Default Help with present (alarm system)

Not really an area for this on the boards I guess.. but...

anybody know much about car alarm systems? doing christmas shopping for the boyfriend and he owns a 07 ford fusion and he was asking me about good car alarms (which i know nothing about). he's extremely picky so i want to get something REALLY good. is viper pretty much the best brand or is there others i should check out? i'd like to get a brand that we carry at work that way i can use teh discount! lol and im guessing i need to make sure the alarm system will work for his car? lol

Viper is a sub-company of Directed Electronics which is a huge manufacturer of car audio, car video, and car security. Basically any good alarm is from them. I would get something with an LCD display like the Viper Responder SST. It has a visual LCD screen that tells you if car is locked/unlocked, armed/disarmed, running/not running, and if alarm goes off, it will tell you where it was triggered and page you. It has a 1 mile radius blah blah blah. check it out, and yes, itll work. Plus theres a few models you can check out.

Ask which ones you want explained... and shock sensor is just a sensor that senses disruptions like a loud stereo system, loud car door slam, loud exhaust. Some sort of noise or abruption your car's sensor will pick up. It also senses bumps or nudges made to your car as well.

6 channels is so someone comes up with their remote and opens your car. it jumps frequencys.

defroster output just is an option (or full time) to turn defroster on when remote starting ones vehicle. useful in winter, obviously.

turbo timer is for turbo equiped (usually modified) cars. they generate quite a bit of heat and letting your car idle helps the turbo disapate heat so you dont burn oil or harden it. you can remove your keys and lock your car and itll keep running on the timer which is usually a minute or two.

Im not sure what comfort closure is but total closure is where your windows, sunroof will close when your vehicle is armed. im sure comfort closure is something similar.

That's the same one I have. I bought it about 15 months ago and never had a problem.

The two way pager eats up AAA batteries though. It only takes one battery, but only lasts about 3 weeks. I got fed up with it and bough AAA duracell recharables.

I didn't click those links, so I don't know if there were prices listed. But I got mine brand new off Ebay for $210. When I bought it, there were tons available on Ebay brand new.

Also, I paid a very reputable shop to install everything it came with. It took them 15 hours, yea 15! He said the wiring was very complex with the mustang and so forth. Anyways, charged me $200 for install and I've been a happy camper ever since.

O, and when you install it, there's a little wheel of some kind that you can adjust to adjust the sensitivity of the alarm. Mine isn't real sensitive so whenever a loud car, airplane, anything like that goes by, mine doesn't go off.

Yeah, an alarm is something you want to leave up to someone who knows what they are doing. you can make one splice wrong and youll never figure out why the vehicle doesnt run or some other wacky problem.

i believe its called a viper 791xv or something. top model at best buy. has the lcd screen. its a remote start, alarm, and keyless entry. just call best buy mobile installation and ask them if your gunna need any extra parts cuz when you buy it, it says itll cover basic installation, but alot of cars need a bypass mod. i kno some of the newer fords have some kind of "special" door locking system so you might need a part for that.

Yea, that model number sounds right.

I now remember that when I had mine installed, they need my spare key so they could take the chip out that's in the key for the remote start. once it was all programmed, then they put the chip back in the spare key.

I like Clifford which is the sub from DE company. I have been keeping my eye on the Avantiguard 5.5 which has a 1 mile radius current alams have 1/4m radius but rumors are around that the its not working as promised so it has been delayed many times.
