Default Post up your computer monitors!!!!!!!!

So i am in the market for a new monitor for school. the one i use is a crappy acer 19" that i bought last year. I have been using it and every moment i absolutely hate it. lol. so i decided to put out some decent money and get a nice monitor.

19" Acer LCD
1440x900
Matte Screen

the LCD im looking at is a Gateway 22" HD LCD
1680x1050
2000:1 contrast
2 ms r/t

and the most important thing i look for in a monitor (now) is that it has HDMI cause i can hook either my computer and my xbox to my monitor very key when you have a roomate that watches ESPN 24/7 lol

oh, and this is running off of my Dell M1330 laptop.

For computer monitors viewsonic is one of the best brands you can buy. NEVER EVER EVER buy a Gateway/HP/Dell/Acer monitor, they all suck ***. I don't know how many people I tell at work everyday that those computer monitors suck. The only reason they're even made is for bundle packages with desktops, they're why over priced for what they are by themselves. My computer monitor has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio with a 2ms response time and a 120hz refresh rate and only cost me $220 for a 22". That's paying retail, no employee discount.

Just a fare-warning.....you can take it or leave it.

I have a 21" Optiquest CRT monitor, as I play alot of PC simulation games. Its big and bulky, but does good at gaming. I just got a new computer, and gave my son the old one. It came with a 19" flatscreen, and I gave it to him and kept my old one.

I agree with you on this one, I have a ViewSonic LCD flatscreen widescreen that was given to me and I love it. A lot better then my old Dell monitor, non flat screen. Everyone tells me how lucky I am and what not, but I don't know much about Monitors besides that mine is good for gaming and stuff. I watch new movies before they come out on it and I love it. Although it's not HD, haha.

Yeah mins is a ViewSonic VA1912WB and I love it, so much better for gaming and movies, but I quit gaming. Then again I haven't really experinced many other monitors, besides Dell, GateWay, and HP suck for sure. I do love the resolution and all the other qualities it has. I usually just got to my friend since he is a huge gaming nerd and has to have the best of the best. Paid $4,000 plus for his computer set up. I think just the tower and monitor.

NOT A PICTURE OF MINE, JUST A GOOGLE PICTURE, THE VIEWSONIC LCD FLATSCREEN VA1912WB THAT I HAVE IS ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE

thanks for the warning...but im paying cash for it (i have no way of getting to my bank when im 40 mins away lol). i would def. heed your advise but im dead set on this gateway. its not a bad price ($200) and i would sell this one i have now so i wont take too much of a hit.

does your viewsonic have a glossy screen? that is what is selling me on the whole deal. i found an LG for the same price and specs but it has a matte screen.

and badfish..i love your LCD lol. im buying a 46" samsung 1080p for my apartment with in the next few months. cant wait!!

Depending on which model you get it does have a gloss screen. Mine has the glossy type screen and I love it, so i agree with you there. If my monitor wasn't for a good price I wouldn't have got it, because I do play gaming, but honestly a monitor can never compare to hooking it up to a 42" (Badfish isn't the only one haha).

Hope you like it man.

Ok yellowstang here's a question for you. For graphic design would you get a Mac or a PC??? Either way I'm going to partition and run both, but which is better. Everyone I ask gives me mixed opinions.

And lol at the studio set-up....that's a lot of monitors and expensive *** equipment.

If you are going to be using it for graphics, a Mac will be your better bet. PC's are good for gaming, but mac's rock when dealing with photos and alot of workplaces that are serious about graphics run mac's. Alot of people bash Mac's, but most people that bash just don't understand them. Most people are pro PC or pro Mac. There aren't too many in between people, thats why you get mixed answers. I don't just run a mac for photoshop purposes, I haven't had to ctrl-alt-del since I went to mac/apple. I can run photoshop, illustrator, and idesign/quark all at the same time on 512 or 1 gb of memory and not lock up because I don't have a million things running in the background sucking up my ram memory. Yes, you can run a PC and be just fine, just load about 4gb of ram memory on it from the get go. I love my mac because it runs consistently and never locks up. Call it bad luck, but I have never had that from any of the 7 brand new pc's that I've owned. So, that put a sour taste in my mouth for PC's. Respectively, both systems have pro's and con's and mac/pc users could argue all day which is better (wouldn't surprise me if what I'm saying starts a pc/mac flaming war), but I have tried both and if you are wanting to know my experience as a graphic design major, I say Mac. Just my 2 cents...

AMD has had Hyperthreading for a LOOONG time. Intel has JUST got into the Hyperthreading game. AMD> Intel

Lol yea right. Intel kills AMD. Just because AMD had it first doesn't mean they're better at it. Once you Hyperthread the AMD the heat it puts out jumps up to like 45-50 degrees. Compared to the hyperthreaded Intel running at 32 degrees. Intel has always outperformed Intel, AMD is just cheap. The AMD processors suck when you try to overclock them, you might get MAYBE a small increase but nothing like you could with the Intel.

actually AMD processors got screwed over. Intel 'stole' the hyperthreading tech. lol and AMD's usually run ALOT cooler than intel. thats why a lot of gaming pc's i have ever built used AMD's

he New AMD quad core processor 9600 i believe can safely be o/c from 3.1 ghz to 3.6 ghz on a factory heat sink, thats about 15%... ht eintel quad core have a problem with melting one or two of the cores when o/c..

oh and for a quick thinker.. AMD vs Intel is like Windows vs. Linux. Windows and Intel think they can do everything so they try to, and it slows them down alot. while AMD and Linux only do what you ask them to do.. like if you put on a stock windows (let say xp because vista is a hog) vs Ubuntu from Linux which is more elaborate like vista. Windows will come with all this junk that most of us won't use, while Linux is simple and sweet. same with intel and amd, amd is just simple and sweet.

You need to go re-edjumucate yourself on AMD Vs. Intel buddy.

AMD has ALWAYS run cooler that Intel, they've been the first to develop most new technologies for processing chips. Overclocking is way overdone, most people just do it because they can. I've never had any reason to overclock an AMD processor and I've run huge programs like 3DSMAX 5 simultaneously with Paint shop and another rendering program, All of that on an 64bit X2 3800+.

The Intel Vs. AMD debate is similar to the Mac Vs. PC except there's a clear winner in this one. AMD. Period.

Really? I've tested over twenty different computers and in every single case the intel outperformed the similarly priced AMD. Using 3dMark and a bunch of other programs the Intel came out on top. As for the overclocking I have never heard of an Intel melting the cores. I'm not trying to start a fight but I have never had an Intel that has failed compared to two bad experiences with AMDs, but this was a while ago too. I'm not bashing AMD I just don't like them and from what I've experienced I'd prefer an Intel over an AMD.
