Default Drove a stick for my first time last night = wasnt pretty

To sum it up, THAT WAS THE HARDEST THING EVER!!!! The car I drove happened to be my friend's KB'ed 03 Cobra. Not exactly the easiest car to learn to drive a stick. Needless to say, I got PWNED!!! :surrender

Talk about an unforgiving clutch. Man, that thing is either on or off. And since I'm getting a Spec Stage 3 put in mine, I know mine will be just as tricky.

I have a little more than 2 weeks to get the hang of it before the trans go in my car. Pray for me, guys. :helpsmili

3 people had learned on my stock clutch and my car had 92K on it. Didn't slip at all but then she got destroyed...

I have a feeling my stang wont be daily driven for long. It'll probably sit on the road in front of my house and collect dust....since I most likely won't be able to get it on the driveway!

Nah, dont say that. Everyone starts somewhere, and despite what some tell you, its never easy. Just takes time and experience.

I learned on my 95 v6 how to drive a stick.. several thousand miles later I blew it up lol.. it did have about 120k on the stock clutch though. You'll get the hang of it.. don't worry. Once you drive it enough it becomes second nature. When i get in an automatic car i sit there for about 5 minutes like WTF???? trying to figure out what to do.. and then i keep trying to press a imaginary clutch in and shift

The hardest part is also the take-off. Just find a deserted road with a small hill and put your car so it's facing up hill. Practicing taking off up hill and try not to move back at all. That is the only thing you really need to worry about because there are always those ******** who pull right up on your *** while sitting on a hill at a stop light. Once you get that down, you are ready to roll.

I kind of developed a trick for those people. I'll put in reverse and let the clutch out a bit while still on the break so the light turns on. That will back them off pretty quickly. Sometimes I can see that they are about to do it so I let my car scoot back a bit and I keep on bouncing up and down the hill a bit. Bad for the clutch but it's funny to watch them in your rear view as they give you "what the hell are you doing?" look.

Or you could always rev like ****, stick your head out the window and tell them to get the hell off your ***.

Yeah Laser you'll get the hang of it... and speaking of learning on a POS... I think it is better to learn on something that is at a level of which he will be driving.. which is kinda weird cause I learned to Drive a stick in a 98' Viper

lol.. that reminds me of this trick my brother does in his jetta while driving down the highway.. if someone gets on his *** he starts washing his windows hard core with the windshield wiper fluid.. and it just flies everywhere and gets alllll over the car behind him. about 5 seconds later they back off and start turning on their windshield wipers.

I actually chose to practice on the Cobra because it has the same T56 trans and MGW shifter my car will have installed. I figured I was getting a preview of my "new" car to come, only this one was making over 200 more hp. One bad habit I've devloped from my auto is constantly using the dead pedal. I keep wanting to put my foot on the dead pedal instead of the clutch.

I personally think it's much easier to learn a stick if you're never driven an auto. But if you drive an auto only for over 12 years like me, then it's hard to make the transition to manual because the auto habits keep resurfacing unexpectedly.

haha wow learning on a KB cobra...couldnt be any harder

but then again I learned on TWebb023's mustang GT (after i bought my auto POS...yes if i learned b4 i got a car i would have a stick not auto) and it was not the easiest thing to learn on either...his clutch is stiff

then i got in a friends 04 six stick and when i pushed the clutch in...I was like dude u have no clutch...cause they are so light on the sixers

GOOD LUCK...and i say practice on a stock GT...not an upgraded COBRA...INSANE!!

I think driving my stick is like second nature b/c it was the car i learned to drive on. But at first i was like WTF. It just takes time to get used to.

When I went to buy a new Mustang GT... the salemman told me to get a stick..not an auto.. I then told him that I didnt know how to drive a stick. I asked him why I should get a manual rather than an auto...he told me that if your gonna get a muscle car..the stick would be more fun and the auto would be more boring. I said ok...he then took me to a parking lot and showed me how to drive it. I got a hang of it after like 25 minutes without stalling. now im happy i agreed to do that cause I couldnt imagine dring an auto stang...128 Ford Rocks!!!!

yeah i've drivin a 03 cobra and those clutches are very heavy.....VERY!!!!! I learned on my 96 v6 and that was a heavy clutch too but once you can drive a clutch that's stiff....you can pretty much drive any car around. Once you get it, it's cake.
