Dammit!!!

So i wake up this morning and am still only half awake while I look at facebook I clicked on a link that my friend sent me without really looking at it at it turns out to be my friend got hacked and this link sent me to a site that gave me a shit ton of viruses that got past my anti virus (avast) I'm writing this from work cause I can't use the internet from my home computer. I am not a computer guy and I was wondering if any of you guys can tell me what I need to do or even where I should start

3.8LMustang 12-04-2008 07:12 AM

take it to a comp nerd to get it repaired

Lazerred6 12-04-2008 07:17 AM

Thats what my neighbor is but I haven't been able to get ahold of him yet

he has also been one of my best friends since middle school so I can probably get it done for a case of beer

3.8LMustang 12-04-2008 07:28 AM

Then why did you ask in the first place, that sounds like a master plan to me. But hey, since the viruses are already there, it wouldn't hurt to add a few more right ;) time to explore Lazerred6.
:google:

I just wondered if anyone knew anything that I could do that you didn't have to be a computer guy to make work:confused:

Havokk 12-04-2008 08:10 AM

If you have viruses as bad as you made them sound to be, you will seriously need a computer guy. That you know one makes it even better.

Lazerred6 12-04-2008 08:12 AM

Yeah everytime I try to run avast my anti virus all these fake ones override it and try to make me download them

Lazerred6 12-04-2008 08:12 AM

I may have to have my buddy wipe the slate clean and start all over with my computer

That pissed me off to, its pretty clever isn't it. You get nailed with the damn virus then it sends you "alerts" which are really just more viruses, which you immediately start downloading because you think your cleaning your computer. You will not win this won Red, leave it alone and have it looked at.

Lazerred6 12-04-2008 08:24 AM

I was like no fuck you i'm using my own damn security thing and they wouldn't let me exit the window that they were in so I had to ctrl alt delete to get back to my regular screen but if I try to use the internet I get slammed again

If you can figure out what virus it is, sometimes certain ones are popular for a while, you could probbly google it and find steps to remove it. My girlfriends laptop got a pretty bad virus a while back. I took it to an old roomate who is a computer wiz and he fixed it for us but that pretty much what he said he did. With viruses and stuff there are usually more people with them and articles or stuff online about how to get rid of them.

Lazerred6 12-04-2008 08:36 AM

Thats the problem I can't even log onto the internet at home and at work I can't see what viruses I have

WNRacing 12-04-2008 08:59 AM

You need to get the computer in safe mode without networking and run Avast there.

Get your computer nerd buddy to take a look at it.

Lazerred6 12-04-2008 09:05 AM

I have to wait till he gets off work at 5 he is the I.T. guy for part of the grand rapids public school system

Dave04Mustang 12-04-2008 12:27 PM

whenever something gets screwed up on my computer people always just told me to reformat.. that seems to work but I've never had a virus so i don't know

doobie 12-04-2008 12:51 PM

run SuperAntiSpyware. i dont think any of the facebook stuff is ACTUAL viruses, its malware. boot the computer in safe mode (reboot it and while its starting, mash on the F8 key and "Boot into Safe Mode". then run superantispyware in safe mode.

Redrum 12-04-2008 12:57 PM

if u dont know how to boot to safe-mode press F8 when u are booting up

rebelyell 12-04-2008 10:48 PM

Another thing you could try if you have XP is click start, accessories, system tools, system restore, and restore from a day before you got that mess. It's easy and it may wipe out all the stuff that was downloaded. I've used it successfully a bunch of times.. :smokin:

Lazerred6 12-05-2008 05:05 AM

Windows defender and avast took care of most of the stuff and my friend took care of the rest so everything is all good now

Stephen4036 12-05-2008 05:28 AM

was it that your picture was found on "site"

Lazerred6 12-05-2008 06:10 AM

Does anyone know of a spyware program that you can get for free that actually lets you get rid of what it finds cause I still have a few things that won't go away and spyhunter finds them but I don't want to pay to have them removed

rebelyell 12-06-2008 12:19 AM

I think you can get spybot for free, and adaware works pretty good too. It's free also..

King 12-06-2008 07:25 AM

It's more than likely the koobface virus. It was a popular email virus from Myspace years back. I'll read up about it and see if I can find any solutions, but I don't know if it's the same version of the koobface virus or if it's been altered any.

Lazerred6 12-06-2008 07:48 AM

I have the zlob trojan it doesn't do anything that I can see but I won't access any of my online banking stuff just in case it's a key logger

King 12-06-2008 07:50 AM

I'm fairly certain it is. That's what the koobface virus was all about. Still haven't read about any solutions, but I'm looking.

King 12-06-2008 07:51 AM

Laserred, did you have to update your flash or anything like that when you clicked that outside link??

King 12-06-2008 07:56 AM

Here is a little story about how the koobface virus has made it's way to facebook for those interested in learning more about it. I've got something that came up so I've got to leave the situation at the moment, but if anyone wants to take over trying to look for some sort of removal tips of the virus or anything like that feel free. I'll be back on in a little while to check up on the situation and offer any input that I can.
