Default College?

When you were searching for a college did you have one that jsut clicked and you decided on that one or will there be alot that click? I am in Chicago and visited Roosevelt University and everythign about it seems perfect. The dorms are super nice, they have the programs I want, and it is in a perfect area for me. One of only two downsides was that it was going to be about thirty thousand a year for everything but I am already approved for a $14,000 a year scholorship so tuition goes from $19,000 to $5,000 so cost is no longer as much of an issue (There are still more scholorships I plan on applying for). I want to know if i should get my heart set on this place or if I should "keep an open mind". The other issue was the whole car thing, but thats a whole 'nother story. Also anyone go there?

Dude, I just got accepted into Houston Baptist Univ. and like no joke, i'm on the same plate you're in. Sort of. They even offered me 14k too! crazy!

Anyway, I visited the campus and loved the idea of going there. However, I also have the option of UofH. And the way I think I'll narrow my choice is either if i decide what i want to major in and/or who gives me most money. Idk thats just me but, if your gut tells you thats the place, go for it.

Btw, i visited the website and it looks like it has a very cozy atmosphere...lol

i was the same way. visited a lot of colleges, but only one clicked. the price didn't matter in mine, or my parents, opinion. we all wanted me to go to a place i'd be happy learning at.

This makes me feel a lot better, it is my first college visit, and I am only a junior so I was worried i liked it becasue it was the first one. And Jseven there website doesn't do it justice. The entire classroom building looks over Lake Michigan. Also the dorms are two years old, and it is 2-1 girls to boys .

There are so many questions to be asked when about picking a university to attend.

1) do they have your major or other majors you are interested in?
2) how is the social life? (parties, sports, residence life)

and so many more.

Personally, I went to a small university my first year where there was like 4500 undergraduate students. Classes were small, few places to party, no football team....i HATED it. I transfered after one year and I actually love where I go now.

My advice to to you would go visit alot of schools, and some schools have programs where high school kids can stay in the dorm with a college student and see what the life is all about.

I found out that its hard to learn at a school where you aren't happy.

Also bigger universities truly do have more to offer
1)diverse programs
2)many study abroad programs
3)more clubs

I'm sort of rambling on right now, as I am here taking a break with studying for finals.

Anyway. You have time to make a decision and just look at all your options and factors.

That was another thing I liked about it, it has the small class atmoshpere, but it is in a big city so there is tons to do. They also have alot of clubs. There dorms are also shared with two other colleges so the dorms are just like that of a large college. And I plan on continuing looking at other colleges.

I hated the small classroom atmoshpere. It felt like I was still in high school, and I wanted that college feel with large lectures. I was in a big city too, Detroit lol. Terrible city.

But now I go MSU, and I'm in a club "Future Leaders in Sports and Entertainment" and I could never have that at small college. The club is awesome where we do resume workshops with professional sports teams, have guest speakers, and see the business access of sports. MSU's business college is 15th best public one in the country and I can see why.

Flynnster, what do you wanna major in?

Right now it is looking like business, and I am interested in a global type of concentration. MSU is my backyard! And ya I can see Detroit sucking since alot of it is too bad to really just walk around. I will be going to MSU pretty soon, if not for a visit, just to stay with one of my friends or something. And what is your major? Cause to me I would hate all lectures but maybe for your feild it works better?

Im an Accounting major. Our business college, Eli Broad is amazing. I'm a tour guide at the college and next semester I am hosting prospective high school students who wish to visit for the day.

I would do the tour and visit and stay the weekend with a friend. You can sit in lectures if given permission and you will have the entire experience. When I first visited I was amazed how much better this school was than Detroit Mercy University. Detroit offered me money to go there and I did, and it wasn't worth at all. It seemed like a bribe.

U of M aslo has the 2nd best public business school, but when I visited there, they were stuck up and had their heads in their asses. It was a major turn off, but the opportunity probably would have been amazing, and I regret not going there sometimes., but alot of my friends go to MSU.

roosevelt is a pretty awesome school. i know a few people who go there for various things, i almost went there myself. i'm actually starting at columbia (right down the street!) in january. you're not going to need your car (or want it sitting around) downtown. everything is in close proximity and if its not in walking distance, public transit is always close. the universities downtown offer students unlimited CTA cards so you can use public trans as much as you want all year.

I'd keep an open mind. It's always nice to like what you find, but you have to be open to finding something better. Maybe there isn't a better place, but you won't know unless you go around looking at others.

I'd look around, you never know if you're going to find one that you like more. But If your heart is set on a college, go for it. I only ever applied to 2 colleges, OU and MIT. I got into both, but I wanted to play football too, so guess where I chose.
