Will a 5.4 motor fit in my gt?
I was wondering... Once the Track opens back up in Feb... I plan on doing a lot of racing...(legally) So I'm pretty sure I'm gonna eventually blow my lil 4.6 sohc motor.... Will 2003 lightning motor fit in my 2001 gt?
Just curious thanks

Yes, but you will have to use a un godly cowl hood or a open top hoos(edit, what the hell is a hoos? haha: HOOD) like a guy I know, due to the higher deck hight in the 5.4. Remember this though, anything you want to do with a 5.4 can be done with a 4.6, with less headache. Forge a 4.6, add a turbo or what ever( I love turbos and consider them the top of the food chain) and call it a day, your 4.6 block can handle more HP and TQ then you will ever think of making.

In short yes it will fit. i have seen it done in person.
also think 2000 Cobra R 5.4 32v motor. but you will need a bigger hood then the cobra r hood as it has a custom intake manifold made that was lower than the truck intake setup.

There was an article in 5.0 Magazine I believe where they just swapped the bottom end of a 5.4 and made adapter plates for the 4.6 intake. Its possible, but with the money you spend making it work, you could just build a forged 4.6 and either turbo or supercharge it. Good luck,

Thanks guys.. I was just curious...
This is after all the first Ford I've ever owned....
(and in the family)
So how do I go about modifiying my lil sohc 4.6?
Where do I start?
It already has a flowmaster catback and
K&N air filter....
Not sure where to start....
Thanks in advance!

Everything you have is minimal. First you have to decide on what you want to accomplish. A forged bottom end, will support anything you throw at it. How much money are you looking at spending? You need ti decide on what power adder you want, they all make great power, with the turbo being the top dog. It's up to you.

One quick thing... with the larger 5.4L engine wouldn't he get considerably more low end torque? I have seen the dyno of my friends 5.7L GTO at work... it's almost a perfectly flat torque curve... above about 2k RPMs it levels out... that's a TON of low end power for accelerating off the line.
The 5.4L should theoretically give you more "potential". You just have to decide how far you're going. Are you stopping at 400HP... or are you aiming for 1200?

HAha yeah, seeing that the v10 they crammed into the boss 351 isn't anywhere near the same as the excursion v10, which really can't be used at all, I mean I am sure with some fabricating you could do it, but in reality , it's just way too big. You want a v10 from a boss 351? You have a better shot at getting three 00 Cobra R's Your 4.6 is a stout foundation to start with, it's basicly like starting with a Dart or A4 block when building a 302. Which basicly means if you build it right, you can throw everything you have at it and it will take it.
When I say fabricating I mean in all aspects

depending on what you feel like and what your budget is I like the 5.4 swap. But you could also just punch out your 4.6 to a 5.1 Street Fighter I beleive Coast High Performance makes that kit. it's only .3 liters less and you could make gobs of power. Not to mention more low end but hey you punch out that 4.6 to a 5.1 and then strap on a huffer or hairdryer and watch out.
