A friend has a 2000-2003 Cobra Mustang (not sure what year). All I know is it has a 5 speed manual and a 4 valve V8. Could someone fill me in (on each year if they are different) on what size the engine is, if they are supposed to be supercharged, and how many horsepower they make? Thanks!

Also if you could post pictures of under the hood of a stock 2000-2003 Cobra I'm not sure exactly what the supercharger looks like, I'm just getting started in the car world.

And the back bumper just says "Mustang" isn't it supposed to say "Cobra"? That's why I'm wondering if maybe it's a GT with a bunch of cobra symbols on it.

 

sounds like ur buddy has a 99 cobra....in 2001 they put the cobra on .....the 99 and 01 cobras had a n/a 4.6l 4v engine pushing 320 hp..but in 99 they had trouble w/ the horsepower cause of the intake...

in 2000 they took the cobra off production to fix that...in the meantime....they released a limited production Cobra R w/ a N/A 5.4L engine....6 speed....only 300 were made w/ a hefty price of 50,000 or more.....

no cobras were released in the US in 2002...they were converted to Right hand side drive and shipped to Australia or somewhere

03/04 cobras were s/c...pushing 390hp/390tq....also switch to a 6 speed...those are the most sought after stang in 99-04.......

google it....

 

99-01 Cobra is what he has most likely. 281ci 4.6L VA 32Valve DOHC. 320HP (i believe) in the engine.
There was no Cobra in 2002
03-04 Cobra comes supercharged and built forged internals. Eaton M90 is the supercharger. 390HP in the engine. Same size engine as the 99-01 Cobra.

These engines are the same as the GT from 99-04 but GT's are 16valve SOHC. I just skimmed the surface

So the 1999 Cobras had the bigger side scoop like the 2000-2004 V6's and GT's? Not the little one like the pre 2000's or was 99 the first year of that?

Also seeing the picture of under the hood that's what it looks like n/a 4v V8.

So the 1999 Cobra says Mustang on the back and the front grill emblem is a pony not a cobra? If so then this must be a 1999. Thanks for the help guys.

For some reason, you all haven't mentioned the 2001 cobra...which fixed all the problems the 99 had. Its got 320 something hp, 5 spd, 4v's, yadda yadda. everything the 99 had except the hp problem

 

i didnt specifically mention it but i said that they took the cobras outta production in 2000 to fix the 99's problems

 

they did mention the 2001 cobra but the 2001 says cobra on the back bumper, the 99 says mustang.

That says 99 Cobra and it has the same side scoop as the 00-04's V6 and GT

00: cobra r model. special edition. thin scoop, side exhaust, 'mustang' on bumper, 6 spd, NA

01: 'Cobra' on bumper, thin scoops, fixed hp, 5 spd, NA

02: none made for usa

03-04: thick side scoops, 390 hp, 'cobra' on bumper, S/C'ed, different hood and bumper from 99-01 styles, also added 6 spd

I'm confused because u guys say the 99 has a small side scoop but if you look at that picture it says it's a 99 Cobra and it has the big side scoop.

 

thats not the big side scoop. even if it were the big one they are interchangeable. anyone could buy any kind of side scoop they want and put it on any mustang as long as the scoop was made for that year mustang.

 

That Cobra R Wing is so rice....I know it has a purpose, but geeesh
