Default 97 LS1 Camaro cammed....

Theres one in my area that drives by my house all the time. I know it's a 97 with an ls1, exhaust, possibly cammed. How fast should this thing be?

The first year for the camaro to have the ls1 was 98! 97 fbodies were all lt1's..only vettes had the ls1 in 97! Now if you are mistaken, and its a cammed 98, well ls1's can make anthing from 380-430 rwhp from a cam alone plus all needs mods of course..i.e...full exhaust, tune, lid, etc...

A friend of mine just got his LS1 01 SS Camaro back from the shop. HE got the following done (had SLP LM1 CB before this work was done):

New LS1 Block (slung a rod in his old one at 58k miles)
Custom Grind Cam
Ported TB
U/D pullies
Pace LT headers
Pace catted Y pipe
SLP Lid
Programmed/Dyno Tune

He put down 400.15 rwhp, can't remember the exact tq.

lt1's are slow unless they have a lot of work done... if it really is cammed then i would like to see what other mods he has. if it just sounds cammed because of the exhaust then dont worry about him.

As much as I respect the power of teh LS1, those cars still sound like pure ***. I don't think I could ever get used to that exhaust note. At least they don't sound as chitty as the WRX STI. I plain hate the pissy exhaust note those have. But again, I respect the power.

LT1s are good engines... fact of the matter is stock for stock they are faster then us... but camaros are also like boats and uncomfy and not so great lookin IMO

and just like us... they have restrivtive heads...

so if he has cam... then he has a new valve train... and possibly heads... personally I wouldn;t do cams w/out heads...

so I'll guess he's a low 13... at least

they sound like *** cause they don;t make a mid pipe for em... the all have Y pipes... no true duals... and they have a huge muff... usually an SLP muff... SLP was made popular my camaros/ firebirds... cant fit an H or x on em... and LTs are rather tuff and most owners don't want to bother w/ em... the stock manifolds flow perty well though

LT1's dont make much power with boltons and minor internals. I've seen a few on the dyno only push out 320-340hp with work done. Thats what LS1's do stock.
