Have to say, Im impressed. Dont know how you guys feel about guns, but its about damn time the theif got what was coming to him.

 

That is crazy. I think the shooter should rot in jail! I can not belive someone can kill someone in 2006 just for stealing something. That person's life was not in danger nor was his life threatened in any way. The thief was in the wrong, but you don't deserve to die for stealing a car. I see no reason why the owner could not hav just called the cops, or held the gun on the car until the cops showed up. You know, the shooter might not go to jail because of some lame-*** law that man created, but he will get his just reward someday. Give it some time, and if that guy is any type of decent person, guilt is gonna kill him.

Imagine what he can say "Hey, I killed a guy for steeling my car. I am soo cool".

That guy might have had a wife and kids. Perhaps a dying son who needed medication. Mostly likely not, but you don't know that when you put a bullit in his back.

Sorry Matt, you and I generally see eye to eye on things and I am the first one to admit that if someone where to charge in my house with my family home, the guy is going down. But, if someone wants to steal my car, I ain't gonna shoot you.

 

I understand what you are saying, but I dont think the guy died. My thing is that in todays society, theives are no long the bad guy. Its ridiculous. Were I in the same situation, Id have called the cops first, and maybe fired a warning shot. I dont know if that guy is going to break into my car, and then come to my front door. Im sorry, but if you walk onto my property, and start stealing it, you are bought and paid for. We can still be friends though right Blake?

All I am saying isthat is your life is threatened, that is one thing. But no one deserve to die for stealing. i do not think that deadly force is appropriate to stop a thief who is only taking an object. Had it been a car jacking, that is different. What if that thief was your brother, or best friend and just did someting really stupid as a dare? Would they deserve to be shot at? Of course not. What if the thief had some sort of legitatemate claim to the car such a a repo man. We can't simply pump rounds at someone for merely being on your property.

Man, I am no liberal and I believe int he right to have a firearm and being able to use it. I believe in hunting too. But these things require responsibility. The gun owner does nto have the right to be the judge and jury and convivt someone to death for stealing.

Good point, and the repo man think is what would make me call out and tell him to get on the ground. He would definately be riding in the back of the cop car though.

 

I think I agree with Blake on this one. I don't have any desire to shoot anyone even if they tried to steal my car, but they might get a wack from my police baton.

 

I have no sympathy for the guy who got shot trying to steal the guys vehicle. You shouldnt be stealing 20,000 from somebody and get a slap across the hand when you get caught. He did the right thing by shooting. The guy has a family to protect and going out there and asking the guy politely to stop stealing my car probably isnt going to work. Personally I would of fired a warning shot but like I said, I have ZERO sympathy for the guy who got shot. Theres a guy here who almost got robbed in front of his house by 4 people after he was getting out of his car at night after working. He killed one, and shot the other in the face and the other 2 got away. Its a big controversy...

Anyways, why would you steal someones crap? Go out and get a ****in job and work for it like everyone else has to. He got what he deserved by robbing someone.

 

i read more into the thread, turns out the guy stealing the car turned to reach for something, maybe a gun? also, they found his car down the road with his id and a gun in the car...

 

I can honestly tell you from a first person's point of view that I would have done the same thing as this guy. (not brag about it on the internet, but still the same). Here's what happened to me.

About 3 years ago I had a tahoe with 3 TV's, one in each headrest and one in a custom built dash I had built (built 1 week before it was broken into, damn $500 at that). Well one night at about 4:30 in the morning my dogs were going nuts barking (full blooded german sheppard, and a lab mix). They barked all the time so I didn't think anything of it. well at 5:30 I got up to go to work and went out to warm up my tahoe. I noticed that the interior light was on and upon closer view my TVs were missing in my headrest. So, I started to get ill, then I got to the truck and noticed the back passenger door was open (it was still dark that early). SO I went around the truck and noticed that glass was shattered, and all 3 TV's were gone, the new dash I had built was shattered and the DVD player from under the back seat was gone. At this time I am livid! I run in the house gram my 9mm and ran back outside (knowing these guys were no where around but the adrenaline was pumping). Walked around the neighborhood with gun in hand and came home and called the cops. It took them 45 minutes to get to my house (I live 10 minutes from the station) and filled out the report. Well there was a perfect hand print on the door that was broken into so I had the guys come out and print my car. (I knew it was ther perps. prints because I washed my tahoe the day before).

And for the next 3 weeks I called the station and asked if they got any hits on the prints. Every time I called they said "we are waiting on them to come back from the lab". To this day there has been no calls or anything saying that my stuff was recovered or anything. And, to top things off, 3 of my neighbors at 3 different times in the night saw this truck creeping in front of my house (old 62ish lowered white chevy pickup) I told the cops about this car and they said they would look into it. Not a common truck and still no hits.

SO, my point is this. The guy that shot the perp atleast got the person caught who tried to steal his ****. AS for me, I had to turn it in on my insurance and let my rates go up while someone has my stuff (however they can't use the TV's b/c the powersupply was in the coax cable that they didn't steal). IF I would have went outside when my tahoe was being broken into I probably would have done the same thing, I wouldn't shoot first and ask second, but I would fire a warning shot and if they made any move towards me I would have shot them. Because you gotta look at it this way, they BROKE into your car, obviously they have some sort of weapon to BREAK into it! So, they are armed! And seeing you're baby being damaged you have no idea how out of your head mad you are!!!!!

Exactly!!! The guy who got shot prob didn't deserve to die but deserved to get shot. I don't care what your stealing, if the person behind the gun thinks you deserve it than you get what's comming to you. Like i said he doesn't deserve to die (that's only if he did) but if you didn't shoot him he would have ran away and probably came back a second time...this time more armed. Chances are if he did get caught then he would have just gotten off with a warning maybe a weekend in jail or probation. I personally would have taken out a knee cap. I can bet you that he won't try to jack someones car again.

HE WENT TO THE HOSPITAL. if he died, they woulda taken him to the MORGUE (sp?). yeah, he said he wasnt sure if the guy died or not, but if the guy died, the cops WOULD arrest him, as he killed a guy. hed go to court on either manslaughter or 2nd degree murder or something similar. trust me, hed know if he killed the guy.

BTW, since I have no life (I am married, have two kids, I am a sales manager and am responsible for the entire NE of the US, run a non-profit organization, working on another Masters Degree, own two houses, run my mother's finances since my Dad died, and just completed a two-month run at a dinner theater as one of the leads) I enjoy this site as a way to cut-loose and talk about Mustangs. Whenever we digress, this site always seems to take a turn for the not so good.

If you can avoid the insults, then stay. If not, then go. Either way, the site wins.
