I had my wisdom teeth pulled yesterday and I'm on penicillin VK and loritabs, can't eat any real food so I'm stuck with soup, ice cream and fluids. Somehow I'm 6lb lighter than I was thursday so I guess im pretty malnourished right now. Felt okay earlier today and went over to my neighbor's house with my dad to check out his new gun and answer some questions about it. Started feeling dizzy all of a sudden and just fainted right into a ******* chair and nailed my chest/neck. Came to almost instantly after that and it felt like it was a dream. Now I'm back in bed, laying here feeling weak and tired and wishing I recover asap.....I feel like an ******* for fainting in his garage.

Yeah, thats sucks. I haven't had my wisdom teeth pulled, but I have had 11 of my baby teeth, yes 11 of them. Apparantly they didn't want to fall out and at one time I had 8 pulled. Talk about having no teeth.

 

Damn dude. Never heard of anyone passing out like that. Nothing to be embarrassed about though, totally understandable. I'm afraid to know if I need mine removed or not lol. I gotta ask my orthodontist next time I go.

 

Sorry that your feeling so crappy. I had mine pulled a millineum ago with no adverse effects.

Serious nursing advice....drink more water, not sports drinks or sodas or any thing caffinated. Get up slowly from sitting or laying. It's the combination of blood loss and the pain killers that's making you feel weak, so rest. Don't worry about being malnourished, it actually takes a long time to get to that point, the weight difference is more apt to be fluid loss. Stay on the soups, and you can go to jello, puddings, or mashed potatoes.

Not to mention if you were prescribed antibiotics then you had an infection. It's a wonder your dentist even pulled them if you had any infection. usually the put you on meds for a week then pull the wisdom teeth. I've had 2 of mine pulled a decade ago and it wasn't fun. Not too much pain afterwards ( thanks to my dentist ) still got 2 more but no problems with them. My first 2 were pulled and Tylenol 2 took the edge off..

Plus Tylenol 2 and a beer through a straw= nicely buzz..

 

1. Antibiotics are routinely prescribed preventatively after any invasive oral procedure due to the high risk for infection with an open wound and food and stuff going by.

2. You should never use a straw after having a tooth pulled, you can actually suck off the clot and have substantial bleeding.

 

Absolutley. Antibiotics are prescribed after this kinda thing. Plus alcohol and antibiotics are a no-no. And alcohol with pain killers can be fatal. I keep forgetting this isn't the 80's when Tylenol 2 was considered good drugs.

Bad advice on my part. Anything like percocet, darvocet, loricet, and those type narcotics should never include alcohol, and yes beer is alcohol.

man i know how that feels. i had mine pulled a year ago and i was on the same stuff. i was in my kitchen and i got real hot and everything went orange, then i just passed out. i woke up a few minutes later covered in sweat. i dont think it was from not eating but i think i took 2 within an hour on accident instead of one.

 

I am not going to lie, i lol'd a bit when I read that. Getting your wisdom teeth pulled sucks, but I was moving around just fine after 1 or 2 days, and eating steak before the week was over. I only took the meds for like 2 days; after that I was fine.

 

Mine were no problem also, but he didn't specify if they were pulled or cut out. Depending it can entail much more difficulties later and a longer recovery.

And since Pcola was posting we know he was alright, so I had a little chuckle myself.

Rebel, what I meant to say was that he didn't necessarliy have an infection to be on antibiotics.

Sorry about being all "nurse" but I'm not working and it's killing me not to be a nurse.

 

The top two were fully grown in so they were just pulled, but the bottoms had to be cut out since they were still slightly under the gums. Bottom is where all of the swelling/sensitivity is. Woke up today and my throat hurts like hell under my adam's apple from where I crashed into the damn chair. Now I have that to deal with too..lol. I Just want to go out and do something! Sitting here at home is really aggravating.

 

Take another lortab, you won't care so much.

I had all four of mine cut out about a year ago, didn't have any of the problems your going through. Stay on the fluids, don't suck anything through a straw. If you dislodge that clot you'll regret it. The only problem I had was part of the stiching came loose and it was half way down my throat for half a week.

 

that was me about 4 years ago when I was a sophomore in college. It sucked ***. They say the older you get the worse it is to have them taken out.

 

Hate to break it to you youngsters, but the older you are, the worse all that crap is.

 

Believe that. It takes longer to heal from anything when you pass 45. Plus all the **** that happened to you when you were in your 20's will come back to say hello. I hurt all over some days, not really a disabling hurt, but just an annoying hurt. Like damm I remember when I dislocated my shoulder when I was 22, now my shoulder hurts everyday.. Or even some of the bones I broke when I was a kid, now hurt if the weather is right. Just take care of your knees. Bad knees are the worst..

Hang in there man. About 4 to 5 days after the surgery, you should be able to try something solid. I couldn't take soup anymore so I SLOWLY made myself eat some pizza. It was all downhill from there.

 

Don't I know it. Had knee surgery back in October and it still aint right. Now with the weather getting cold, I just hate getting up.

4 "complete bony impactions" for me when I had mine done...I was out of commission for a week.

 

I had my wisdom teeth pulled about 12 years ago....it wasn't too bad for me, but hated not being able to eat like normal. I had a girl friend in high school who had her wisdom teeth pulled and like an idiot she used a straw and it messed her jaw up. The worst part was I didn't get a BJ for months because her damn mouth wouldn't open very wide. ha ha ha ha
