What to do with a Mustang
Currently, I have an 01 gt. It ahs the usual laundry list of mods, no cams or supercharger or anything that expensive. I was really leaning towards buying a supercharger this next spring, but then I got to thinking:
I only drive automatics. I can't stand manual. I know, I know, please don't bash me.:dots:
unless I spend alot of money on other mods, I am probably only going to get around 375hp max out of the SC.
The car has 70k miles on it.
It is paid off. The supercharger plus install would be around 6-7k dollars.
Should I just wait until early spring of 08 and buy a used 05?
300hp right off the bat. proably aroun 30k miles on it. My guess is that a used 05 will be in the 16-18k range by then.
Similar mods to what I have already would cost less than 1k dollars if I do it right.
so should I drop the money now, or save it up, and sell the 01 in a couple years, and use that money towards the new GT?

If you've got so much into your car now, why start fresh with an 05?? 375hp max?? lol Dude, go check out the modular powerhouse forums.

You get the right tuner, and he'll squeeze every bit out. Besides, you need to take into account the amount of boost you'll be running, etc etc etc. Don't just max yourself out at 375. Up to you though.

The new stang has 300hp, not too bad, really feels like mid 200s, but when the stock Z28 hits the streets at 400hp (stock) it's the same old story...

The companies are afraid of having another muscle car war. Think of the gas price now, if they were to have another one, it'd be crazy. Plus, if cars came stock with 500 or 600hp, then everyone would have a fast car. Alot of people buy Mustangs and Camaros just because they like the style. Not everyone wants a 500hp car. Not to mention, the aftermarket companies would take a hit as would Ford Racing, etc etc etc. Your car is only as fast as you plan to make it. It all takes money, whether you're dropping $30k - 40k on a 400hp Camaro or buying an older car and dropping $15 - 20k on mods.

I agree with you that 500-600hp is not for the factory to put in all cars. I just feel ford made a mistake with the 4.6. I have two of these cars. I like the style and look over the past F-bady GMs, if not I'd have two of them. I just wish ford would have put the 5.4 ( some CID to work with) in 99 like they talked about all though late 97-98. The stock 260hp 4.6 is weak, we all know it. Yes the aftermarket is great (thank God) at taking our $ for HP. I'm happy with my 04GT, over 300hp @ the fly. Should have started @ 300! IMO.
I said I'd take flack!!! Sorry it is the :wrongforu .

Wants a new car. The Ford dealer here just put a new GT out she's going to check out. Grey, with some body kit, wheels, hood, and other stuff I saw as we drove by. It looks great, not that cheap dealer added look. She just doesn't like the inside of the new ones. I like it!!

The reason i mentioned 375 tops is because that is what Tim told me on MPH.
Unless I got crazy and did more stuff to the engine, 375 is the safest he could pull out of an auto.
now, 6k for about 100 hp on an older car like the 01,
or get a way newer one with 300 and do bolt ons to get to 375?
If I sold mine in a couple years, and bought the used 05, i would have between 8k-10k still to pay on it.
I odn't like the Camaro. Now if they build that TA, I would be interested.

Stop with the bolt-ons. Gears, shifter, CAI, Catback, n2o. All these bolt-ons cost a ton and leave you feeling empty. I think the five listed are the best bang for the buck, imo. Well, catbck more for sound.
