Rockingham...HERE I COME!!

June 18th, I will be in my first Road Course event. http://www.mcmmotorsports.com/smilies/woot.gif
I will be in the HPDE (High Performance Driving Event) taking place at the new road course at the legendary NASCAR oval.
They accepted my previous racing experience and they are allowing me to move into the HPDE 3 class. This means I can get my competition license in like 6 months instead of almost a year or more.
I will be driving the '04 GT, not the new '88 which is still under construction.

WOO HOO!!! Congrats Mike. I want to track the GT someday. How does that whole thing work. Like, is there a beginner class that any joe schmoe can come participate in?

yeah find your local mustang club or contact the mca (mustang club of america). the palm beach mustang club has open track events all the time. i just sign up, pay the money and drive up to wherever it is to participate. a lot of great guys and every one is there to help you learn. you can pay to have an instructor with you which is definitely a great idea if you're a beginner. i swear you wont want to sell your car anymore once you do it a couple times... you'll want bigger brakes, better handling suspension and more time to go to events. you dont need a blower to get good times on that kind of course, its more about driver skill.

and its so much fun!

edit: p.s. congradulations mike! have fun!

Thanks guys, I can't wait. Matt, you can do what floppy suggests OR, you can start doing HPDE events. They are around $300 a clip, but they look like a blast. I will let you know when I get back how I liked it. I will probably be all nervous and what not cause it is the Blue car and not the white one. They would start you out in HPDE 1 and put an instructor with you in your car.

wow sounds like fun, i just went to my first autox event, which i know is no road course, but all i can say is that is was such a blast and that it is not all based on power, majority if not all is driver skill, good luck:beerchug:

Yeah, the Autocross was the first step in my new venture. Next is to get my comp license while I continue to build Casper. (Just thought that name up too since everyone thought there was a ghost in there) :shifty:

There wont be any cars around me like this, but you get the idea of the layout.

Wow man, that looks like an absolute blast. Maybe I should build my 83 GT for something like that instead of a drag car.

WHOA NELLY! Dang, that gets my blood moving. Is it the same format or 1 car at a time? I would feel real uneasy about putting my DD on the track with others. Rubbing is racing you know. :punk:

No, it shouldn't be like the video. That was a Spec Miata RACE. I am pretty sure I will be on the track under more, shall I say, relaxed conditions. Trust me, I am sooo tempted to go rent a car for this trip. :devil2:

YOU CAN COUNT ON IT!!!
If I wasn't leaving so early, or if it was a two day deal, I would ask if you want to come with me.
I have 3 more HPDE events left to do this year.

phatpony 06-03-2006 05:41 PM
