No, he was right, it only makes sense in reference to light, or reflecting. White is a combination of all colors of light, black is the absence of all light. As to why white reflects and black absorbs. Remember, things only appear a certain color because they reflect that color.

Thats not darker..I'm thinking about a DHG ..keep it green, just darker.
Apparently, the color green I have isn't a ford color..
Found that out from when I had to have my side painted after the wreck..
Required...Fords electric green..(babyshit green for jack) but some other color to put the darkness to it.

Black just looks for reflective than white. But with the same glossy finish they will reflect the same amount of light, just different waves so that's why you wont see it as so "reflective". Same reason you can see yourself in a black computer screen rather than a bright white one. Too complicated for me to answer, but maybe explains a little.
