Default xbox360=Crap!

About a year ago I decided to purchase the xbox 360 over the PS3. I made the purchase, got the xbox home and boom the red ring of death. No big deal, took it right back to the store and they gave me another one. I then decided it would be wise to purchase the 1 year game stop warranty. So fast forward to yesterday....2 months after my 1 year warranty is up.

I'm playing college football and my screen goes blue and it says "no signal". So I make sure all the wires are nice and tight, wiggle the inputs on the back of the tv ect....nothing! So I figure the component cable went bad so I got another one today. Got home, still didn't work. Took the xbox to another tv in the house, same result. So I call xbox tech support and long story short they want me to send it to them along with $100 to fix it.

I'm sorry, but I'm not sending that piece of **** anywhere. I'm taking it back to game stop and getting a PS3. I will NEVER buy another xbox again!

Xbox is so freaking awesome it is even too awesome for itself and it kills itself with a red ring of death as a final tribute to its badassery.

im on my 2nd one. I ended up picking up an elite after the last ring of death.

havent had any problems so far.

I'm on my 3rd 360 (2nd Elite). IMO it's just chance.

They are supposed to be releasing a new version that has a different internal architecture so keep them from being so shitty.

Xbox = Bill Gates = Blue Screen of Death (or red ring of death) = fail.
PS3 = Sony = happiness.

MGS4 is a great game, a few too many cut scenes though...

this information is false.

the elite, and the halo edition, and any other xbox360 console that uses the "Zephyr" chipset and has the HDMI inputs ARE the updated versions with the internal architecture youre talking about.

now, that being said, they just released thier new "Pro" systems, with 60 gig hard drives. but this is more in preparation of the netflix download program and knowing 20gig hard drives just werent going to cut it.

The Elites that have a 175w power supply use the Falcon chipset.

There are 3 more rumored chipsets to come out - Jasper, Opus, and Valhalla

those rumors go back pre-february, they had just upgraded to the Zephyr as of November. Here it is August and they have the new 60gig 175w models and still no chips......

false hope rumors are false IMO

I'm going to take it back to game stop today and see what the options are. I was pissed off last night when I started the thread and still am, but it might be much cheaper just to have xbox fix the damn thing. Maybe find some local place that can fix it??

I have the older generation one with no HDMI cable.....I would LOVE to get a PS3 since I have an PSP as well......we'll see what happens.

Do it. PS3 game rock the house. More war games and first person shooters to pick from too.
Don't get me wrong, the 360 looks fun, but it's a microsoft product. Microsoft doesn't beta test their equipment. That's what they have the general public for. Which is why all of their products are crap for at least two years. Then by the time they get one product good, they phase it out for the newer version that again has not be beta tested. So the process starts over again.

Sony's products have always been very reliable right out of the gate. The biggest problems with the PS3 were 1) cooling - which was fixed and the problem phased out two months after and 2) one version being more popular to the general public. They ended up cutting one line (I believe it was the 60gig one if I'm not mistaken. The 50gig one never made it into mass production).

never had any problems on my original 360 from 2005... however my old (the bulky one) PS2 had the fatal "disc read error problem" that was basically the same thing as the red ring... traded it in on the slim puppy and never had any problems.
My roommate however went through 3 PS2's in the last two years and 3 360's!
Bad luck that kid!

They weren't by chance the ps2 slims were they? That is the only Sony product that I think came out as crap and ended as crap.

I just went over to game stop and brought all my xbox stuff with me including my games.....well, they were only going to give me $50 for the xbox. ha ha ha....yeah, no thanks. So I guess paying $100 to microsoft to fix it isn't looking so bad now. Crap.

I'm sorry, but when it comes to first person shooters, Xbox takes the cake. Thats the main thing on the system. Sony doesnt touch Microsoft in that arena. Take a look at every game that has been released on both systems, I would say at least 95% have been reviewed better on Xbox. I know there are a lot of people that have been partial to Playstation, but until they produce mutliple quality games, you can have it. My friend has always been a Playstation person and he has both PS3 and 360. He currently has 3 games for PS3 and about 6 or 7 for 360. I think it's funny that PS3 has discontinued like 3 models already and it hasn't been out 2 years.

The quit production of the in-between model. The 50gig was never meant to go into production, so I don't know if called that a discontinued model is the right thing to call it. The 30gig was supposed to go into mass production, but after hearing about the lack of room for the games/save/downloads and whatnot, they revamped it to 40gig. But in that entire process, it's been the same processor, same chipset and everything. With xbox, if you compare the first 360 to the ones since February (I think that's the right month) you've got a whole nother animal inside that sucker.

Granted, xbox is good over time. I'm just impatient. Sony gets the job done right the first time.

I'll give Sony credit for not having a failure rate like the 360, but PS2 had several problems when it came out. I remember my friend had to replace a few in a short period of time. We can all argue about whats better, but in the end, it comes down to what you're using it for and what games you like. Its almost as pointless as arguing over a band.

Looks like this is turning into another xbox vs playstation thread! ha ha ha. I have to say I loved the games, and graphics of the xbox, but that doesn't do me any good if the damn thing doesn't work. I have the first generation xbox and I'm paying for it! Complete crap

Is the new Madden all that great really? I haven't played any newer ones since '04. I know there was a ton of hype for '09, but really is it worth the $60?
