Support Our Troops
Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock, did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she took all of the desks out of the classroom.
The kids came into first period, they walked in, there were no desks. They obviously looked around and said, "Ms. Cothren, where's our desk?" And she said, "You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn them."
They thought, "Well, maybe it's our grades."
"No," she said.
"Maybe it's our behavior."
And she told them, "No, it's not even your behavior."
And so they came and went in the first period, still no desks in the classroom. Second period, same thing. Third period. By early afternoon television news crews had gathered in Ms. Cothren's class to find out about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of the classroom. The last period of the day, Martha Cothren gathered her class. They were at this time sitting on the floor around the sides of the room. And she says, "Throughout the day no one has really understood how you earn the desks that sit in this classroom ordinarily." She said, "Now I'm going to tell you."
Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it, and as she did 27 U.S. veterans, wearing their uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. And they placed those school desks in rows, and then they stood along the wall. And by the time they had finished placing those desks, those kids for the first time I think perhaps in their lives understood how they earned those desks.
Martha said, "You don't have to earn those desks. These guys did it for you. They put them out there for you, but it's up to you to sit here responsibly to learn, to be good students and good citizens, because they paid a price for you to have that desk, and don't ever forget it."

"In memory of those who led the good life, fought the good fight, and made the ultimate sacrifice.
May we never forget."
My thanks goes out to all who have served for and sacrificed for all of the citizens of our great nation, you folks who have volunteered your lives to serve for our people deserve much more respect and thanks than any of us could ever conjure up.
My hat is off to you.

Many years ago my forebears came to America as immigrants as did all whose offspring populate the United States, with the exception of the Native Americans who were here before any of us.
America became a melting pot of human beings from every continent on earth coming to the New World to find something that was missing in their lives. Maybe it was religious freedom, maybe it was opportunity or perhaps it was to escape from a system where the ordinary man had no chance of ever rising above the condition he was born in.
In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, after the shameful state of slavery had been abolished, our shores were flooded with German, Irish, Scotch, Russian, Italian and just about every nationality coming to America, bright eyed with enthusiasm and eager to stake out their claim to a piece of the boundless prosperity this young land represented.
They brought their Irish jigs and Polish polkas, their music, their food and their dreams along with other bits and pieces of their culture, which so uniquely identified them.
But in spite of their love for the fatherland, no matter how much they missed and revered the old country they all understood that to get ahead in America the answer was to assimilate.
Immigrants went to great lengths to learn and speak English in their homes, making sure that their children spoke the language of their new homeland and no matter what their heritage they transferred their allegiance and their national loyalty and respect to this land known as the United States of America.
They fought her wars and abided by her laws. They settled her frontiers. They farmed and ranched and manned the assembly lines. They became butchers, bakers, tailors, policemen, lawyers, surgeons and a thousand other occupations that went to make America the greatest military and economic force the planet had ever known.
We should and do take pride in our heritage and the customs of our forefathers but personally I believe that there comes a point when we have to put that all behind us and become first and foremost, an American.
What does being an American mean? Is there a national profile of an American?
Of course not, we are as diverse as the flowers, fair and swarthy, black and brown and white.
Being an American to me means that we rise above our diverse nationalities, our differences of opinion and our allegiance to
other flags.
Being an American doesn’t mean that we have to agree with everything our government does, but it does mean that we never take sides with a foreign government against our own.
If your sympathies and allegiance are with another country
then perhaps you could consider moving to that country.
Pray for our troops.
What do you think?
God Bless America

Remember,

It was the Veteran, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to demonstrate.
It is the Veteran, who salutes the flag,
who served under the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Iraq is not a lost cause yet there government is vary corrupt and we have made good things happen.
#12
Also... Maybe you should take the time and learn a little about NAM and Iraq... they are very different... they have nothing in common...
#13
Please... keep that bullshit out of the thread... Either you support the troops or you don't. Notice this thread isn't in the politic forum?

Iraq is a lost cause, it's not our business, not our place, to be there telling them what to do and how to run it.
Once again, it's the American Government bullying the rest of the world into doing what we want.
Just cause you're brainwashed doesn't mean it's bullshit.

I can support my troops without supporting my government and the poor choices my government makes. As a former soldier, we have to follow orders, whether we like them or not, and whether we agree with them or not.
So with that said, I will always back the military, but not the pencil dick paper pushers in washington who play God with other people's lives.
Let me know when you serve 4 years in a military branch of service (not the Coast Guard either). Marines, Army, AF, or Navy.
Little civilian pukes like you don't know your *** from a hole in the ground.

Like I said... this thread isn't in the politic forum... so take your **** there...
Why did we move into NAM? To hold the line against the spread of world Communism. America paid for the war the fought against Communist Vietnam as a part of the Truman Doctrine (1947) “to protect free peoples…” and by the 50's began fighting.
Another reason was so that the USA had some power in the east...
Now... why are we in Iraq?
Iraq is just like Nam?
hm... ok... I'm brain washed because I have a better knowledge of American History...

its not our job to babysit the damn world...the cold war is over. Communism was never a threat, historians said it for years when it first came out. They all said it would never last, and looky, it never really did spread and infect the rest of the world...so Truman's Doctrine was way out in left field. Go figure.
Iraq was better off with Saddam in charge believe it not...now those people dont have the slightest clue how to do anything. and why? all because big bad George W Bush having to go clean up daddy's mess.
why don't you take your **** somewhere else newbie. someone with only 14 posts doesn't have a voice on here, that amounts to anything.

my point exactly...so we have power...so we can push people around and tell them what to do.

Back on track... I proved that you wrong... I showed you how Iraq and Nam have nothing in common... so you argue that since I have a low post count I am wrong... Thats the liberal thing to do...
And Iraq was better off with Saddam? lol... Isn't that the guy that used bio and chem weapons on them? Isn't that the guy that they hung? Oh yeah... It is... wow... Go figure... Really fucked that one up... Now they don't have the pleasure of living in fear of their government nor do they have to worry about their own leader blowing up their home because of something they said... Morons...
Congratulations... You are a dick wod... you score no points and may god have mercy on your pathetic soul...

You really do say some ignorant things. So anybody who dies while serving in the coast guard doesn't count? The coast guard is a part of the military, and their service is just as important, even if you don't think so.

as for the "you don't know who i am" line...i couldn't really give a **** either.

I do know our history, very well. As it's being proven right now, history tends to repeat itself. Iraq is Vietnam in the desert. We don't know who the enemy is, where they or when they will strike. They are among the civilians, they arre disguised as police, as women, and even children.
Once again we're in another country fighting a war we can't win, and a war we won't win.
Apparently it also repeats itself with in your family, because you apparently come from a long line of idiotic and stupid people. Do the world a favor, get yourself fixed and dont reproduce.

I think what MixedBreed is trying to say is that the coastguard doesn't get sent overseas like the other branches, so the pencil pushers don't really control them like the other services.
I for one really don't care for the gov't right now either, but I support the troops 100%. And then some, if thats possible.
I love that last pic BTW, spent 4 years in the Corps and that one hit home with me.

i think one of the reasons this iraq thing wont go away is historically way back in the day an army would beat the tar out of the other army and the leaders would learn thier lesson.
welp... we already killed the people we were trying to teach a lesson to.
as for weather or not iraq is better off with saddam, at least saddam scared the people enougth to keep them in check.
honestly i dont give a **** about the iraquies, i would rather see 10,000 of thier civilian population slaughtered than to see one american soldier killed.
