Default Went car shopping....

...with a friend today cause his 89 bronco II is dying. it sounds like death, looks like death, smells like death, and is death...lol...this thing is a POS. so we were looking at Jeep Wranglers and came across one...06 inline 4 with a six speed...11k miles for $17xxx...not a bad price if you ask me. (he just wants a wrangler/a car that works)..

so on the way back to the offices, i spot a Silver 06 Mustang GT. Tinted windows, but everything else was stock. 8k miles,5 Speed, Leather interior in the $25k range...you know the deal. so i ask the sales person if i can take it for a test run. and he gave me the keys...i was so surprised, cause it was 2 twenty year olds (im 20 in a month) take a sports car out. and to top it off by ourselves with out the salesman....lol...anyways back to the story

now i am comparing everything to a stock 03

so i started it up and it sounded pretty good for a stock mustang...but that was it...nothing else about the car was nice. The interior felt cheap, cheaper than the 99-04 interiors, the drive by wire was stupid, the clutch was too mushy i guess you can say (but every car is different), the steering was shitty. i liked nothing about it. the shaker 500 sound system was worse than the non-mach sound system i had (the one with no tweeters, no external amps, ect).

when actually driving the car, the car felt big, not nimble like my year mustang. the acceleration was sluggish due to that drive by wire. it takes more rotations of the wheel to get the car to turn and there are even more blind spots in that car than my friends audi TT which has a lot of blind spots.... overall, i think that ford just killed my love for the new mustangs. Its cheap feeling and the performance is very lacking to my standards.

this test drive just reinforces the fact that i will most likely never buy american again.

im certain many of you will hate me for sayin this....but as long as it IS american, its the only thing ill drive. even..............camaros

always get a car made in the continent your in. if u move to europe, drive a bmw...japan, drive a rice box.

unless i move somewhere else, american luxury/american muscle is the only way to go.

hmm that is interesting you hate the interior, alot of people feel it is better then the 99-04's. I haven't been in a new stang yet, or driven one, but would like to just to see how the feel.

their seats are weird...they have little to no bolstering in the *** and a lil in the sides. and i thought that the 94-04 had bad seats, my seats feel like racing seats compared to the 05+

and the next vehicle i buy will be european or jap. they have such better quality cars for the price. i mean a 350z is roughly the same price as the mustang and the interiors are 100% better, they handle ten fold and they have 305 hp. and its a european based jap car.

Funny you feel that way. I shopped for months and just couldn't warm up to the imports. It came down to this GT and a Z28. This car had 75k freeway miles on it,was owned by a woman and it looks new. No rattles or problems of any sort. I have the entire maintainence history on it and other than oil, tires and a battery it's never needed any work. I rented one from Hertz for a weekend and decided I liked it enough to own one. It does have blind spots... So when all the jobs have left America what will YOU do for a living???

omg 75k miles on an 05, makes my 03 looks like a baby with 39k
But yeah, I don't like the interior of the new mustangs as much, but that is because I LOVE the 94-04 interior design... have yet to take one for a spin however...
As for test driving cars being 19, if you pull up in a sports car they would be more likely to let you, but if you were driving his bronco then I question how smart the guy was to give you the keys lol

personally i LOVE the dash on the new mustangs. however i have to agree and comming from a 6'10 person, i feel the leg room has slightly decreased yet headroom has improoved. the seats alone are quite comfortable as long as you got the "gangster lean" thing goin on where ur head is in the back seat. if your sitting normally they feel like wooden kitchen table chairs with a bit of leather and padding on them. they have no give, and feel rather hard. my bum fell asleep after driving an 06 around for about 60 minutes.( i rented one aswell a while ago)

engine wise i would disagree and say it really did have some kick. yea the clutch did feel kinda stickey but i suppose every car needs a few miles on it to break it in.

I agree with you about the Z. My dad has one and the few times I have driven it, has been a treat. The leather is awesome, the seats feel amazing, and over all the interior design and feel is just awesome, very sporty and nice! Also compared to stock mustang brakes, the thing stops on a dime, 1st time I took it out, I kept stopping short because I expected it to take longer. Oh and also the headlights at night are heaven!!! You can see soo far and clearly!

a personal example!!! looky there...lol

Ghost, we were in my sable, which has 2 dents from deer on the drivers side, a lot of junk in the back that i still have to unpack from school....it in better condition than his bronco, but its still pretty rough lol. i really wanted to drive the 07 STi but it had just started to rain as we pulled the 06 into the lot after testing it.

and i still dont like that drive by wire....my mom's passat has it, and my buddies tt and GTI have it....dont like it one bit.

o and Archer1, just so you know, most of Jap car companies plants are here in America while american car companies outsource somewhere else. just an FYI

purestang. i know it is your opinion but i have had both and currently drive an 08 gt and it was designed much better this time around. the interior is a million times better. i hated the rattely interior in my 99 and the clutch being easier and shorter is not a bad thing.

yes, the money for the cars goes overseas....but it gives americans jobs....thats my arguement. i dont care where the money goes as long as our economy doesnt crash and bur and as long as we have jobs...

as for the clutch thing, my clutch is light and firm. this clutch was light and mushy and a much longer engauging point than my mustang, but its all adjustments.....

i do have a question though.... does the 05+ have a hydrolic clutch? if so that could explain the mushy feeling.

this it so very true..I used to work at gary yeomans ford in daytona beach fl which is one of the biggest ford dealerships in fl and i've driven everything there is from mustang gt's to the ford gt. In my mind the the new mustangs are pos's. The drivetrain feels well...sloppy as if to much play in the trans/driveshaft/rear. Steering sucks and well the power is there but still dont make up for everything bad ie the interior. Now when it comes to the GT500 its a competly different story steering is resposive as it should and once the blower is spooled your gone just leave the tcs ON lol same with the rouch 427,damn it did not have the same power as the gt500 but the suspension/tire combo kicks its *** and this is coming from someone who hates roush stangs because they pretty much take a stock gt and put about 10gs in bolt ons and sell it for 30g+ more.

-end rant

oh ps the Ford Gt is the ****

Let's talk facts....

1 - It is hard to now tell what is built here and what is built overseas. My 2007 Chrysler Pacifica was built in Canada. What does that make it? My american owned Saab was built in Swedan.

2 - Many Japanese cars are built in Mexico and in the US by American workers.

3 - The US car companies are in the **** hole right now. Not because they make crappy cars, but because the Unions lack the ability to adapt to a real, Lean manufacturing approach.

So, that leaves it to the consumer. Despite all this, people chose what they want. Me? You won't find a car in my driveway from a Japanese company....at least not yet.
