Just a warning for VA Drivers
Take a look at the new fundraising efforts by the state.
http://www.courts.state.va.us/publications/hb_3202.pdf
Summary:
If you are convicted of a misdemeanor driving offense the state is going to levy an additional penalty to pay for transportation projects. This only applies to VA residents. Some examples:
Driving on suspended license: $750 + court costs and fines
Reckless driving (speeding 20+) $1050 + court costs and fines
DUI: $2250 + court costs and fines
Any other driving related misdemanor: $900 + court costs and fines.
The new fines go in to effect for crimes committed on or after 7/1/07. These additional fines can not be reduced or suspended by the courts.

You realize its for juveniles only...right?
"The civil remedial fees will be assessed against juveniles who have been found delinquent because they committed one of these motor vehicle-related or driving felonies or misdemeanors. The civil remedial fees will not be assessed if the juvenile court defers a final judgment against the juvenile and does not find the juvenile to be delinquent."

VA has always been tough on speeders and traffic violators. NC is starting to get like that now too. In fayettenam, we used to be able to get out of a ticket for a $500 attoeney fee. No ticket, No points, all paid in full. Not anymore. Even 1st time speeders 15 mph over posted speed will suffer the ticket cost, plus the insurance points, Lawyer will do you no good. I try to stay in the 10 mph over range but still get antsy even when I'm doing the speed limit.

You should try living there. I lived there a good majority of my life. The only thing you can get away with there as far as driving goes doing 5 over the speed limit. Because the judges get pissed off at the cops if they bring anyone in for that amount or less. They say it's wasting their time. But it is a beautiful place to live with the Blue Ridge Mountains and the scenic Parkway.
