I've narrowed down my possible new cars...
Please give me any comments on this...
As I've mentioned before, I'm seriously contemplating on selling my beloved Stang and get a more fuel efficient, insurance saving, looking ahead into the future car.
I've done a lot of research as of late dealing with the amount of money I'll be saving per month with gas, insurance, etc.
IF I sell my car I will without a doubt by a new car therefore I can customize it with the options I want and get a nice warranty. There's many reasons why I want to get a new car and sell my stang... there's jsut as many reasons why I want to keep it. But for my age, where I'm at in my life, and where I'll be in the next 3-4 years (family) I think this may be the best decsion for me.
SOoooooo I've narrowed it down to a few cars I like. Anyone had any experience with any?? Prices are after my selected options.
1.) Scion TC - $20,200
Pros: Love the look of it, 2 sun/moon roofs plus large rear hatch. Large rear seat for being a coupe. Lot's of personalization options.
Cons: Only a single disc CD player, somewhat basic interior design but is modernized
23/30mpg
2.) Mazda3 S Touring: $20,400
Pros Great size, LOVE the styling of them. Great interior, very adjustable seats/steering wheel. 6 CD player with moonroof.
CONS 4-door (prefer coupe)
24/31mpg
3.) Mitsubishi Eclipse GS: $22,500
PROS Smooth exterior, futuristic design, good amount of room.
CONS Seems abnormally large for a coupe, from the cockpit, the base of the front window is a good 4 feet away. Little out of price range.
23/29mpg
4.) Honda Civic $19,000
Pros Best MPG
Cons It's a Civic, lol. Not my taste.
30/40mpg
I've sat in them all and talk to a sales person. I've not test drove any yet, which will be a huge factor obvioulsy. As of now, I'm torn between the Mazda3 and Scion TC. If the Mazda3 was a 2 door, I think I would without a doubt get the Mazda, but I'm not sure.
As far as insurance, my insurance pretty much goes down about 10 bux a If I switched to the mazda or scion. Stays the same with the Eclipse. I'm sure once the 07 models are in full swing, my rates will go down another 10-20 dollars.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks for reading this fellah's!

I should also mention that after selling my stang, re-selling some aftermarket parts I should have close to or above 15K for a down payment. There fore I'm looking at about another 5-7K to pay off for a new car.

a SCION?! a MAZADA?! A HONDA?!
......................listen man, i want you to do something...just go with me..
sit back in your chair...relax...close your eyes.....now imagine yourself...a red blooded american MAN.....driving some japenese POS girl car...which sole purpose over here anyway is to bring revenue into a country that isn't even your own. then imagine your old mustang pulling up next to you at a street light jamming tunes, car looks badass (still) and he's havin the time of his life, livin it up...while you're driving a **** honda. dude..you dont want that
buy a beater and some spray. drive the beater around, get good gas milage...while working on your own car...installing spray and whatever else. then cruise, and race your badass mustang...you'll appreciate it alot more too after driving the beater around..
what is with people selling latley?! rediculous! you people disgrace me. if this were a war I wouldnt want you on my 6 covering me because it wouldnt be benneficial to yourself! you can affored it man...you just dont want to
but whatever ..enjoy your japanese pile...and don't try to think about your mustang too much...

hate to tell ya, badfish, but stangs aren't the ultimate car...
i vote the TC or civic
eclipse = ugly
mazda 3=sedan?
both the TC and civic or on my list to look at when it comes time for a new car...if i can afford that nice, of course

I agree with Badfish on most of what he said. Why not just buy a cheap *** beater? Up to you though, but everyone misses their Mustang when it's gone. Mustangs might not be the ultimate car, but look at the alternatives he listed lol A Scion?
Your decision man, just don't make a rash one that you'll regret.

Im also going to have to agree with badfish...You will probably regret it if you sell the stang and why would you buy a new honda..just buy like a 96 or something, those damn things run forever and cost you 3 times less what you will pay for a new one

Since you talked about starting a family how is another coupe going to help you?? you still will be out of leg room, and should just keep the stang; which you should do anyways!!! If you really want to get a car that will help you with a family, then i would say the Mazda since 4 doors are way better family cars then having to jam everyone into a little sport coupe. just my opinoin, so whateva.

ok this is what i think. i was getting ready to sell my stang and get another s2000. but when i was sittin in the s2000 and i started it up and i heard the sound coming from the exhaust, i was like is that it! now im a big honda fan, just cuz they are basically "bulletproof". but i could never see myself tradein in my stang for anything less then a cobra, you cant beat the mustang sound. i also drive a 93 honda civic hatchback. its an awesome DD. its got a 5 speed, and i get 40+mpg in the city. you could pick one up for like 2 grand.

But imo here is what I would go for.
1. Mazda 3
2. Civic
3. Scion TC
4. Eclipse
I have a Mazda 6 and I love it, its not as sporty as the 3, but I have the same 2.3 engine and its got plenty of pep for a DD.
Or you could wait it out and get the Mazdaspeed 3, 2800lbs or so and 250hp turbo 4 would give a pre 05 Stock Mustang GT a run for its money.

about a month ago I was thinking about selling my stang and going back to something like a SN95 V6 like I use to have. Something that I didn't owe any money for, would only spend $50 a month in insurance, still got decent gas mileage, and would be something I wouldn't try to mod. At that point I was kinda drifting from drag racing and not really caring about all that good stuff. So I thought about it for awhile and then I realized that EVERYTIME someone talked about mustangs or racing I'd regret selling my car. Or if I saw it on the road I wouldn't be able to handle it lol. So I'm here, still spending money and still racing

well.... this wasn't exactly the responses I was hoping for. hahaha
I know I would get the truth from you guys and nothing less... which is greatly appreciated.
If I sold my stang, I would get a new car, not a used. I want to be able to customize it and choose all the options that I want.
In all honesty... I know I will miss my stang, but my car isn't my life. My future, school, family and such is more important to me.
In about 5-6 years, when I'm settled down, I will 100% buy another mustang as my fun/weekend car. And this car that I'll get now will still be my DD and family car. That is why I'm so keen on it being good MPG/warranty/reliability.
The Mazda had a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty. I'm leaning toward the Mazda 3 S Touring right now.
Even though the Scion TC was a coupe, it had a great deal amount of room in the backseat. But I am liking the Mazda for ease purposes with the back seat.
And whoever said the Focus is like the Mazda 3, where in the heck did that comparison come from?
So other than this, do I have any support with this decision or is selling my car really that dumb?????

If i where you look into the new Jetta TDI. I just got one for my wife and that thing is awesome. It gets 37/41 mpg and got decent leg room, good pickup for a 4 cylinder it is turbo'd though. So after the warranty is up you can give it a few more ponies. It's a diesel so it will last you a long a$$ time. The sticker on ours was $24,580 and it has moonroof, leather, satellite radio, 6 disk changer descent 16 inch rims but you could upgrade to the 17's for another grand. I traded my expedition that i really loved for it but the gas mileage killed me in the X so i had to get rid of it. Plus the trunk is huge man. I would definitely look into a Jetta.

But think about it... don't jump on it... who knows... by the end of the summer ya may decide that you ain't never gonna part with it...
I often here my pops talk about all the cars he owned... all hot rods... they were a dime a dozen... and he regrets parting with all of em... Always hear him saying, "damn, wish i still had that car"
so think about it...
But if it has to happen... I'd go with the mazda... ford platform, they make some decent stuff

And you will not see as much of a difference in gas as you think, you might save 10 bucks a week, 10 bucks a week Big fricken deal. Thats a small price to pay for something you actually like.
Lets be honest you love your car and the onyl reason you want to sell the car is because you think that something in the future might go wrong with it, so you say to yourself or try to convince yourself that you need to get rid of it because its taking away your money. lets face it you want a new car, and the only thing that is holding you back is the thought of getting rid of your mustang and having to drive a foreign car. My advice is get a new mustang GT. you will be happy.
