting 1500 back from state, but who knows when that will actually be. I'm hoping we got everything in early enough to not be affected by the IOU. We'll see though. |
I just got PAID!!! and it went straight to the CC :(

Got mine done finally and am expecting a cool $1500 back yay for manditory savings
|
My tax money and my CD that I have that just matured is either going to go to:
A: Pay off my credit card. B: Pay off part of my credit card and buy a few more things I want for my car. C: Straight into my bank account. I think I may do option 'B'. My mod bug is making me itch like hell again. |

As a firefighter.. I get a lot of professional deductions, union dues, the cost of professional trade magazines (I subscribe to 4 of them) mileage to and from my second job at the Fire Academy, mileage to/from the firehouse for recalls for fires, mileage to and from fire details, mileage for attending fire and EMS courses, the cost of the courses, uniform maintenance and purchases, the cost of EMT recertification and my driver's license as well as the standard home mortgage deduction and other deductions.
Wifey works for an accounting firm, so we get our taxes done for free as one of her job perks! We have ben averaging about $4K to $5K back per year. |
