today i learned how to drive a manual trany.
i was suprised how hard it was to start driving....
once i got rolling it was easy but starting was hard....
i was in my grandparents car they tow behind ther motor home...a susuki....
the first shift is at 7 mph....
anyway it was fun....good news is the car still runs and after an hour of practice i was shiftin smooth!!!!

 

just keep practicing. Get on some hills and do some starts. Once you get that down its real easy, you wont even have to think about it. Have fun!

I only drove a manual once, and that was my friend's Cavalier.. but only 1st and 2nd... at least I didn't stall mine first time =)

 

Yeah One day i was bored and my cousins 98 mustang manual was sitting in the garage (cousin was away in navy) so i decided to teach myself how to drive stick, ha is was so fun i didn't stall it at all-ended up driving that car for a year- the hardest part is definately first gear and when you are on a hill but if you have to you can use your parking break on a hill

When first learning a good thing to remember is let off the clutch nice and easy. If you feather it you dont have to give the car any gas you can start it on its own.

 

I drive a 4 banger every day and on my whole drive to school i get it started with just letting off the clutch. So that is a somewhat untrue statement.

I learned when i was 13 on a f450 superduty dump truck.

 

first time i learned was on a hill....that sucked becuase my dad wouldn't let me off the hill untill i got up it smoothly. It worked though!!! Def take it to a hill and try it out.

 

whoa i didn't notice it but you were born in 1991?!?!?!?! Wow i was already i school by then. CRAZY!!!

 

I had about mabye 20 minutes of actually driving manual tranny cars before I got my GT which is stick. So, yea I pretty much learned on this.

 

well in the car i was in the gas pedal was REALLY SENSITIVE
i couldnt rev it consantly..
plus it didnt have a tach...just a shift light!!!!

Why were on the subject of manual how long has anyone went on a stock clutch?

Um...that makes it easier there big guy... with a higher rev and longer clutch you can stop on a hill... with a short clutch you are more likely to pop the clutch too fast... I learned how to control the throttle first, then work with teh clutch...

If you master the throttle the clutch will have to work...

 

The two cars i've really driven driven are mycar and my friends WRX, he had a speed clutch and short throw and it was much harder to drive then mine...

 

I learnt how to drive a stick in a 4 banger, and then I test drove a stock gt and found it alot esier to drive. When I got my car It took me a little while to get use to it, of course it had 3.73's when I got it. I guess I was'nt use to how responsive it was to the throttle.

 

Ehhh idk I can drive all manuals with easy...I got a long clutch and low rev and it's hard for most people that drive my car to keep it on a hill... but for me it's easy...

THat being said when I drove my friends car wit the short clutch it seemed harder, but i still didn't rev it that much...

 

Did your cousin know you were using his stang?

 

i learned on a 4 cyl. and it is much easier to start a more torque manual. if you stall out a gt or any muscle car, theres something wrong
