Civics...LOL

Civics...LOL
Well I got my Mustang like a week ago, first car, only v6 automatic and i kno thats not a true stang but for now its good...heres my first experience...lol
Well...i kinda raced some people the other day...and won i believe...
Near a walmart where it started, theres like a 3way stop at the exit and they were at a diff stop sign and i was at another. I waited of course for them to go since they were first to stop. I got impatient and just sped around the corner, they speeded after me to the stop sign about 50feet up.
We get to the stop sign, i begin to laugh and i turn the stop sign very fast again. They do the same ( So you guys kno...it was 3 dudes in a beat up Civic that was 3 different colors and had a nasty sounding muffler, this is why it was funny). We get to the stop light and we both turn. I accidently...*cough*...squeeled my tires and thats how it really began.
They did the same, they pull out from behind me and start speeding up...I do the same... After about 2 seconds I decided to just go for it and speed up, few seconds later I was so far in front it wasn't even funny.
I KNO THIS ISN'T A GREAT STORY BUT FOR BEING MY FIRST LIL RACE IT WAS FUNNY TOO BURN SOMEONE WITH A STOCK V6 AUTOMATIC MUSTANG (And I kno it was only a civic, but funny as HELL)
if the story is lame, then sry, but still FUNNY TO ME...lol

You think so?
I think the other person would be embarassed cause of the reputation automatics have of being so slow. Just cause you have an auto doesent mean you dont know how to drive, driving aint just knowing when to shift, its also knowing how close you can take it to the edge without losing control. Having an auto doesent mean you cannot drive stick either. Anyone who would assume that is pretty stupid.
EIther way, ive got an Auto. Last 8 cards have been manuals. Tell ya what, I was'nt too stoked on it bein an auto at first, but after driving for a while and seeing what a bitchin stock trasmission it has, im not too bothered by it at all. <laugh>
As for a V6 being a true mustang?
Come on! Give me a break!
OF COURSE IT IS. <grin>
A Stang is a Stang buddy. V6, Gt, Cobra, Saleen, whatever. It is a kickback to the old days of muscle cars. Anyone who tells you that yer V6 aint a real mustang has no freakin idea what they are talkin bout. I'll be just as quick to compliment a well cared for V6 as a Cobra. Its all about the attitude.
I got into it the other night with an RX7 with the biggest exhaust setup ive ever seen. In fact, the muffler and tailpipe dwarfed the Rx-7.
I won. Once we got held at a light he told me he thought it was a V6 so he wanted to race, then as i was passing him he was all "Oh Crap! Mach1 Mach1"
I told him it was just a GT... he seemed a bit confused.
Its odd how some of the rice-buner crowd knows so little about american cars.

When it comes to the occasional street race though, i would disagree. Winning is winning. They can sit and clown all they want about it being an auto, but that doesent change the fact it whipped thier ***. :evil1:

no offense, and dont want this to turn into a smak talk column. But if you think it is how close you can take it to the edge without losing control is just plain not it. When one goes to a track, there is no oh my gosh im gunna peak my car and bring it to the edge, it is about timing, nowing when to shift (manuals) or how to set up my car to shift at the best points (automatics), what to put in my car to make it better, how much throttle to use on take of to keep tire spin to a min, and many other aspects, but bringing your car to the point of almost losing control is not it. Just my peace of words, dont take offense to it. :kermit: :color:

No offence taken,
i guess i should have been a little bit more clear.
If yer drag racing or track racing on a big oval that is one thing, but if yer gettin into a race of cat and mouse through curved streets or know of a good closed circuit course, knowing when to shift for accelleration aint gonna do you much good if you dont know how to handle the turns (that is what i meant about taking it to the edge and not losing control)
The benefit of the small added acceleration capability will help you out in the straight runs, but yer gonna lose yer advantage on the curves.
If you can do both then yer in great shape. Maybe in drag racing the shift points and timing are the most important, but throw in some turns and it turns into a whole other game. No pun intended.
Give me a twisty mountain road over a straight run anyday. But thats just my personal preferance.
Granted, most street races are from one light to the next, and drag racing isnt exactly known for its track complexity.
I guess it just depends on what yer into. I guess i forgot to think most people here are just into drag racing, not track or mountain racing.
And no, im not into track racing, never done it, but ive always had a passion for hauling *** through the twisty mountain roads as fast as i can.

Beating somone in a race is just as satisfactory either way for me at least. SO in that aspect Auto Vs Manual, it makes no diff to me.
Cruising around is certainly more fun with manual

But if you dont know how to take the turn, you might find yerself flying off the side of the mountain, and taking the turn is more of figuring speed, conditions, and *****, not so much shifting manually.
Thats where im getting at when i say that shift skills are not all there is to driving. You can take the best drag racer in the planet, doesent mean he will be able to compete worth **** in the pikes peak hill climb. He might be the first to get to the bottom, but it doesent mean he won! <LAUGH>
I guess my previous statement about taking it to the edge was in the wrong forums, this place is dominatly drag racers and such.
And i aint saying there is anything wrong with drag racing. it definatly takes skill. Just not the type of skills for hauling through windy mountain passes with certain death down the slope.

So, Shifting is everything?
You can take any drag racer and have him pull a hairpin turn at 75 miles an hour cause he knows how to shift?
Are you really saying that shifting skills are all you need to pull such a feat? Were not talking simply slowing down and taking the turn quickly, were talking ***** to the wall sliding around then pulling yerself out, or hitting a corner so hard that you are a hairline from losing grip and slamming into a guard rail and maintaining that.
Yes, you can do it just as well in a manual.
Im not arguing manual vs auto, im just saying that there is more to driving than knowing when to shift. In the example above, knowing when to shift aint gonna help you out, you need to read the vehical and feel it, and take it to the edge. And there is a little bit more involved in that than simple downshifting and hitting the brakes.
Havent you ever played Grand Turismo? There is a good example, you can outdrive a faster vehical by knowing how to out-handle it. Not in drag racing , no, , but in any other type of racing, yes.
thats all im saying.
yeah, manual kicks ***, my next stang will be manual. Im not saying either is better. But shifting is not all there is to driving.

Looks like i hit a nerve!
Not sure why yer getting so angry there.
None of that was even shot at you. I never once said you cant drive, nor did i say i could outdrive you. Hell, i dont even know you guy.
All im saying is that knowing when to shift aint everything. Maybe in drag racing it is, but if you have a couple good turns it really makes things different. On a course with curves a slower vehical can beat a faster vehical if they know what they are doing and the faster vechical doesent. It levels the playing ground a little bit more.
Is shifting important?
Yes. It is DAMN important in ANY race. It doesent matter what race it is, if you have a manual and cannot shift worth crap yer gonna lose. (unless the other person sucks even worse ROFL)
But you cannot seriously say that shifting is the only aspect of racing.
Im not arguing the virtues of Manual vs. Auto. We both have Auto, we both preffer Manual. Nuff Said.
What i AM saying is that shifting aint everything. I really dont see why that makes you so angry.
Its like saying that eggs are all you need to bake a cake.
Not sure why yer getting so heated up,
but rully rully I hoep yu driv betur than yu spel.
