What is your gas mileage and what grade do you use

my 98 GT got me like 200 miles on a tank middle grade...

my 2002 v6 got me 204 miles on a tank.. wtf (filling fuel light to fuel light)

Im still running tests on mileage. Whats your average mileage?

ThePunisher 03-30-2005 04:10 PM

My 2001 GT auto gets an average 19-20 mostly around town driving on 93 octane.

Islander03GT 03-30-2005 04:45 PM

I get about 17mpg. 270 miles to a tank on average, 91 octane.

I dont understand how so many people get 200 mi to a tank on their Stangs. Do you guys drive it floored everywhere?

02wt5sp 03-30-2005 04:55 PM

I get about 250 on a tank(all city driving), and use the recommended 87 octane

tedinde 03-30-2005 05:02 PM

268miles per tank after the 4.10 gears and 248miles per tank with the 3.27's. I dont run it dry, my gas gauge is a bit off. 14 to 15 gallons of gas when it's on empty. But i know i have a 20 or 21 gallon tank when i read the manual. My guage is funny, it gets to empty, then starts going back up to over a 1/4 tank then i know it's really empty.

Thats driving mine hard, are u guys running around in 1st or 2nd gear getting only 200 miles per tank on those V6's or do the V6's have a lot smaller tank??

I know i could easily get into the over 300 miles per tank if id stay out of it. Im not on the highway much, that's why im getting better gas mileiage out of the 4.10's than my 3.27's

I get a lot better gas miliage on my 87 octane tune on my SCT 4 position chip i noticed.

mike sweeney 03-30-2005 05:21 PM

I got an average of 23 MPG last year running 91 Octane fuel. After installing the Diablo tune My mileage increased from 21 to 23 which made up for the added expense of buying 91 octane over 87.

The older ones have that big of a tank? Mine has 15.7 gallons

MattJ 03-30-2005 05:31 PM

170m a tank driving normally.

98silvergt 03-30-2005 07:54 PM

i am currently at 100.7 miles at exactly half tank in my 2002 v6. No mods, stock, driving like a granny.

i believe there are 14 gallons.

no hwy driving. basically stop lights every 2 minutes. In houston tx

Jack The Ripper 03-30-2005 08:00 PM

I run 91 oc.

I made the mistake of putting in a tank of 91 and have never been able to go back to 87 again. My baby seems all groggy and tired on 87. When it costs close to 30 bucks to fill the tank, and extra couple bucks really doesent matter much.

Livin at 6,000 feet altitude, not sure if that affects mileage or not.

I was pullin maybe 250 -260 miles on a tank, after i got my straightpipes and an xpipe put in it dropped to under 240 miles per tank.

I really love the way it sounds, but im tempted to pick up some Mac mufflers and have em welded on.

I just want it to sound as good as it does now, but if i can pick up a couple HP and some extra mileage then hey. Why not.

98silvergt 03-30-2005 10:41 PM

my 98 gt never got over 200 miles in a tank. wtf is going on!?

stealth stang 90 03-31-2005 12:47 AM

man thats some pathetic gas milage My 90 with heads cam intake and 3.73 gets 25 mgh highway cruising at 80mph and about 17 city and i run 93 octain

04DarkShadowGT 03-31-2005 05:09 AM

I get 25-26 highway and have got 28mpg once. Usually I get 22mpg under normal mixed driving. I always use 87 octane. Average 300 miles/tank and have got as much as 350.

I have Exhaust, CAI, and plenum.

madmatt 03-31-2005 05:33 AM

Highest EVER gotten was 210 on a tank for me. Thats a mix of babying it and flooring it. I do nothing but city driving, dont know why you guys get 50 miles more than I do, just sucks.

venom 03-31-2005 05:41 AM

Same here about 200 but I see alot of traffic. I guess it depends on how much traffic you see as your car will be at idle longer.

Chopper 03-31-2005 06:00 AM

After one year of testing this on the same road under the same conditions,55-60 mph, level road, and no hard acceleration,I can get 29.8mpg.One hard pass and the mpg's drop to 28.8 for the tank.So you see how driving hard can eat up gas.I just installed a Bassani cat back and that increased my mileage 1 mpg.I'll be installing a Steeda timing adjuster in a few days and i'll let you all know how it affects the car also.

damn how do u get that off a GT? almost 300 miles a tank! My bros civic gets something like that

i guess traffic does play a role. Im stuck in a lot of it. Literally every couple minutes theres a stop light.

Islander03GT 03-31-2005 08:26 AM

I've gotten over 300 to a tank on a road trip to Vegas. And that was cruising at 90.

In all reality this gets nearly as good mileage as my Old Civic 2000 SI (30mpg) and Sentra Spec V (28mpg)

Im pretty happy with its mileage for a V8 and I am not exactly nice to it either.

spike_africa 03-31-2005 11:37 AM

my car gets 26-29 mpg on the highway. i get over 300 on the highway most of the time. and in the city i get around 16-19 maybe some of use just have better cars :laughing7 j/k

98silvergt 03-31-2005 02:42 PM

i still dont understand it. at my current mileage and fuel left, it will be around 200-210 miles for the whole tank. Not sure whats going on.

And the one im driving is a v6

Jack The Ripper 03-31-2005 03:05 PM

i think it largely depends on your mods and driving habits. If i drive like a grandma i can get about 250 on a tank, but if i drive aggressivly i can burn a whole tank in under 200 miles.
With the straightpipe exhaust i have the only thing giving backpressure is the cats... this really lets me burn through a tank quick if im not careful

98silvergt 03-31-2005 06:41 PM

something must be wrong since this time around on my full tank i am driving like a grandma, no hard accelerations at all, very slow start ups and everything. No mods. i try to keep constant speeds and try not to break as often.

All this and yet it still is going to be about 200 and no more than 210.

And this is my v6 01 not my v8 98.

Only negative thing about the car is my rear tires are quite close to bald while my front are brand new. This may play a factor.

Btw i love the MT boards :icon_thum

Jack The Ripper 03-31-2005 07:08 PM

Maybe you need a tuneup or something. that does seem pretty low

Islander03GT 03-31-2005 11:23 PM

Tune up, air pressure in your tires, too much crap in your car, the alignment of the planets

all have an effect on your mileage.

82GT 04-06-2005 08:43 PM

My 82GT gets 10mpg...yes, I said 10 and my '88GT get about 250 miles to a tank of gas and 300 if on interstate driving.

Man that is incredible.
I have never seen over 250 on a tank since i modded my 04 GT. And i dont exactly floor it around everywhere. With the straightpipe setup i got, if i floor it around every cop in denver hears it and gets a big chub to write me a ticket. I think i saw 260 on a tank ONCE when it was still stock.

I wonder what 6,000ft altitude does for gas economy.

In fact, i found a 93 Honda Civic DX for $2500 that im gonna go pick up next week, the main reason for that is the 34/40mpg on the civic plus i would like to keep the miles off my stang that i rack up going to work and back, almost 40 miles a day. Keep the stang as a weekend/rec car. Plus stangs totally suck in snow, and we get plenty of that stupid white crap up here. i hate snow!

They say gas is supposed to hit $4/gal in some parts of america. Were already at $2.40 for prem. That civic will pay for itself by the end of this summer. LOL

Islander03GT 04-09-2005 12:05 AM

$2.40 for premium? thats cheap.

MattJ 04-09-2005 04:42 PM

2.40 for 87 here...
Man ive never seen 200 mpg in my car and thats all city driving... I think my air filter could use a cleaning though too...

spike_africa 04-10-2005 09:38 AM

i just did a trip and with full city i got 19mpg with alot of wot and one night of drag racing lol man i love my car more and more :)
