Thanks for starting a thread with this question.

So it seems like everyone pretty much uses the factory suggested 5w20. This is what I use as well, but I have been told to use a heavier weight oil. I also read that 5w20 gives you about a 1% to 2% increase in Mpg, but decreases the life of your engine by up to 30%, when compared to a heavier oil such as 5 or 10w30. What do you guys think about this.

first i've heard of it so my input wouldn't matter lol but i think that 30% seems pretty damn high

I've put mobil 1 5w30 in the past 2 times I've changed it. I have been doing about 5k between each change with it. Some people go more, some people go less. It's depends on the driving I've been doing and how the weather has been.

GET RID OF THE FRAM. There have been numerous tests that show they are some of the WORST. I use a regular 820S motorcraft filter.

I have heard both good and bad, and the bad mostly stemd from older models... Things like improperly molded plastic and carboard... the current models hold an industry leading standard of 96% single pass efficiency... not that i am not open to use other oil filters (they are cheap anyhow)

I've used the Mobil 1 extended life filters for 6 years on every vehicle I've owned and never a problem yet.
