Default what camera to get?

alright, my lil bro is looking to get a good camera this christmas...he wants something around $300 that has 6+ megapixels, good optical/digital zoom, can be used with a pc, and is durable...alos, is it possible to find a camera that can also be used as a video recorder? if so, plz recommend anything that fits this description? much appreciated!

i think most point and shoot digital cameras these days have a video option but ususally the quality isnt the best ... anything by canon would be good imo ... my point and shoot nikon just broke

I have a Digimax L55w 5 MP that's really nice. It's definately on the upper end of the 5MP's range. I got it for $200 off ebay brand new. I think at Best buy it's like $350.

I don't know about most, but I know on mine the length of the video revord depends on the picture card size. The one that came with my camera was 8MB and could take about 1 min. of video. I now have a 512MB card and I can take 1 hour of video. Not to bad. Video quality is pretty decent and sound recording is great.
