If you plan on keeping the car N/A Get 4.30's.

If forced induction is in your future get 4.10's.

Neither will kill your gas mileage on the highway. The only thing that will kill your gas mileage, is with the gears you won't be able to keep your foot out of the gas.

I know these seem to be really steep gears, but the DOHC motor loves the revs. The car should have come factory with 4.10s.

Probably the best mod/$ I ever made to my car.

And why chip a stock Cobra...wait till you get some mods under your belt.

Longtube headers, O/R exhaust, Full CAI, Pullies then a tune.

A well driven 96-98 Cobra with Slicks,(insert 1 bolt-on here), and gears will run 12's.

There are a few guys in these cars going mid-low 11's with just bolt ons.

For example Jim has Pullies, Full CAI, O/R midpipe, Headers, Short Runner Intake manifold, and 4.88 gears, and a tune. He has Tubular K-Member with A-Arms, an H.O. Fibertrends hood, rear seat delete, and some draglite wheels all around with slicks.

His best run to date:
1998 Wingless stock motor N/A 4v Black Cobra
1.51 60ft (1.50 best)
7.20 1/8 @ 95.07
11.31 1/4 @ 120.20
2945 lbs with driver
326hp/305tq

Typically the 96-98 Cobras are a little slower N/A then their 99/01 counterparts due to the cylinder head design. But the 96-98 cars respond better to boost.

Because I can pull the performance out of the chip without the gears...and then have the chip tuned when I get new things.

You seem to forget that I get my chip reflashed and reprogrammed for free...
