so, i am currently a sophomore in college at psu as some may know. I started as an engineering major (didnt decide which one, but it was in the college of engineering). i then switched to Energy Business and finance cause i didnt think i could handle the work load of engineering, but at the time that this was going through my mind, i was still a freshman going into the second semester.

since going through 1 semester of business courses (beginning my sophomore year), i can officially say that i absolutely hate it. even though my mind was being strained (ALOT!) as an engineering student, i was trying my hardest. i am not even challenged in the business courses. i dont like the down time for lack of work to do (and im taking 18 credit hours of work, i find myself sitting down with one of my roommates as he does his engineering homework and trying to figure out his homework..not for him though).

I dont wanna waste any more of my parents money but then again, i dont wanna do something that i dont like....

i kinda wanna switch back to engineering...Energy Engineering to be precise.

i dont know, i need some help from you old people to figure out what i wanna do. next semester is filled with all business courses, so if i continue i will be past the point of no return. so i need to make my mind up before the beginning of the next semester (early january)

 

if your parents can afford it it should bother you, if they are tight on money take out a loan, the extra couple thousand is worth a lifetime of an enjoyable job.

 

the amount of money is not a concern for me, there are many ways i can get money, its the concept of my indecision that wasted the money

im gonna call my grandfather tomorrow cause he is the only one in the family i can relate to for engineering decisions being an engineer himself.

I would say that any kinda of knowledge you can gain in school will help you in the working world. engineering is a difficult field to master as well as business and finances.

But you never know, once you do get your career going, what your company may ask you to do. Most companies may require you to multitask in different areas. It's hard to predict what you will be doing with any company these days, so knowing how to do engineering and business finances, may be an employers decision on your net worth. we gotta hire this guy, he can do it all.

Good luck, education in 2 fields will work in your favor at any major corporation. Just my opinion though.

 

The things that come easy to you are much easier to profit from later on in life.

 

I would rather spend 5 or 6 yrs in school to have a job a enjoy, than spend 4 yrs in have and have a job I absolutely hate for the rest of my life.

I've gone to 2 different schools already and this past spring I finally realized what i want to do, and i'm transferring AGAIN.

but like others have said, do what makes you happy and what you enjoy because youll be doing it for quite a while. i switched majors because i absolutely hated the first one.

 

i was just pointed out that i have options within my current major that will allow me to gear the major more towards engineering, i htink i may go that route. still just as difficult and something that id like to do.

now im a lil bit less lost lol

 

you should drop out and become a surf instructor for tourists in the bahamas.

 

i'm an engineer, and i love it. i did facilities engineering and now getting a masters in energy management.

it doesn't matter how many times you switch majors or even colleges, because you should be doing something u enjoy. and besides, don't consider it time wasted. it was time spent figuring out what you didn't like. besides, u may be able to transfer some of those business credits as electives in you major, or even get a minor in business.

 

dude get into a major you actually like. It would be more wasteful of your time and money to have to go back in a few years to get the education you really want if you feel you are wasting your time on business and aren't the least bit interested in it. Go for the engineering since that sounds like something you actually want to do.

 

i agree with everyone, the most important thing is you do something you enjoy.

nobody expects you to know what you enjoy before college, and to change majors and such is pretty much expected as far as im concerned.

in the long run you will go a lot further with a career you enjoy vs a career you dislike.

 

I think pretty much everyone changes their major. I changed mine for the third time and finally know what I want to do and have a plan.

Just major in something that will get you a job once you graduate.

 

Go with what you enjoy man. That's what is most important.
