Default Bugatti Veyron 16.4

Wow, I read about this in Motor Trend Magazine.

DOHC 64-valve, W16 engine, 8.0L, (488CI) 1001HP, 922Tq

This is all off my memory:

Requires 2 keys to go "top speed"
Can hit 250+MPH
Just a deposit is 300,000 dollars!!
300 cars being built in 2006, half them going to U.S.
Mid engine AWD
4 turbochargers
7 speed auto-manual transmission
0-62mph in 2.5secs
0-100 in 6.0s
0-150 in 11.0s
0-200 in 22.0s
0-250 in less than a minute!!!
EPA city driving 7.0mpg
Under full throttle in 7th?? gear it gets less than 3MPG!
Rear spolier retracts up and down acting as an air brake
Brake from 252MPH to standstill in less than 10 secs. (Bugatti Claims)
1/4 mile = 10.8 secs @ 140mph
JUST the car audio package is over 30,000 dollars
There is a gauge in the cockpit to measure how much HP you're at!

Well it was a brand new article in Motor Trend so it wasn't technically old news, more of an update

The hp meter in it is prety cool, but it really doesnt have to be functional. It can just be based on the car's rpm and it'd display a certain hp, it's not like a dyno or anything

The engine puts out 2k HP, but because of cooling and drivetrain loss the @ the ground HP amount is only 1001HP.

The US versions come detuned with only 987AWHP.

Bugatti wont even be breaking even in making these. The tires in the back are insanely large, like 1.5' wide or something like that, on a 22" rim.

I've been researching this car for a while now, its sooo nice. If i had 1.5 mil to drop it would be on one of these.

Yea it only has like 987 HP, but thats where you supposedly use the second key to max out the power.

Neg.

The european versions will have 1001HP max from factory and a better tune.

The US versions will only top out at 987HP, even with the second key, as they are required to be detuned for some reason in order to sell here.

Popular Science had a kickass write up on it in either the December '05 or Jan '06 issues. The US version is detuned for emissions, of course. The car has something like 20 heat exchangers. The HP meter uses the fuel and air metering to determine how much power is being derived from the combustion happening at that moment. Even without the second key I think the car will still do 180ish. Hell, keep the second key and I'll be happy with 180, but no one on the street is gonna beat me to it.
