Default Hunters come on in

So i was reading a post in which r3dn3ck posted that he hunts (and takes his mustang) and i was wondering how manny hunters we have here, and were/what do you guys hunt? and what rifles do you use? bow? mussleloader?

Personally im from the florida keys but my father has taken me hunting since i was 10, i hunt in southern Georgia for whitetail, i'll go hog hunting every now and then but my passion is for the whitetail deer.

I hunt with my remington model 7 7mm-08, I just got a NICE louphold scope for my b-day! the rifle is a bit overkill because most of my shots are short range (due to that i hunt in close wooded scenarios most often.

I have a bow and a mussleloader but i've yet to take them out into the woods

So who else?

Dont hunt, but Im going plinking this afternoon with my dad at the gun range. To me, hunting is boring, as I get nothing in return unless I kill something, which doesnt always happen, where as the gun range, those targets are DEAD!

I hunt.

Haven't bow hunted for deer in a few years, hope to again this year.

My deer rifle is a Browning BAR in 7mm Rem. Mag.

Also hunt turkeys during the spring season. Use a Mossberg 500 for that (nice and light for trucking around the woods). I prefer turkey hunting over gun deer hunting. So much more skill required and the weather is usually nicer. Plus, the gobbling of turkeys in the woods at sunrise is just too cool.

Small game, etc...yup.

here's my dad's and mine from last gun season (his is on left, 10 points, mine on right, 8 points)

7mm mag is quite a round, then again you have some big bodied deer in WI.

Nice bucks!

Mostly in Gwinnett and Barrow. But I have gone to Occonee, JAckson, and a couple other counties a few times. Starting to run out of land though, a lot of places we usually hunt on are now turning into subdivisions!!!!!! DAMMIT!

my parents hunt a LOT! I used to when I was younger but not anymore, I just dont have the time. my parents hunt mostly in montana, mexico, georgia and north florida. I remember, we used to lease very large pieces of land (anywhere from 10,000 acres to 100,000 acres) so that we could set them up for hunting every year. they also own a lot of land in a lot of places that is only used for hunting.

I hunt deer and turkey thats it, and the occasional squirrel and rabbit. Use a 20 gauge remington 870 for deer and an old 16 gauge single shot for turkey.

I would hunt like all other rednecks but the fact that the limit is a semi automatic weapon with no more than 5 rounds in the mag is what stops me....if I was out there it'd be with an AK-47 with a 30 round hicap blowing the crap out of bambi's momma.

I do target shoot though, I think it's ok.....I'd rather shoot at moving targets though

i hope your kidding, if not, that is one of the most retarded things i have ever heard. . . . A real hunter does not need more then 1 shot to take down a deer or any non-winged animal. I have taken my share of deer and i have never shot more then once. Someone taking out a semi-auto and letting rounds fly left and right should never be alloud to hunt.

Yes, I was kidding.

I'm not really into the stalking of hunting, well...you don't stalk in most hunting but you do a lot of waiting, my patience runs out on waiting for something in around 2 - 3 hours, and the animal will most likely be pretty far away...everyone uses fancy 300-1000$ optics and IMO that really takes away from the...glory of killing the mark, so I don't really get into it...I don't like the aid of optics on weapons to help, sure you could use the irons but that's tough if you have only 1 shot with no bipod or anything to stabilize the weapon with, so I never really got too interested in hunting. I'm more of a suppressive lead hose style shooter than a sharpshooter.

if you were kidding then sorry i snapped, i just dont like seeing hunters given a bad name.

I enjoy hunting partially because of the wait, kinda gives me time to sit and think . . but as for the optics etc. its a trade off, Maybe its more glorious wihtout it, but without it you might stand the chance of fatally wounding an animal and not being able to retrieve it, which is very bad.

That's true, but I probably wouldn't fire at something unless I knew I could hit it in an area that takes it down..I don't really like to take guessing shots..

here's an aftermath pic from when I went to the local range a few years ago..yeah the 10/22 has a scope on it, but it's an 8$ x7 scope from walmart that has since been removed and destroyed in something else, hehe. The scope wasn't zero'd in, was shooting high and to the left.

I was shooting at 100 yards from a standing/unsupported position, so some shots missed or didn't hit the black. An SKS was also used in that as well as the Mauser and 10/22.
