Do you have another car as a DD or beater?
Hey all, I was wondering how many out there have another car they use as their daily driver. Also, if you'd like, post what your DD or beater is. I consider a DD/beater as what you generally take to work
example,
YES, my stang is my primary car, but i have a 90 civic that i call my snow-mobile.... needless to say what i use it for

heck yeah...my dd is a 2001 corolla that takes the beating so my 2006 gt can stay hot...that corolla is awesome...the gas gauge never moves...it gets frigid in the summer and scaldin in the winter...the ride is smooth...the stereo is loud...it handles snow like a sleigh...that lil **** car is such a joy....my mustang only comes out for road trips and street races

i just enjoy driving my stang so much, thats why its still my DD, that and its still under warranty until 180Kmi.
fuel economy stinks, especially compared to my civic but dam its worth it

lol, purchased used in june, bought 100Kmi warranty for 1K, total 8K$.
not too bad if you ask me....
IIRC, the warranty is by the "interstate battery" company.... IDK
all i know is it covers engine and drive train for 100K; so long as i show every oil change.

With the honda it is a pretty easy task, the only specialty took you need is a ball joint seperater, other than that a socket set, torquebar, screqsrivers and pliars are all you need. engine is light enough that with a couple friends and some tiedowns you dont even need a cherry picker.

hmph, got time for a swap? lol
ive either got a stuck valve or burnt rings.... cant get the dam thing to emissions cause the smoke.... so, drive in the snow and less likely to get pulled over... lol

Seriously, are you sure?
My DD's are a 2007 Pacifica Limited AWD and a 2003 Saab 93

Im sure you can get a 6er real cheap.

You might want to check that warranty again....I have NEVER seen a warranty last to 180k miles. I have only ever seen warranties go to 100k. Usually when you buy a used car and get a 100k warranty, it means when the car hits 100k total miles.

Yes, my daily driver is a dark grey 1998 Audi a4 1.8t quattro. Thing is goddamned amazing in the snow, rain, and dry. Only problem is its goddamned slow to get up to speed. Doesn't feel anywhere near as slow as it is, but a 9.5 second 0-60 time doesn't lie. It is happier on the highway though... Only drive the stang when I come home on long weekends and such if the weather is clear enough!

Make sure you are 100%. Consumer Reports as well as other angencies recomend that you only purchase a warranty from the manufacturer. This is about the #1 area of consumer complaints. Most of these comapnies are fly by night and often times don't exisit when you need to file a claim, and then pop-up under another name.
The dealer where I service my Saab no longer accepts ANY non-Saab warranty claim unless the owner pays for the work first and then tries to get reimbursed because they had too many blls that never got paid by companies that are out of business.
I have doubts that the warranty will cover anything up to 180k miles. Be sure to read the fine print. I can pretty much guarentee then even if they do, they would never pay for a claim that exceeded the value of the car.
For example, let's say you have 110k miles on it and the car is now worth $4k. If the motor and tranny blows, rather then replacing it, they would buy the car back from you and close-out the policy. This would really be best case scenario. Warranty companies will never pay more to fix something then the item is worth.
This would not necessarily be a bad thing, as it would be better to get $4k then have a worthless car, right? But, it sure kind of misrepresents what you think would happen.
It will be interesting in a few years to see how owners of Chrysler products make out with their lifetime powertrain warranties. As an owner myself, I will be keeping an eye on this. There is a lot of fine print even with these warranties.
If you can, read your warranty and let us know on the mileage issue. Call them and see what they say and then let us know. I think this would be good info.

My winter beater gets worse gas mileage than my stang... it's all psychological. After a long, horrible gas mileage winter, my mustang feels like a hybrid. The beater is a 1995 Silverado 1/2 ton Ext. Cab. 206,XXX miles and counting!
